In reference to the facts, a B777 driver will be on more than a B737 driver "in the same division". (B777 Captain 180k-210k + allowances/B737 Captain 160k approx + allowances).

Not a great difference, but stick to the facts please.
VB 737 CAPT base as of July 08 will be $174183
PLUS 9% Super...$15676
= $189859
Plus Allowance's, Say $10000
$199859
Plus $1000/day for "Extra Days"...Which sometimes means 1 Sector
Would NOT be hard to Break
$220 - $230 000...( but that includes super) ie, Total package

You will / Can earn more as a VB domestic driver.......

THEY ARE THE FACTS....

As always posters on this site are jumping to conclusions based on rumour rather than fact!

Reading this thread no one has attended an interview instead relying on "He said...".

Pilots should start acting like the Aldi Manager - selling him/herself as a professional, and this is the deal! If the deal isn't right don't take it!

Stop the herd mentality, and pilots will become sought after and well paid like accountants, doctors and lawyers...

Now like no other time is the time to rethink the traditional way pilots have gone about seeking improvement to their terms and conditions!

That was comparing VB 737 with VA 777, ie, Super inclusive...

$15676 of the VB Capt salary is "Super"....

Correct me if i'm wrong ( but i don't think i am) A QF 737 Skipper can do $220 -$240 000, With super on top of that.........

Accountants, doctors and lawyers have many 100's of companies/organisations in Australia looking to recruit them. There are only 3 airlines (4 if you count Jetstar) recruiting.

There may be a short term undersupply of pilots in this country and around the world but the easiest way to fix that will be to drop the bar and accept less hours into the right seat. Less hours in the right seat will allow pays to go down even further. Which ultimately means less pay in the left seat as these guys get used to being paid less.

I think that you need to lobby CASA to make sure minimum hours are fixed to prevent this occuring.

HKF,

I agree KA is a much better deal, but they need to do something about the air in that town.

Wellhung,

You can leave the allowances out, everyone gets those - and we are supposed to spend all of it anyway.

However you didn't include overtime, which would probably average 10K, without even putting in for extra flying.

I have heard (not yet confirmed) there will be no overtime at V Aus. Can anyone confirm this?

Ok lets get some facts in here. I attended the interview for cruise FO and was offered a job.
Base salary is 53500 gross not including 12% super. (for ATPL holders) paid from the first day of training even though there are no aircraft.
Bond for 3 yrs. No seniority, upgrades are based on merit.
Yes you go back to VB as an FO to get some experience as min for B777 FO is 4000hrs and 2000hrs on a/c above 40Tonne.
42 days annual leave
loss of licence insurance covered

Very nice people in the interview and the general atmosphere is that it seems like a nice place to work.

Please do share

Flyhardmo,

Since you have successfully attended and passed the interview (and I am sure I speak for most people on this thread), It would appear that you would know a lot of facts on the interview process. How about sharing some information with the rest of us who'd very much like to know more about it?

As mentioned earlier, there is a lot of "He said....." stuff on this thread. Some more "actual" stuff is badly needed.

I am sure we would all appreciate it.

Interview process, Cruise F/O

Before the Interview you do a psych test online pretty much the same as QF through SHL.
for the interview were in a group of 4. Each person did a different segment of the interview process until they brought us all together for the group exercise.
You do another psych test, a mini version just to confirm that it was you who did it online, takes about 20-30mins.
You have a technical quiz, not very hard, Some CPL aerodynamics and some performance questions. For those who have done QF interviews I suggest you brush up. If people who have attended Interviews that are heavy on Tech stuff such as Cx you will find it a breeze. Every person gets a different Tech quiz.
Panel interview all behavioural type questions. They are really trying to assess your motivation etc. It was very relaxed, everyone was very nice, none of this good cop bad cop crap. They also told you a bit about the company, alot of questions I asked were not known at the time but any time after the Interview you can contact the V oz staff and they will try to assist.

There is not that much more to it. It was fun, not too nerve racking. One of the more relaxed Interview Processes that I have attended.

Flyhardmo,

I just want to comfirm what you have been told. After a period of time on the 777, are you coming to VB to get some experience and then going back to VAUS? I hope the company lives up to the expection that VB pilots can go to VAUS and then back to VB! If not, there are going to be some angry boys at VB!

There is NO agreement that allows V Aust Cruise First Officers or anyone else hired directly by V Aust to shift to VB as anything other than as a passenger

There is an agreement that allows VB Captains to shift to V Aust and then if desired (subject to vacancies) back to VB

Anyone who has been told that they can shift to VB has been told incorrect information

And there's the catch!

2 Possible scenerios.
  • VOZ will honour their "suggestion" that S/O's will be allowed to move across to Pacblue or DJ for "experience", and then when the time is right move back across! All dependent on those operators agreeing of course.
  • VOZ S/O's will become a captive underclass without any garenteed opportunity for advancement.
Wonderful!
