I keep looking at Hopfner, but cannot see anything that matches. Will take a break and check through some books....

"I keep looking at Hopfner, but cannot see anything that matches."

That's because it isn't a Hopfner. .............

I do believe it is Igo Etrich's "Taube" Light Plane of 1930 with a Salmson 40hp radial engine, although the photos on Flight Archives show a different shape tailplane, can't find any drawings yet.

1930 | 0127 | Flight Archive

I'm going to abandon the search for LM's drawings as it's time I went home! I too was put off the scent by that "fantail" when I was searching for Taube derived designs during a work break earier this evening, I figured that wing shape just had to be related, but the text in that article gives me hope that there were possible variations on the tailplane design. Keep looking for the drawings or more info mustpost, as I'm not too sure it's solved yet!

If it is decided in my favour, then I'm afraid it's another Open House please David. I hope to get my home broadband sorted out in a month or so, and will then be able to post something and probably set a new record for the shortest ever Challenge!!

Well done sir! I'm sure you are on the right track, that's the one I was trying to remember albeit with some detail differences.

Mind you the judge's decision is final...

Found a very fuzzy photo of the 1930's Taube and discounted it due to the tail....but now I look at the Flight article I guess it is indeed the Taube or at least a modified version?

Would this have anything to do with the Austrian Lloyd Aircraft Company? They also had used a similar wing shape.

OK guys.

I posted at 1229 yesterday Prune clock time, so I must reveal soon.

In the meantime:

Yes it was Austrian
Yes it was an Etrich
Its' name is synonomous with a certain type of car

Go.....

S'land, I was looking at Lloyd as well.

So I assume from whats been said that this is an Etrich aircraft but its not the 1930 Taube. From the similarity of the 2 aircraft I am guessing its an updated version which means its probably an early 1930's design. Was it actually built or did it just remain on Mr Etrich's drawing board. Frustrating!!

Thanks LM. An interesting (and frustrating challenge). I am not sure I deserve credit for this as SincoTC was the first to say it was an Etrich Taube, so in normal circumstances I would hand it over to him. However he did say "Open House" if he won, so in that case I will take control!

My offering to follow shortly.
