"benign area"...well, really it depends on how you look at it. The Pacific is always regarded as "demanding area" due to its remoteness and invariably unreliable facilities which in other countries is taken for granted. On a really bad night and the chips are down, and your alternate is 90 minutes away and forecast shows xxxRASH with only NDB approach available, no standby generator at both facilities, communications by HF (San Fran) only, what do you do? You'd have to be pretty resourceful and quick smart because fuel becomes very critical and ditching becomes more of a reality. I wouldn't say it's benign.

Have you people learnt nothing. There is only one thing consistent about BB and that is he hates everybody but himself. He is to be pitied rather than hated as he is one sick puppy. The only way to treat him is with complete indifference and totally ignore his posts as he gives nothing of value but simply strokes his own ego. Unfortunately he will in his own warped way even get pleasure from this post. I still believe the moderators should do something about him so others can enjoy what would otherwise be a sensible thread
I shall now sit back and wait to be given a dose of BB logic which is only relevant in his own warped little world

Oh AFBL, surely you account for those things when you are working out fuel loads. No standby generator at both ends sounds like a bit of a porkie. If you were operating with those conditions, you were operating outside the law. If you are stupid enough to risk your own life, well I hope I am not in the back of any aircraft you are driving. A single NDB? Poor baby. Thats how it worked for years. The ability to fly an NDB approach is the most basic requirement of an instrument rating. Alternate 90 minutes away, awwww, it doesnt matter how far the alternate is away, provided you are carrying the fuel required under your company fuel policy. All of the above just goes to show the lack of exposure most pacific pilots have.
Fly elsewhere in the world, get some experience, and only then will you realise how benign the pacific is.
An interesting post frigate. It comes as no surprise you have numerous sets of wings and have worked for numerous operators. A word of advice my boy. It doesnt look that good on a resume. ( You may need to start sending it out soon if you're employed by OA, but then again you're basically working for free anyway).
I love the facts. they just dont lie.
