Australian pilots can work for US regionals.
Going from Australia to the USA straight onto a 73 or 320 atm just isn't possible. I only know of 1 regional right now taking E3 pilots and from what the recruiter has said that's only for people who already have an FAA ATP licence.
There have been rumours over the last 3 years that Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant will take E3s but so far I only know of 1 person that has done this. Atlas has also taken E3 in the past but those people already had an FAA license and over 1000 hours USA part 121 time.
Even if USA cargo and LCCs do start taking E3s, I suspect they will pluck them from a US regional long before they take you with no FAA license.
I was at an Allegiant job fair pre covid and the recruiter said that they will take 1500 hour instructors straight from a flight school job before they sponsor a foreigner.
So the pilot pool will have to be very dry for some of the predictions above to come true.

It appears Ireland is now added to the E 3 visa status. Congress approved the additional country late last year.....
"This bill expands the E-3 visa program to cover Irish nationals. The E-3 visa is a nonimmigrant visa currently only available to Australian nationals coming to the United States for employment in a specialty occupation. For Irish E-3 initial applications, the Department of State may approve each fiscal year no more than 10,500 minus the number of Australian initial applications approved the previous fiscal year"

It's hard to read through the government gibberish but this has been introduced into and passed the House of Representatives, was sent to the Senate but not yet passed into law ?

I am curious how that would actually work though given the E3 is a strictly non immigrant intent Visa and the EB3 is for immigrant workers in professions where there are no/severely limited amounts US citizens available to perform the job. I know there is a “shortage” but that could be a bit of a stretch to convince the USCIS and DOL no one else can do it.
Fantastic if they can pull it off without risking their E3 Visa though!
C5 started the sponsorship process for one guy before corona. It has been been more or less successful. Since CommutAir is struggling to get Captains to meet the extreme demand to grow from UA, CommutAir has now got a bunch of new or soon to be captains locked in for at least 18 months. I think this is the start of a big shift in what is possible for Aussies to achieve in the US.
Why did they do this process for just one guy ? Was he going to be the Test Aussie to see if it could be done ? And have they done it successfully for a number of others since then ?
Yeah he was a sort of test case, but managed to negotiate it for himself outright. In any case, his hard work has laid the groundwork now for others to follow. This program also gives Aussies access to the UA Aviate program.
Just a bit of info (maybe good news for someone ?). ExpressJet is nearing resurrection. Hard to say if this'll go but things are underway. ExpressJet is, afaik, a known Aussie user so it may be worth taking a look at the application process if it can be found or appears. With all the current hiring at the regionals, people might be hesitant to roll the dice on ExpressJet coming back and making a go of it ? Just a guess on my part:
I don't see an application process on their website:

Also means they can now ditch the ball busting GF’s?

Keep in mind United will be retiring 200 CRJ50/ERJ145 in the next three years. It has yet to be announced if these will be from Skywest, Commutair, or Air Wisconsin.
With what? There isn’t any other 50 seat airframe that’s still being made or in the works that’s more of an economical option and the number of 70 seat airframes is pretty much maxed out under the UAL pilots’ scope. The chances that that will change any time in the near future is slim to none.

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has heard any hiring news in the last week regarding Aussies being employed on the E3?? Specifically, if Skywest is any closer to opening the doors? If they aren't, is the possibility at least on the horizon yet?
Would be good to hear from someone who has spoken to a recruiter there.
Cheers!
