Time to run a lap?

Perspective of management, maybe you should take a look at the Big M's achievements. (and others up there)
The Sydney Monorail, he left that in great shape!
RR Engine Line Sydney, sourcing engine os now because it can't cope too
CFM JES (Joint Engine Services?) Tullamarine which Virgin have pulled out of because for nearly 3 years and since its start it has never produced and engine with a serviceable margin. Thank God for derate and newly extended runways to cover it up! (Dont forget this come at the cost of the old engine line which produced engines that exceeded new specs)
With all that preparation for the grand finale of
Aircraft Customer diService and incompetence and inability.
We will also, never forget the Camp Crusty phenomenon and the $100000 camping trips, for what!
Well done M
Cost are down but now I guess there about to explode? Anyone for OT?
Reliability does it matter, I guess it does?

A management restructure at QF would go a long way..Never seen a company operate with so many senior staff positions.Look at ADL line maint for instance, on a day shift doing nothing but kicking tyres they could operate with 2x DMM's, possibly 3 if the international DMM is rostered on, 2 Senior Lames, possibly 3 if the international Senior is rostered on, the state manager and whoever else thinks they are worthy.A possible 7 bosses looking after the remainder of guys/girls rostered on.Usually another 4, and they are normally LAMES signing for there own work anyway..Let the dead wood go, then restructure before QF that used to be a great place to work is lost....Or is it already too late...Too many chiefs and not enough indians

More and more slide their way off the tools into the vortex of "secondment" or as it should be named the "ACS Work Avoidance Programme" these wannabe managers and brown tounges, with 30 people seconded from ACS in Sydney alone is it any wonder the problems with dispatch reliability? More lean sigma required to sort it all out, more people away from their jobs to run "lean events" pretty soon we will be lean allright..... last one out turn off the lights

Sad thing is that it is the bludgers that will do anything they can to get out of work and on a special 'project' are the ones that are respected by management and given any jollys/promotions that come up.

The troops are at a stage now where they can see the only way to get ahead is to be a suck hole, and as a result most have switched off

The Bne ACS cleanout has been put back a week. Surprise Surprise! Is there just one leader who has any idea how to meet a schedule or have some common sense. They are absolute idiots above. The BNE Work plan committee or whatever they called it took about 2 1/2 years of 5 men out of the workforce and delivered zilch, zero, nothing of value, oh there was alot of overtime for everyone. Not even a roster! So the honourable MH says "Right anyone who doesn't want to be here doesn't have to"......pause "oops"

When will someone with an ounce of commonsense, communication, planning skills and foresight step up to the mark. Upper ACS management is the worst I have seen in my 35years. A disgrace and no one is accountable. Very very disappointing!

ACS Management

Pretty right Black Panther, I worked in Line Maint SYD for 40 years (refuse to call it ACS and thank God I am retired).

The joke is that old school managers right back to Gunner, The Neck and The Jet Cadet, etc didn't have an MBA or any other form of tertiary education they relied on the college of life, funnily enough they were very much smarter in how they managed the operation.

The troops felt like they were at home when they were at work (gee, we even had morale) and management actually saw customers and helping competitors as a valuable offset.

You know they will choke on their buzzwords and WTF is a stakeholder doing a lap and what does management bring to intelligent space when they come bearing an empty cranium?

What can these twits with zero Line experience possibly contribute to the future other than absolute chaos. Line Maint is not a "process" it is the blood of the airline.

Once this hubris dies down and a new broom arrives to "get engineering back on it's feet" they will find that the previous regime has been very successful in killing off all of Arthur Bairds legacy, goodwill and the corps of experience will be but a distant memory.

The deliberate dismantling of all things good about Line & Major Maint will be long lamented by those who can actually see past the current financial year.

Rant over.

UPPERLOBE,

It's a bit late ... but a very honourable rant.

Good luck to those offered redundancy, heard that some will go very soon whilst others will be staggered over the next year as AME's and 'lost' licenses come on line.

I'd like to know where all these AME's are going to come from..... with the prospect of no training and a brick wall once you hit grade 9, not a very healthy career prospect. You can earn more money driving fork lifts and you don't have to work shift work, this is why Q Engineering are hemorrhaging AME's at the moment.

There appears to be a concern that the VR's earmarked for latter release dates may be not eventuate. Some guys have a 12mth lead time. Where do they stand if nothing has happened by 18mths? How are the stage 2 Melbourne VR guys feeling, any firm dates yet?

While the new roster for BIT looks like it is over the line thanks to a clever ploy not to change BDT roster thus eliminating them from a vote. I am still hearing local complaints that they didn't screw the BIT guys enough so they could supplement night shift labour on overnight BDT checks. It is sad to see cohorts who want there cake of 44% shift penalties and still want to screw there brothers in some fashion. I say good luck to the BIT guys, they are have 10% less in penalties which will see them home by 2am. I wish we had of changed here.

The ability to source AME's will prove difficult. Junior AME's doubt this plan will work due to roster, pay rates and a plan to keep AME's as AME's for an extended time thus keeping labour costs low. The AME's are also not too pleased about a 5 on 3 off DDDNN roster however a lack of numbers and union involvement may prove there protests insignificant.

Then there is the other argument that will the cleanout of highly licensed LAME's work in the long term. The One man transit is used on QF 737, 767 and NZ aircraft however as soon as a defect occurs (incoming or during transit) a second man is seconded. This practice thus nullifies the great MA's abuse as the in-trade man is usually called. The MA's is fine for minor lamps and fixes and the heroes will continue to do avionic work for zero dollars but in the long term the alternate trade will always be required whether it is mech or avionic. So the manager will walk down the path of retraining the lost licences and guess what, in 7 years time we are back at square one!

AME's new roster

Hi Black Panther. Re: AME’s new roster: Isn’t it correct that when an extended hours roster is involved, the majority of affected staff must agree to work it? What do you envisage happening if the AME’s there do not agree to their new pattern? Which is, by the way, a pretty atrocious looking roster. As I understand it, the AME’s didn’t even get to have any input to it…
