Not an HS2L or H1. The mystery cockpit made history.

Not the Hydroaeroplane model, although it is a flying boat.

As I guess, I would venture that it made a long flight, maybe in a few jits and jots, across a large body of water more or less in May 1919. This would have been shortly before a VV made the same flight the following month, but the VV did it all in one go.

The Curtis NC 4 meets the criteria. 4 built and the first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic.

Open house if I am right; travelling at the moment and no access to photo library.

Jumping in with the offer of 'open house'.

A self portrait taken by Pater. Not a cockpit, but a crew station of an aircraft not done before.

"Curtiss(?) Challenge"

If it is indeed a Curtiss, can I recommend this page which demonstrates the devillish cunning of evansb's challenge?
http://www.msacomputer.com/FlyingBoa...s/Curtiss.html shows the extent of the Curtiss company's flying boat development - even the author admits at the end that the early models "Need another year or two to sort them out...."
Well done!

A real stab in the dark from an amateur like me.

Based on a picture I have which shows a former of almost identical shape behind the navigators table.…

Re my challenge: Yes, it was indeed the Curtiss NC-4. The first American aircraft to cross the Atlantic.

Sorry Evans SB. Misread mustpost's reply and jumped in early. Just as well he was correct!

Not a Wellington - that's been done. But close!

Correct. Vickers Valetta T3. A Navigation trainer at RAF Thorney Island taken in 1952. These aircraft were used as flying classrooms - note all the astrodomes!

The Varsity has been done before, but the Valetta is a different type being the same airframe but with a different undercarriage layout.

Again, apologies for the breach in protocol. Jenkins, you have control.
