I've seen it before somewhere.

Excellent call Sinco...yes its the Polish ITS-8W motor glider which first flew in 1938

And I've just come on line as well....no point in asking for another clue then!

The shape of the rear and tail of the aircraft is bugging me....I'm sure I've seen this somewhere quite recently...

Not for the US Navy, David. I believe only ten were built, as trainers - but I'll double check!

It was a trainer development of a reconnaisance bomber which completed a significant event in the country's aviation history. Built in the late 1920s/early 1930s.

I think you're right Ton,

I just found a photograph (not RR's) and it just calls it the "Azcarate School" a development of the OE-1 warplane.

Well, you are right Ton!!!! It is the Azcarate E (Escuela = School)

As SincoTC says, it was developed from the OE-1. Incidentally the OE-1 was used to set up an endurance flight around Mexico in September 1928.
