Also, how do you think Covid has affected career progression for new hires, do you think the ~ 10 years to 320 command/wide body FO will change?
avg. over next 10 years is 31 per yr hitting 65

Are they still recruiting 500hr FO's for the turboprops? If so what would an FO make with ATPL exam credits? What is an average time to command on the TP? Hrs flown per year, do many people break monthly guarantee? What's the typical time to the jet fleet, better off to go elsewhere and skip the links and the 8yr ban and get in as an external? What bases are people tending to get? Which fleet is the preference? Are people actually getting hired at 500 hrs?

Cheers

I know people who are getting hired with 500 hours, the last guy got an ATR base in AKL. Joining now you are at the end of a very long queue for Jet poisitions and upyou can expect to be waiting at least 8 years and that is at current recruitment levels. Having said that though, given the reduced direct entry paths there is no guarantee you will get in any quicker if you go elsewhere. I have hear of people getting commands as soon as they meet the minimum hours. At the end of the day if your ultimate aim is to spend your career in Air NZ you are probably better off joining ASAP into whatever position you can get. If at some stage you would like to experience a different environment and do some overseas flying with Emirates or similar you are better off going straight to a jet somewhere else and go and do that first.

I've never seen AirNZ change their listed minimums - if you have enough to meet them and get an interview you've got a good shot. Hiring has been slowing, but is still regular.

Time to command, fleet, and hours flown per year can vary a lot and will depend on what fleet/base you are. If you already hold ATPL minimum hours, then the requirement you are likely waiting for is 1000hrs part 121 before you can upgrade. I'd say a command somewhere 2-3yrs is achievable, but if you've already got similar experience it could be pretty much straight away.

There's no minimum guarantee, its straight salary + meal/overnight allowances, with your exam credit say 85-95K NZD. Ollie Onion is onto it about the jet progression, it feels like crystal ball stuff.

Is there any appetite / pressure to drop the “B” pay-scale (same job, same pay and all that…).

I believe it’s about an extra 1k in the pocket per month? It might go some way attracting higher time pilots which I’m sure they need for command upgrades.

There is a lot of pushback on that front - I'd expect that to happen in the next CEA which is maybe a year away? It would help reduce attrition as well so I think they'll go for it.

I reckon they should go back to starting people on the Dash 8 for less money than the current rate...

I guess I should have put a sarc warning on it for the blind....

But seriously, it demonstrates that people either have short memories or a complete lack of knowledge on why the blended rate exists in the first place.
