It is a Douglas aircraft, but not the XA-42 or XB-42. As the war was coming to a close, the production of the mystery aircraft was cancelled.

Douglas XB-43? Only two prototypes were built and the project was abandoned in, I think, 1946.

Magarnagle is correct. The Skypirate, also known as the Devastator II. You have control.

That Skypirate looks as if somebody made an Airfix Dornier 335 in the dark.

List of Cockpits presented to date has been amended.

See seperate thread for updated lists of both What Cockpit and What Aerodrome. To date some 1056 cockpits have been presented and it is great to see that there has been only 53 duplicates in the two and half years since Mr_Grubby started the thread.

Spot on con pilot they are listed as North American and Ryan, as L17 and Navion, wuold the screen mod be only one of these ? Look forward to your challenge. Keith.

Thank you Keith. Nothing for now, open house.

(Glad I was right, I use to fly them.)

wuold the screen mod be only one of these ? .
No, not really. Navion is an abbreviation of North American Aviation who was the original manufacture of this aircraft. The Air Force version was called the L-17. The last version of this aircraft was the Range Master. It was a very easy aircraft to fly. All the Navions except the Range Master had a sliding canopy for cabin access. I always suspected that the canopy arrangement was one reason the Navion was not as popular as could have been.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe that the Navion had more possible modifications on the market than any other single engine aircraft. The modifications range from the windshield, engines, cowling's, cabin windows, wing fairings, landing gear doors, and on.
