I've applied, and no response... Applications close 18th June.. First round of ACP expected to start July, and Ab-initio expected August. I would assume applicants will get a response very soon after 18th June.

This is very interesting. I wonder what it will do for the conditions for GA pilots? Why would you spend 5 years in GA busting your ass off for minimal pay + conditions when you can go straight on to a jet?
Bust your arse in GA for 5 years on minimal pay + conditions
or
Bust your arse in Jetstar for 5 years on minimal pay + conditions
At least at Jetstar you get to wear a Buck Rogers uniform

In regards to a cadet moving from "Junior" F/O Status to a level 1/2 or 3 F/O the following needs to be understood.
CAR (Civil Aviation Regulation) 5.172 stipulates the aeronautical experience required to hold a (full, rather than frozen) ATPL. An ATPL needs to be issued before a cadet moves from a Junior F/O to a standard F/O, and an ATPL also has to be held to become a Captain. As it stands be today a junior cadet would earn around 55k per annum and a level 2 would earn just over 92k per annum.
Although you will receive most of your non ICUS component from you CPL training there will be elements of the ICUS component that the company will need to facilitate to allow you to upgrade from your junior status. And given the pay disparity between junior F/O's and a standard F/O there is little justification for them to do so. (This had never been the case at Qantas) because there was no such thing as a Junior cadet. Therefore Qantas saw it in their interests to assist all new entrants to gain the relevant experience to achieve an ATPL (assuming the did not have one upon entry) as they would all be eligible for a command upgrade and it did not cost them any extra money.
Although Qantas has a long tradition of allowing cadets (within Qantas mainline) to gain ICUS time, this has yet to be established at Jetstar and given that all ICUS time is predicated on flying with an approved training captain at the request of the company applicants to the cadet program need to clearly understand that they may well find themselves fixed at a "junior" status for longer than anticipated. If money gets tight (as it usually does at Jetstar) and the company sees a greater pool of experience within the Direct entry candidates they are under no obligation to upgrade any junior F/O. This is because, in relation to the EBA seniority is "A major consideration" in relation to promotion rather than "The only consideration"
Good luck

Tax payable
Whether it is called a training loan/ fee help or whatever I would strongly advise getting proper tax advice prior to signing up as the repayment should be in post tax dollars as the training and loan was undertaken before you were employed in whatever position you are now being paid for.
Truth is, like many tax "effective" arrangements, you will get away with anything until it is audited by the tax department then they come hunting you for the thousands you may have incorrectly claimed.
On the upside you will still be earning so little compared to community standards that there will not be too much tax anyhow.

I know somebody who has 14,000 hours with less than 300 in command. If he ever gets laid off at his age, he may not get a job on a King Air.
Choose your airline VERY carefully!
Career in the right seat isn't bad, but it's not one most would choose.

If they charge each applicant a fee of $1000 just to apply they will make $20 million up front , thats half an airbus.Or a super bonus for managers.
Its like GA many years ago when you had to offer your services for free just to get hours up. Now you get to fly a Jet.
I honestly think if you are switched on enough and get a uni degree after 4 years you can get a better paid job , buy a house etc rather than a job that has a mortgage on it. If it takes 10 years longer to buy a house being a pilot than an ex uni student who took 5 years, then your house will probably cost double.
Its all about the cash ..............

there's nothing 'free' about this - as the advertisment onn Campbell Live last night suggested. From Jetstar's website,
Advanced Cadet Program (ACP, for pilots with a CPL,MECIR and ATPL subjects)
Includes Multi Crew Training + Jet Conversion Training + A320 endorsement + Jetstar In-Flight Line Training
$83,950 AUD (All meals and accommodation provided for duration of training in Nursling, UK)
Jetstar will provide you with 50% sponsorship (AUD 21K) towards the ground training costs of the ACP. In addition to this Jetstar will fund (up front) the remaining costs of the ACP program - this will be repaid to Jetstar by cadets over a period of 6 years whilst you are employed as a pilot operating for Jetstar.
Note: you will be bonded for a period of 6 years
and the funding blurb:
Advanced Cadet Program
The total course cost for this program is $83,950 AUD. There are 2 parts to this program 1) Ground training at CTC ($41,950) and 2) In-Flight training provided by Jetstar ($42,000).

What I don't understand is where the $41k for ground training comes from. If you've already got a CPL/MECIR/ATPL exams, is the $41k for the type rating ground course? Multi-crew course? Those courses are around $4k max. And I have heard of 750-1000hr instructors & GA pilots who have been told they have too many hours!

So I've added up my logbook...
I'm 40hrs night PIC off an ATPL.
All the other boxes will be ticked off in the next two weeks.
I have not yet applied but am very keen....
BUT I have a feeling i am going to get nocked back.
If I am successful and get through i will have to be paid an FO salary as opposed to the JFO. Assuming I do some night flying before hand and have an ATPL.
I know it says minimum req: CPL not ATPL.
I think J* is going to much prefer give someone the job with 250hrs who they can keep as a JFO for as long as possible..
I can not find an email address to ask anyone questions. lets be honest, everyone has their own ideas and have heard their own rumours, i just want to ask my questions and get answers from J*.
Friends have suggested I just apply and ask them all my questions in the interview, but surely i can find some things out before hand..

noprobss, why aren't you applying to the DEFO job? Why are you paying for something you "deserve" You're qualified so why would you want to pay just for the "privilege" of working for them?

Ok, so the naive way I see it, GA - Difficult to get a Job. Cadetship - Ripped Off. Defence - 12 in, no way out and you might not end up where you want. So if you really want to enter the industry, How do you do it? The Cadetship might just be a foot in the door...?
