Not from Bell. It is the front seat, and the only seat.

If it's what I think it is, it has tandem seating. Correct?

It looks like the new Sikorsky helicopter type thing.. However, that had tandem seating..

cheers,
Jake.

Could it be that this picture is of an aircraft with tandem seating for two, but the rear seat is loaded with test equipment for the first flight?

I can see that is a possibilty, but the OP said that it only had one seat, not tandem seating..

cheers,
Jake.

Sorry gents, I was mistaken. The mystery helicopter does indeed have 2 seats. RegDep's comment on test equipment in the back-seat is correct.

An X2 mock-up?

Whatever it is, there's no excuse for such a shabby design... It looks like human factors nightmare - hardly appropriate to rotary flight, which in my limited experience is already more than bl##dy difficult enough! (I've hung up the Jetranger keys, and declared myself the loser!).

It is not a mock-up. It is the cockpit of the Sikorsky X2 record-breaking 250-knot co-axial helicopter. frontlefthamster has control.

Really, I think Spit161 (Jake) got there first...

So, OPEN HOUSE (Jake, what have you got to bring to the party?).

And I remain genuinely horrified that Sikorsky can design such a clever helicopter and give it such a badly-thought-out cockpit... What are their TPs saying about it?

Hello all - it's going to have to be an open house I'm afraid - not going to be able to monitor any challenge tonight.
However, I'll chip in at the next OH.

Seems like this one was easier than I thought... Ridge Runner, You are of course right; this is the flight deck of the original piston-engined airliner by the name of Il-18 that has nothing to do with the later, well-known turboprop.

Open house has been called.
