Nothing my end yet.

Has anyone been told they haven't been successful in progressing any further?

Nothing yet, looks like AsA have started the experienced ATC recruitment too. Could mean HRs bogged down atm

ElFynn1214 5th February 2018 08:27

Yeah I did see that.
Let's hope it's something like that. No news is good news they say.
Best of luck!

Anyone else on here going to assessment day next week? I'm going in on Friday

KupoMog 9th February 2018 10:03

Anyone know how many enroute courses are expected for 2018? I haven't had a call for assessment center either, status just like others "tests completed". Waiting waiting waiting...

Hi,
I'm going down from Sydney to Melbourne for the assessment day this Friday the 16th too.

Will see you there!

Barbs 15th February 2018 04:01

A little gutted that you guys are obviously progressing.

Also a little puzzled as to why the email after completing testing said “we will notify you of the outcome via email as soon as possible” and yet they seem to be contacting by phone first. I’ve been watching emails, as instructed, not phone calls from private numbers (of which I receive several of these a week).

Questions to those who were contacted.
Have your applications been updated at all in the portal or does it still say “under review” like the rest of us?
Has anyone been contacted regarding assessments days outside of this week?

Question to others.
Anyone been told “no” yet?

Just trying to gauge whether I should continue to hold out hope on get on with my life.

Barbs 15th February 2018 05:47

Wow that first line reads really badly. Sorry.

I am actually really happy for the guys who have been contacted. Just a little gutted I’m not one of them.

But in the absence of anything in the negative, there’s still a glimmer of hope I guess.

ElFynn1214 15th February 2018 05:50

I'm in your boat so I can't speak for the people who have progressed to the Assessment Centre already.
I haven't been given a "no" which is great!
I'd say they invited the cream of the crop for this first week of testing. Applications closed yesterday for experienced Tower controllers also, so depending on how many applied for that and/or get through their ability and OPQ testing, may determine how many of us still waiting will be invited to the next stage. They obviously need controllers fairly fast so hiring experienced people over training people from scratch makes sense.

In regards to whether you should get on with your life or not, it all comes down to how much you want this opportunity.

For me, that's huge! I've been trying to get in since September 2014. I was invited to an Assessment Centre in 2016 but the Accelerate Program squashed that on me....

Barbs 16th February 2018 21:02

How’d everyone go this week? We’re there many there each day?

It was a full on but fascinating day.

No idea how we went as feedback isn't provided on the day.

What we did find out was that 50 people made it through to the assessment centers, approx 10 per day. If you didn't make it through to the centre then unfortunately you didn't make it through this round and will have to re apply next time.

Best of luck!

Barbs 18th February 2018 08:44

Nice of them to let us know.

TheSpoonPlatoon 28th February 2018 03:19

Just curious if anyone that attended the assessment centre has been offered a position yet?

Rigby88 28th February 2018 23:13

I attended and have not heard anything since the assessment day.

I ended up changing my day last minute due to a work emergency so I went on the Thursday that week - not the Friday.

Has anyone who attended heard back at all?

khoumery 1st March 2018 02:52

I attended the assessment centre but still haven't heard anything...

I went Thursday aswell, wondering who you are now! Ahah

And haven't heard anything either. Been stressed out for 2 weeks now.

TheSpoonPlatoon 1st March 2018 18:09

I was at the Wednesday assessment centre. Haven't heard anything either but both my references were contacted last week.

harry1216 2nd March 2018 01:00

I also attended the assessment day and yet to hear anything one way or the other.

Have your referees been contacted?

Dip_ATC 2nd March 2018 21:10

Hi all, I was at the Monday assessment centre. My references were called but I haven't heard anything further yet.

TristanFlan 2nd March 2018 21:52

Same boat here. Attended the Monday Assessment Centre and my references have been contacted, but no news from ASA yet. Fingers crossed and good luck guys!

newpants 2nd March 2018 22:25

Looks like we all just need to sweat it out a bit longer. Obviously the biggest worry would arise if others have been contacted before ourselves and that doesn't seem to be the case. So for now at least it's not a no :)

mikewil 5th March 2018 06:29

Anyone know how many they are hoping to recruit in the current round?

Did you guys/gals get to specify whether you were applying for en-route or tower or is it just luck of the draw what you end up doing?

Good luck to all.

Dip_ATC 5th March 2018 07:09

They said they were looking to recruit anyone who had the aptitude, not a specific number.

