Serious question,
How far away from a Perth command are the j numbers?

Whilst I totally agree the planned training positions are a sad reflection of where QF Mainline is heading as far as I'm aware no retirements are coming out of PER base.

The mining boom continues unabated though...

The Jetstar MOU numbers won't be anywhere near those required for PER commands. 400-odd numbers off absolute minimum, I'd say.

Last allocation, most junior 737 command start date around mid '95. JQ numbers start in Nov '04. Between there - 834 numbers, less a few that have commands, plus a few more senior that might take a command.

It'll be a long wait fellas.

Latest rumour sees a substantial reduction in domestic mainline flying. Appears DJ are taking more punters than expected on top of softening forward demand.

The latest allocations just demonstrate Joyce's policy of shrinking to grow doesn't only effect international ops.
One of Joyce's reasons for grounding the airline was his insistence that the unions have no say in managing or running the show.
Trust us, when we say we don't, however our job is say to say something when we see something we aren't comfortable with, and put simply, it's the spiral dive the company is being placed in, whilst the majority of reporters, fund managers seem to think that Joyce is on the right track. Not much to do with the $ of the current contract but simply the survival of anything wrt qantas.
Standing by for the billion dollar profit from jetstar subsidiaries to prove me wrong.

Hey Jetstarpilot... why would you want to come to mainline?
Aren't you too busy flying to JFK on Jetstar?

Sorry to dissapoint you QF guys but the latest over here in the growth side of the group is you lot will iron out all the bugs with RED Tail 330's before handing over to the players who can actually turn a decent profit.

I thought the last lot of numbers went down to the early 1500's?
Perth is not for a lot of people. Short haul award, expensive and anyone going will be stuck there for a long time.
Anyone care to wager a bet as to how far down the list they will go?

Agree though and hate to respond to some of the posts here, there are a lot of guys keen to go before they will ever get to Jetstar numbers.

FWIW maybe theyll make 1600?

Dont think so LHS. With limited opportunity and lack of future prospects, the goal posts have moved a little. I think many will come out of the woodwork and would be lucky to see any mainline command less junior than 1300ish at best these days.

With all due respects I would inform you that QF Shorthaul is far from a "Gravy" Train as you put it, in fact the the take home pay is not far different from J*, you need to get into the Longhaul area, maybe as a S/O?

Thats where the true rich prime Wagyu Beef Gravy train resides(without offal added , apart from the pilots themselves!), QF Shorthaul and Virgin is more like a Meat pie gravy train, (little bit of meat but basically full of offal), not far from the Jet* frozen Meat Pie train, (Meat is a foreign substance in that sauce), which still is better than the Jet* Asia Mekong Delta Barramundi sauce train (dont even ask whats in that gravy), but alas you could even succumb to the Jet* NZ Dog food mince train (maybe shredded blood and bone with token offal?), but even that presides over the Susi Air sewerage train!

Its extremely hard to know what numbers it will go to as there are so few commands up for grabs, I am thinking pretty senior though maybe around 1400 mark? It is anyones guess I guess, wait a minute.....too many guesses..

Dream on J* guys. Better stick to saving the Qantas group. Ha. The numbers will be around 1000 and below. How do I know? I'll be one of them!

Think about it. Mainline presently shrinking. Redundancies on the cards. Go to Shorthaul, sit it out for a while, transfer back to the east coast when you can and come back to Longhaul if it ever turns around. No need to go on LWOP and then if you do come back to Q have to give up a command.

I think it will go very senior this time.

The most junior to get a PER command slot in the last year was in the low 1100s. The way things are in QF right now, I would think it will go more senior this time around.

With regards a couple of posts on this page, I don’t think the QF and J* guys have to sling off at each other, those that do are just showing their immaturity.

I'd be surprised if the PER command slots made it any further south than the 1100 - 1200s. Might even not get into 4 digits.

in the 1930's

Probably only get a PER 737 FO, although Ive heard they are moving up the list as well....
Previously it would have got a MEL 737 FO, and at one stage a BNE 737 FO, but not anymore.

Wont get 380 SO with that number either

Forget it. You WILL be moving your life to Perth for a VERY long time. It's the new Hotel California. Mind you, better than the back seat.

Best of luck to all in the years ahead and for the inevitable game of musical chairs. Let's just hope there's not too many left standing.

"Forget it. You WILL be moving your life to Perth for a VERY long time."

Why's that 2Plus?

If a more senior guy goes to PER and east coast slots subsequently become available he/she can still bid for those in seniority and it becomes a base transfer! Not Hotel california, depending on your seniority!

If you're that confident of getting back to the east coast in the future, why not stay on the Long Haul "mother ship" and wait for all those future opportunities to become available.

You can save yourself-
-$15k self funded moving costs.
-$850-$1000/week rent or min $1,000,000 to buy some pretty average place in the burbs. Don't believe me? Check out realestate.com.au
-Working a min of 18-19 days off out of every 28 day roster regardless of the planned divisor. They seem to be adjusting the trip density to achieve this.
-Working under a rotating bidding system that doesn't honour seniority for 9-10 months of the year.
-Working under a Superannuation system that is not funded with any relationship to hours actually worked.
-Trying to find a spot at a descent private school or your kids. Long waiting lists at any school worth considering.
-Trying to find something to do in your spare time for you and your family, other than getting p..sed at 10 bucks a beer.

So back to the question:
If you're that confident of getting back to the east coast in the future, why not stay on the Long Haul "mother ship" and wait for all those future opportunities to become available.

You know what.....There won't be any opportunities on the east coast as the contraction continues unabated.

Hotel California....Yeah that's how I'd describe it!

Happy Gilmore

Been on realestate.com. Nothing like what you're saying. In fact most of your post is rubbish including: $10 a beer. Perhaps you don't want the competition heh? trying to put people off!?

At least 9 days off a roster is he gig. Super is what it is. Still beats going to J* on LWOP.

Plenty of things to do in Perth....it's a great city!

Perhaps not so Happy...Gilmour methinks.

Just MHO
