It's no wonder that there is a shortage of air traffic controllers. During the pandemic, Airservices Australia instigated a redundancy program, with the last group of redundancies effective June 2022. Who would have thought that air traffic would ever recover from the COVID lows?

Cant see ONESKY getting up when there are no controllers available to be trained for the new system??

Still TIBAs and TRAs started with the SDE debacle (2005 onwards) when the current managers took over the asylum and AsA has been a seriously funny farm since then…

Maybe its all just a con, no one has died yet, so do a Ronnie save some money and sack all the controllers, no one would notice

Two things I got from that video. Alice Springs had 43 degrees yesterday and ATC'ers are lying around overseas like thumb tacks apparently, just waiting to come to Australia. Most problems can be solved with money but this will also require time.

Oh, did I forget the corrupt excess payouts hidden by non disclosure agreements.

Hilarious, brilliant imagery. Recruiting O/S ATCs has been a bit of a disaster. With one or a few exceptions, most foreign ATCs have returned home. It's a lot of money and effort without a long term benefit. Sure it might plug a hole but denies a local of a 30 year career. Surprised the Union allowed it.

It's highly likely that the flow of ATCs will be the other way, to the sand pit or UK or Hong Kong. AUS ATC TWRs have lots of Kiwi controllers, if they decided to move back home then it would be catastrophic. Perhaps they are the ATCs working ridiculous amounts of overtime, with total salaries of almost $500K ($1 AUD = $1.06 NZD), special destination allowances and above award payments.

ER_BN, you missed the bit about special "location of choice" agreements. The smart ATCs are working every 2nd or 3rd shift as a paid Change of Shift and double their salary without working extra days. Special, pay it forward, the gift that keeps on giving.

So Missy if I get this right from what you are telling me, confirmed by what some principled controllers are telling me as well, is that the controllers are ‘gaming’ the system as well as the politicians and bureaucrats.

How interesting, no moral or ethical boundaries at all. Joe Public will crucify them. The NACC will find this very interesting…safety and fatigue constraints ignored…all in the chase of the holy dollar. Makes CASA a joke as well….re fatigue management which seems to have been completely disregarded by AsA management and ?some controllers…

Oh dear! A criminal focused Royal Commission seems an inevitable outcome…