We did get asked about our preference for tower or enroute but I think ultimately you take the course that they offer. I have a strong preference for tower but would still be very happy to do enroute if given the opportunity.

Dip_ATC 10th March 2018 09:24

Got an email on Friday with a conditional offer of employment, very excited!

Assuming all goes well with the medical and security checks I will be in the En Route course staring on the 9th of April. If anyone else is on that course and wants to swap contact details feel free to PM me.

Jonald 11th March 2018 00:40

Applications

Hi,

Just wondering whether the best way to apply for the trainee positions is to keep checking Airservices vacancies or the 'how to apply' page?

Thanks for your help.

Forrestdude 11th March 2018 07:44

Congrats DIP!! I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic journey. :)

Congrats Dip, hoping i hear from them soon aswell.

Did you get a phone call from them first? and were you given an option of tower/enroute and different course dates?

I do see a few posts up you had a preference for tower so was just wondering how it all happened.

Thanks.

Oddly enough there was no phone call, just an email. And no option to choose en route or tower (although as I said before I am still very happy to get an en route offer). Also no option to choose a different course date.

So far I have only heard from one other person on the en route course so I don't know if they have finished making offers or if there is a tower course too.

NathanFN 22nd March 2018 05:59

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else besides Dip ATC has heard anything?

Forrestdude 22nd March 2018 20:37

Hi there, there was one other on the Whirlpool forums who has received the offer for enroute, unless of course that person is also Dip 🤔

Dip_ATC 22nd March 2018 22:22

Nope the Whirlpool guy is not me, and I have also had PMs from two other people on this forum who are on the en route course so there are at least four of us.

Is it possible that the large number of En-route students suggests a higher staff turnover in this area?

Maybe they don't run tower courses as often for this very reason...

newpants 23rd March 2018 06:35

I've been pretty chilled out about this the past couple of weeks, but starting to get a bit anxious, especially because they did contact my references 4 weeks ago.

I just want to know if i've been accepted or not, mainly because its hard to get the idea out of my head of making the big move to melbourne, and a whole lot of thought process could all be for naught.

Has anyone been offered positions other than the April 9th enroute course?

le Pingouin 23rd March 2018 12:55

mikewil, maybe there are considerably more en-route than tower controllers?

LeonidasM 25th March 2018 22:55

Hi all,

Been lurking here for the past week or two but figured I might as well join the chat. I attended the Friday assessment centre in February but I too have not heard anything since. My referees were also contacted the week after the assessment centre.

In the interview I gave a strong preference for Tower however stated I would just as happily take enroute if it was offered. Didn't feel I went my best at the assessment centre but don't think I did horribly. Will find out soon enough I suppose.

austinlaing 26th March 2018 05:39

Hey guys, young applicant from Brisbane here adding to the discussion. Wasn't successful in the online testing stage but received a call today saying I had progressed and was given numerous dates to choose from to attend the Assessment centre stage in Melbourne. I will be attending on the 18th of May. Does anyone have any insight on what to expect on the Assessment day in Melbourne? Any past experience (from this year) would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone been panelled for a tower course yet? There could be a second wave of offers once en-route’s sorted?

LeonidasM 27th March 2018 02:51

Austinlaing, in terms of the assessment center my best advice would be to get a good nights sleep beforehand. It is a mentally challenging day but honestly was a lot of fun. Trying to prepare would almost be doing yourself a disservice - we really don't know exactly what is being looked for in a candidate so just give everything a fair crack and hopefully you'll be fine.

Maggie Island, it is my understanding that so far only a handful of people have been offered a spot on an upcoming Enroute course. There have been no tower spots offered yet. At the assessment center in February they were definitely recruiting for both roles.

On the day we were told that AirServices was hoping to run two enroute courses and a tower course this year however they stressed that nothing had been locked in so I would not be banking on anything.

newpants 28th March 2018 07:09

YAY!

Finally received an offer today to start in an EnRoute course on the 2nd July :)

Over the moon to finally hear back!

Dip_ATC 28th March 2018 09:29

Congrats newpants!

Strongly suggest you get on top of the medical and security checks ASAP (in our case they were chasing us to get them all done within the first week after the offer). Also be aware that there is some pre-course study to complete before the course starts (they recommend setting aside 40 hours for it and we were give the material 2 weeks before our start date).
