All the best to those who take those conditions, the only people I can see taking this is the VERY desperate piston/turbo-prop driver, and even those pilots with piston/turbo-prop experience are getting better offers :confused:

Honestly, the uninformed are always the loudest. An empty vessel makes the loudest noise. A few FACTS for those who are interested in FACTS. Heck, we wouldn't want the truth to get in the way of a good story would we?? How about the fact that you don't pay for, nor do you salary sacrifice your 777 endorsement. Nor is there a 'training' salary. Taking that into account, it would put you in a similar bracket to a Jet* A320/330 or VB737 driver who DOES salary sacrifice the endorsement out of their relatively higher annual salary.. As for 'paying' for your meal or getting a discount. It's a full service airline, you idiots. So NO ONE pays for meals! No, I'm NOT going to VAustralia, no I HAVEN'T applied, but I do know someone well who has applied and has all the relevant information. So why don't do you all get your stories straight before spouting off about issues of which you cleary know little!

if its a full service airline, the position can only be comparable to S/Os at QF. Now, go and get the 'FACTS' about that and you may understand peoples lack of enthusiasm...

I did not say you will have to pay for the meals, what I did say is that you will have to pay or won't be allowed anything of the carts. I wonder whether you do or have worked for VB before? Mates at CX were told paxing in economy, and if you have worked at Vb before, you wont be staying at any great hotels, it will be Holiday Inn style at best. The fact is, the money is sub industry standard, why does everyone want to compare Jet* pays to everyone elses pay, why not compare it to QF or others pay, its easy to compare it to the LCD. Any even if you don't pay for your endorsement, the pay is still substandard for long haul 777 flying.

Just ask anyone who works for a V company and they will fill you in. No rose coloured glasses here. Its amazing that a VB 737 driver will be on the package as the 777 driver who works for the same division minus the jetlag. And the cabin manager will get payed more than the CRZ FO. What tha. Just the facts!

Rumour doing the rounds that a QF B767 captain who had applied for a DEC position with V Oz politely withdrew his application when they advised the salary/conditions. Two weeks later, V Oz phoned him up and asked what salary would be sufficient for him to work for them. Apparently, they reached agreement on an undisclosed amount and he is to start with them in the near future.

If this is true then it shows that, if you know what your skills are worth, you can negotiate an acceptable package.

If that is the case GB, are VOZ pilots on an EBA or are some on individual contracts. I thought the latter were now illegal?

MUNT would you mind telling me where it is in writing that all full service airlines don't charge their recruits for endorsements?? Qantaslink is a 'full service' airline that were charging their new recruits for endorsements.
Right or wrong? Probably Wrong. But 'FACT' nonetheless.

They also asked him during round 1 if he was prepared to pay for his endo. He declined and was called back a few weeks later :ok:

Word was they needed experienced operators with ETOPS exposure:cool:

I think the EK 777 drivers are the lowest paid ,friend there making about 110k Aud a year as captain ,I believe Vaus is around 190k .
Its an easy choice....

GB, I know a similar story only this guy went EK to JQ on the 330. During the interview he asked what he would be paid. They told him, he laughed. They asked him what he was expecting. He told them nearly double what they were offering. Interview ended. Coupla weeks later they called offering what he had said. Went work for them, didn't like it after trip #2. Left and went back to EK.

It sounds like he didn't do the right thing by them but it wasn't that way at all. Ground staff in Melbourne treated him like a third class citizen after a sim session ran 5 hours late and caused him to miss his flight back to Syd. They wanted him to pay $150 to get the next flight. His contract said that during the three month probationary period either party to could part ways on 1 weeks notice. Rang Chief Pilot who was very nice about the whole thing and 1 week later he was gone.

Apparently these type of stories are not nearly as isolated as you would think.

So can anyone tell me how much a SO at QF is making?

Dealmeout, the base for a trainee S/O in QF is the equivalent of $32K. This lasts for 10-12 weeks. After that a new S/O would be on at least $65K +++ (company super, overtime and allowances). Realistically I'd be surprised if a new S/O didn't end up with $85-95K at the top of their pay slip at the end of their first 12 months. No need to pay for your endorsement either!
