To use one of Alan Joyce's phrases.

"It's time to stop kicking the can down the street"

AJ started and grew JQ as its first CEO, some would say to the detriment of the Qantas brand.

However.

Could somebody please tell me any of Alan's achievements regarding the mainline business?

AJ & the board need to go.

They have been responsible for the Terminal Decline & need to be removed before the travelling public loose faith in the carrier and forward bookings drop off.

Lurching from one crisis or calamity to another is hardly a way to run a business.

The airline is suffering from self harm & those responsible need to be removed.

Apparently QF is saying the SYD-JNB flight will continue after the announcement, and there is no changes to the daily schedule it operates now. (In an internal email to employees) There has been talk of it going but in all honesty if QF cant make it work on a monopoly route with no end of line carrier issues, and a high yielding one at that then it couldnt make it on any route internationally.

When the good news is they are maintaining one daily route then it cant bode well for bad news....

Mate, people are suffering, they have mortgages, commitments, kids, and are feeling a bit sick right now. QF staff do not make the decisions about how the airline behaves, they are simply the people who have to carry them out. Gloating over so many, feeling fear and discomfort, says a lot about you.

Job losses "ACROSS THE BOARD"

Please. Let it be job losses from the board.
Mods, while we are at it, we need a like button thingy on here....

Well said MC

SOPS, It's a good piece from the ABC, to their credit, they got in early, it's only Monday a sign the little bloke is going to have a rough ride on Thursday's unveiling,
In the past six years, Qantas has made a myriad mistakes. Its aircraft use too much fuel. It invested and concentrated on budget operation Jetstar, while management openly trash talked the performance of its international operations.
He may lose his shirt this time.... Also, I'm sure the "troll dancing" on here will gather to a furious pace as the week progresses...

They have been out in force on the various blogs for a month now, unlike last year... Another signal they are bit more concerned about a media backlash... Pascoe gave it some today as well

I could be wrong,but,.......it seems to me that some of the media has finally woken up to just what is going on, or has finally decided to report what is actually going on.

Yes it's taken a long time but Joyce has burnt up all his credibility and played one too many cards this round. I doubt very much if the government will do much. Truss is way ahead of most and Hockey will have to lead by example that he spoke of recently in front of the G20. For Joyce its obvious he cried wolf once too often and the spin and lies has finally caught up with him. What a terrible pity! This year will be his last I feel. One has to wonder why the previous CEO and now Joyce **** canned the airline for ten years or more. What was the ulterior motive?

Well, the "public interest" level has increased, and to them it makes it worthwhile to report on it to make a dollar.
They knew what was going on but now, they've decided to jump on the bandwagon.
We can only hope there is some serious reporting taking place on Thursday.

We can only hope there is some serious reporting taking place on Thursday.
The one serious reporting I want to see on Thursday is Joyce's and Clifford's resignation.

The rest will be the same old crap about unions, Aussie employees, Aussie dollar, Jetstar the Amaaazing, unprofitable routes, QSA, Dirty Virgins, etc.

So, on the 27th, instead of all of us sitting around crying in our Beers, lets buy our fellow colleagues a coldie and toast to the 27th, as it shall be remembered as

"Fv<K off ALAN DAY!"

Cheers

basket case, case study, something like that

In years to come, the brazen rape of Qantas will become a thing of folklore and everyone will wonder "how was it allowed to happen".
This is absolutely business management case study material , and not in a good way.

You reap what you sew. Years of Qantas treating it's staff like crap , and you wonder why some are inclined to screw the company for everything they can?

I don't believe it, someone is actually telling it how it is.

Don't fall for the Qantas ruse - Business - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

You mean the 'ALPBC' Sops?...the ALPBC that cops such a hiding around here??

I wouldn't believe a word the lefty socialist muppets report!....After All Chairman Clifford is a huge personal financial supporter of the Liberal party

Alan might be scared of a chant starting?

Interesting that someone has posted a comment questioning the nerve of the Irishman as the news is broke to the troops on campus...

It may be well to tempting for staff to call for the head of their leader, as they see their mates being sacrificed for his plan?

I can hear the chant now "Joyce must go!; Joyce must go!....doesn't make for good tele for Alan does it...for we are not at the cricket now are we :-)

Media Bias

SOPS,
I believe the media still a has a way to go towards balanced reporting in this area.
Tonight's 6pm News had a feel good item on a Jetstar father and son flying together up front.
A sceptic (like me) might question the timing of this as something more than sheer coincidence if Thursday's announcements bear any relation to decrying mainline and applauding Jetstar.

I'm actually starting to think that the QF Executives will just want to get thru the week with their jobs intact.

I doubt that staff will have any clearer picture as to the direction the company is going by weeks end.

There will be plenty of terms like

Emirates Synergies
Difficult Operating Environment
Legacy Cost base
Regulatory delays in Asia
Aggressive competitors
Uneven playing fields
Reducing costs from the business by $2B over two years.

And my personal favourite.

The Executive team under direction from the Board have done a magnificent job considering the difficult trading environment.

But I seriously don't think there will be much more substance.

I'm guessing we will hear about the ONGOING structural review and staff / shareholders will receive more information over the next few weeks and months.

I watched the last few AGM's and I'm certainly not expecting anything of substance.

MC.

Interesting to hear on Sky's "State Of The Nation" tonight, that unless QF do something about its management, its pointless giving them much help. It would appear the rest of the country, have finally worked it out. The problems do not lie with the staff, indeed, not even so much with the respective unions, but the board and management itself. As a 89er, I know the gut wrenching feeling you blokes are going thru, I hope each and every one of you, retain your jobs, and able to move on, after Thurs, in a new direction, with hope and optimism. Good luck, fellas and girls.
