Thanks Keg,
That really does put things in prospective. This whole V Oz thing is just sickening.
So I take it that this is the 2nd round of invitations to go out to SO's? I guess they are not getting the response they were hoping for.

Dealmout yeah 2nd round coming! I didn't go first and now they emailing me to come to 2nd one...Seems people didnt take the bait first time around!
I've been out of Australia for a few years now but it seems that even Tiger (based on 80-90 hours a month) is paying more than VB, Jetstar and V-australia...
Strange game called aviation in australia...

Firstly EK don't have SO positions.
Secondly you get full pay from day one.
Thirdly although you don't pay for the endorsement, you are bonded for the first three years, and (unless you go to the SkyPig ((380))) that is the end of bonding.
Thirdly the cash component of your pacakge at EK is a little higher than you quoted (subject to the outrageous value of the AUD).
All those educated enough realize there is more to the package than just the cash as you quote.
Oh l nearly forgot, they also contibute on top of that to your pension fund.
No it's not all beer and skittles in the desert, however to compare V Aus and EK is chalk and cheese. Just ask the ex-DJ crivers here.
I understand they are having interviews in DXB mid next month. I know many here did apply and not many accepted the T & C on offer except those determined to get home. Suspect that is universal amoungst most applicants - like myself.

I think the EK 777 drivers are the lowest paid ,friend there making about 110k Aud a year as captain
I believe Vaus is around 190k .
Its an easy choice....
Rambo, if you've gone for Vaus to get home, good on you and best of luck. Just don't BS that it makes financial sense.

Can I ask politly,
That if anyone does go to VAUS, please don't winge on this website in a year or two's time. Most of us don't want to hear about it. The info is out there, so buyer beware!

Halas, it's interesting that the EK guys are calling the A380 The SkyPig. The QF guys have been calling it The Dugong for a number of years now because of it resemblance to the Australian marine mammal (ie it's Butt Ugly). Personally, I think that Dugong should become its official title, although I think that Airbus may not agree.
Apologies for thread drift.

Had a very interesting conversation with a VB management pilot about V Aust. S/O terms and conditions. He had heard or was at least on the understanding that there would be no vertical promotion opportunities for said positions!!!
WTF!! Surely not. I do hope he misunderstood whatever he heard because that would be introducing yet another version of the lowest of low.

Other goss is that the Cruise FO will have to go to either Pac Blue or Virgin Blue for a couple of years experience, vacancies permitting, before they can get a Senior FO slot back on the 777. Senior FOs will have to get a command at VB or Pac Blue also prior to a command on the B777 as well.

B403,
VB Skipper Base $169500 as of July 08 $174183
Therefore 174183 + super + allowances (app $10000) = approx. $200K
VAUS Skipper $195000 (average) includes super + allowances = approx $205K
Well that looks like a great deal to me to fly a 777. Pax in economy to LA, S$%T hotels in LA, S$%T food and jet lag to boot. Lets see the wood from the trees boys. Its just a wide body, don't get rose coloured glasses lads.
Ralph,
The boys at VB will love those guys!
EK just got 14 weeks pay as a bonus!
Just the facts.

Don't believe for a second that VAus drivers will be allowed to head back to VB or PacBlue for FO or Capt slots, it'll never happen. The new VB EBA only allows transfer between VB and VAus to existing VB pilots. So if you join VAus as an SO or FO be prepaired to stay in that position for a long, long, long time.
The quickest way to get a comand at VAus is to join VB as an FO now! because that's where the line starts!

Monster,
VB EBA states,
"Nothing contained in this agreement will prevent VB from hiring people external to the business on aircraft types within its Australian domestic operations once is has complied wity clause 4.1.1."
4.1.1 states that the jobs shall advertised internally, applicants will be given relevant details on experience needed for the aircraft and base location. Internal applicants will be given priority over external applicants, PROVIDED THE INTERNAL APPLICANTS HAVE THE REQUISITE SKILLS, PERFORMANCE HISTORY AND EXPERIENCE.
Now this clause is wide open to interpretation my friend. Cruise or Line FO living in Sydney working for V Aus, no VB pilot wants a Sydney EMB command, bingo my friend, your ON! Its in the agreement and we voted for it. Hook Line and Sinker! I would not be passing up an EMB command now boys. Vb have found a vehicle to crew its EMB fleet (captain positions) with experienced overseas FO's. Cx 777 FOs who have applied to V AUS were told this is the case. Be warned!

So after a stint as an S/O at Voz, if one is lucky, one might be offered a right seat at Pacblue or DJ! Time frame, who knows? Also, will the lucky candidate then be required to buy a 737 endorsement for the privilige?
Lots of unanswered questions guys!

It's pretty sad when we have to include super and allowances to make the pay look better.
Funny nobody mentions Dragon as an alternative, only EK.
KA f/o base pay plus house purchase allowance 130,000HKD/month, I'll leave the math to the smarter ones ( oh, didn't inc super coz there is none )

Fooey,
You forgot the gratuity, family travel allowance and CNY bonus.
But we don't include this because it is fully expended!! The stuff you mentioned is what we bank on putting away.

So lets put this in perspective,
Ive been offered a interview for a job that :
1- has no certainty on cruise f/o payscale which to start with is approx 20k below industry average.
2- has no progression within the company to which you are bonded.Thats the biggie!!!!!
3- no employment contract to base your decision on conditions / lifestyle.
4-Willl be employed b4 the company has fo's captains or even aircraft.
This really is a huge concern. What the hell are we doing ,bar single blokes with nothing to risk to take a job with this much uncertainty really is a BIG Risk.
