.........

I just noticed something else - it's got a bloody thick wing. Thick wings and deltas do not go well together. Think of the Javelin!

Firestreak/Red-Top generation of missiles a clean pair of heals and were intended to be used air to ground
A couple of questions: Does your selection of missiles in the previous generation imply that the challenge is British?

And, purely as an non-native speaker: What does "show a clean pair of heals" mean

LM: just noticed something else - it's got a bloody thick wing. Thick wings and deltas do not go well together.
That's why I said "Not for very high speeds...."

"show a clean pair of heels"
outrun - out accelerate - accelerate faster than.

Note the correct spelling of "heels".

A DH design maybe....the DH.127? Only found a description which doesn't say a lot. I'm sure there's a whole bunch of clues I'm missing!

BAe had an idea like this 20 years ago for a project called SABA (Small Agile Battlefield Aircraft) here are two designs which feature an underbelly rotating turret for use against AAM's and Helicopters.
BAe P.1234-3

Edit: LM I did not see your post before posting mine!

Well done Reg, hard luck LM,

It is the BAe P.1234-3. Not a very inspiring set of numbers and one gets the impression that their hearts weren't really in it. NATO was keen but BAe just let it drop!

RegDep has control

OK Nigger, time for walkies!! (it IS a black Lab really it is!)

Edited to say I need help here, when I went to post, LM's post just had the correct acronym but Reg had posted with that and the project number and a mention of LM's post that I thought meant that he had found it without that help.

So, I am taking that LM was first with the acronym/description, but he edited the designation later, correct? So TC's call stays? I'd be fine with either call.

I stand corrected, LM.

Beaten by a real expert and gentleman is not a bad outcome, either

The stage is yours mate.

I'm back, sorry, what a time to lose the bly connection.

Reviewing the posts and playing hardball. LM's post was first, however it says BAe 1234. I don't want to be too picky, but there were three quite different aircraft under the 1234 program and Reg did correctly identify the 1234-3 variant, so my original judgement should stand.

However, it seems that Reg is happy for LM to go next, and if he's cool, then so am I.

Edited to say that I see that LM has lit the burners and departed!

So to keep things moving, and on the basis that I would have asked LM to elaborate on the variant anyway, and that Reg would have been first with the full name, I'll say the my decision stands and therefore, RegDep has control
