Yet another pearl of wisdom from Twiggsy/the office

so why the fuss now?
Most observers would say perhaps it is because 2 of the latest recruits have just been paxed home because they can't handle the job.

Yet again we see those in the office saying "so why the fuss now" because they have stuffed up the selection process and are doing the time honoured maneuver called 'cover their 'bum'.

Cabin Crew Management AKA Ideologically driven cretins..............

The problem being of course that no one was promoted based on the ability to demonstrate "operational ability", experience or leadership qualities.

The SOLE prerequisite for "anointment" was the ability to demonstrate a pathological willingness to ingratiate themselves with the operationally clueless, office dwelling buffoons who run our department.

BOS desk, training, product centre etc. These candidates with the exception of one had all been involved in ground work.

How novel an approach it would be, to promote based on a long term ability to demonstrate the skills needed to actually work effectively ON AN AIRCRAFT.

As has been said many, many times.

A LARGE element of them were set up to fail from day one.

Another point to raise in this "so why the fuss now?" issue is safety.

If the new appointees can't handle the stress of the IFE falling over then how would they handle other problems such as a medical emergency or a violent pax or any emergency for that matter.

If they do face painting over at VB then thats what a certain manager should stick to.

Let's see if they can find some of the old cabin crew managers and bring them back.

Angry Sorry Lobeee

Too old,and could not be bothered.
Got a SMSF to look after now, more responsibilty and less stress even after the last few weeks.
Those who dont learn from mistakes are bound to repeate them.
It proves that the standard of "Bum Sniffers" has declined along with the standard of "Managers!!!!!"

capt.cynical....I know what you mean.

My comment though was largely facetious as most of us remember having little faith in any management during our time.

Sad isn't it but to think it may have gone down further is gut wrenching.

Mr.Paxing:Domestics + Twiggs

Bluecoat to FSD in 12 months only started occurring LH a few years ago.
It may have happened in the domestic situation 25 years ago...but never ever in LH.
You had to have several years experience as a Senior Flight Attendant before even considering applying for a promotion.
Twiggs there is fuss now because individuals are failing after two weeks.
That has never happened before

Let's try and look at this from the visitors point of view.If the so called managers in the office are useless then you would not want to recruit CSM's that actually know what they are doing. They certainly do not want people they are supposed to manage knowing more than they do.
So they pick out crew that are no better than themselves.
No wonder they come out with lines and questions like "Why the fuss now"

Mr.Paxing

This did not happen 25 years ago.
It is a recent occurrence.
The most junior person ever promoted(circa 1983) to FSD was a Mr. Tony.Mc who had been flying eleven years when promoted and then spent the next
16 years having people jump over him when they were promoted.
In effect his seniority in category went into reverse.
If anyone wants changes to seniority it should be to category senority.

These individuals that are ALLEGEDLY failing after two weeks have not risen to CSM within 12 months. The last CSS upgrade was much more than a year ago.

Twiggs....I'll give you a hint...

Don't try to dig yourself out of this one as you'll only make the hole deeper.

And then look even more ridiculous.

Pity,Understanding,Not Ridicule

Twiggs appears to suffer from a disability that prevents her from separating concepts and ideas.
Twiggs for some reason sees everything as intertwined.
Most people can compartmentalize concepts.Twiggs has difficulty with this.
Read all her retorts and they are a jumble, have no logical sequence and are confused in structure.
Rather than be ridiculed Twiggs should be recognized as having a cognitive disability.
We should all be more understanding tolerant and accepting.
Please bear this in mind when responding to her posts.

Yada Yada Yada

Name please Mr Paxing
Nine months in the flying job or 9 months as an SFA?
A one off(if it did occur)does not vindicate your argument or position.

I'm sure there have been anomalies in the past but I have never heard of 2 recently appointed CSM's paxed home and unable to work.If true then not being able to handle the job so soon after training is a definite worry.

This points to failures in both recruitment and training. There have always been people who slip through the net but they are picked up in training.

The other point is that I can't remember hearing of a successful applicant resigning from the course as was the case this time.

Actually...

Nick C had a little panic attack and absented himself from his crew on slip in MEL.
Went back to Syd...just didnt tell anyone.
He was on line when this happened...not in FSD training.
How do I know?I was on the crew.

Re fast promotions to FSD..Fella called Ed D joined 68 ..was certainly an FSD in 77..maybe earlier. At that time I think he was the fastest promotion; Barry B may have been just as quick.. but plenty followed in the late 70s and early 80s with ten or less years in the job!
During the same period, the required time spent as a senior or CSS varied from 2 years to 6 months minimum, and it continued to fluctuate till at least 1990.
But 2 newly appointed CSMs pax home unfit?? what's going on out there?

As I said there are anomalies in every job.Perhaps there were some who were in the right place at the right time. The introduction of the 747 in the late 70's certainly helped.

Recruitment in 78/79 was huge and if you were in the right spot at that time you had a grin on your face very little could wipe off.Expansion of the fleet during the 80's then increased these spots.

Some of the FSD's at that time were a bit different and had their quirks but to pax 2 home and base them in the office so soon after training is a worry. That is if it's true and not another of the myths that abound in this job.
