I suppose a partially overgrown runway and trees aren't a lot to go on! This airfield has a particularly historic connection.

Yes – well done John. It is indeed one of the runways at what was Tinian North Field whence the two atomic bomb missions were launched on Japan. The two bomb pits from which the B29s Enola Gay and Bock’s Car were loaded are still evident also. Open house it is then.
(A belated word of thanks to I.garey for his interesting previous challenge. When I started work in Peterborough in 1964 Westwood airfield was still discernible – all housing now.)

Thanks flyingwing for the compliment. Peterborough Westwood airfield looked like this in 1990. Now even the factory has gone and been replaced by a prison! A few of the old RAF buildings survive (eg Officers' Mess).
