Could it be that this picture is of an aircraft with tandem seating for two, but the rear seat is loaded with test equipment for the first flight?
cheers,
Jake.

An X2 mock-up?
Whatever it is, there's no excuse for such a shabby design... It looks like human factors nightmare - hardly appropriate to rotary flight, which in my limited experience is already more than bl##dy difficult enough! (I've hung up the Jetranger keys, and declared myself the loser!).

Really, I think Spit161 (Jake) got there first...
So, OPEN HOUSE (Jake, what have you got to bring to the party?).
And I remain genuinely horrified that Sikorsky can design such a clever helicopter and give it such a badly-thought-out cockpit... What are their TPs saying about it?

Don`t know how they can claim a World Record as it is not a true helicopter; it is a Compound..!!!!
Seems like this one was easier than I thought... Ridge Runner, You are of course right; this is the flight deck of the original piston-engined airliner by the name of Il-18 that has nothing to do with the later, well-known turboprop.
Open house has been called.
