Air Niugini gets new boss
Air Niugini and Kumul Telikom get new bosses

THE Government has announced the appointments of Alan Milne as Air Niugini Limited’s managing director and Paul Hyde as the managing director of Kumul Telikom Holdings Limited.
Minister for Public Enterprise and State Investment William Duma, pictured, said under the Kumul Consolidated Holdings Act, “there is a process we follow when we announce the chief executive officers of our State-owned enterprises”.
“In the case of Air Niugini and Kumul Telikom Holdings Limited, we had to follow that process,” Duma said.
“KCH as a shareholder of Air Niugini and Kumul Telikom Holdings Limited engaged recruitment consultants who placed advertisements in the papers asking for expressions from potential candidates.”
He said Milne had a “wealth of experience in the aviation industry and is a 36-year veteran of Qantas Airways Limited”.
“He was the Head of Operations Performance. He has very impeccable credentials,” he said.
Australian Milne holds a Masters in Business and Technology, a Bachelor in Technology degree and is a qualified aircraft maintenance engineer.
“Air Nuigini has had its share of problems but we still see great potential,” Duma said.
Duma said Hyde had worked in a number telecommunications companies around the world, including in the Caribbean, Russia, West Africa and the Middle East.
“He has got a proven track record of turning around struggling tele-communication companies in developing countries,” Duma said.
“We felt he could help us turn around our struggling telecommunications companies (as) he is someone who has worked in countries similar to ours.”
The three State-owned telecommunications companies which have been merged are bmobile, Telikom and DataCo
Englishman Hyde holds a Masters in Business Administration (marketing and finance) degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree (business studies) and a Diploma in Radio Engineering.

Years ago apparently KLM somehow got involved and had a lot to do with how the airline became robust particularly from a check and training perspective. Obviously things have changed over the years, given the most recent accident something drastic needs to be changed to turn things around.
Who ever wears the CEO Cap has got a mammoth job ahead of them, just hope he gets the support from the right areas to get things back on track.

Chinese airline will step up to cover the short fall. Most willingly I'd guess.....

Hey Duckie....I beg to differ......KLM did not have anything much to do With Air Niugini Check and Training..Their main task seemed to be to Palm Off the Clapped out DC8 s they had as a replacement for the “Ageing” 707s....thank cripes that never happened. BIG BIRD saved the day

Overall the KLM experiment proved about as successful as bringing in Filipino Public servants to replace incumbent Aussies, where the ancient and practised art of corruption and nepotism rapidly became the norm.

Hear Hear, well spoke Hugh. As someone who was there at the time they were the wrong choice against the other two, being Qantas and PanAm. Prior to their arrival PX was a World Class airline, but their Northern Hemisphere attitude, and belligerent ideas at times, were not suited to our way of operating, and helped to spawn the commencement of the downhill trend, which has slowly continued unabated and has culminated in the present state of the Company.
The new man has a big task ahead of him, and we can only hope that he comes to grips with the basic 4th floor cause(s) in a relatively short time, and takes a firm stand against outside influence and interference.

It will be a failure...he has absolutely no idea of what he is about to come up against and although he will see his authority as absolute, in reality it only exists if "they" say so. He will be initially welcomed, then tolerated, then at best, leave as a lame duck CEO or more likely, undermined, then fired...at best he is there for CEO on his resume and may make changes at the behest of his masters...the rest is stamp collecting and inevitable, unless the government either changes or decides to make changes.

Air Nogat is a State owned enterprise, means it is owned by the Government, run by many of the elected Government big men (even though they have no idea in any stretch on how an airline should be run). So Air Nogat is and is just a cash cow to be used by the Government when it needs money (see how many big 20 Mil cut out cheques have been presented as "dividends" over the last several years).
Been sometime since a Managing Director, or a CEO ran ANG. Maybe this new one has some big cojones, need them to take the job.....best of luck, hope it works...those there need someone to pull a rabbit out of the hat and keep them employed.
