Well I'm really happy to report I too received an offer today - for the tower course starting in July.
Very excited :) |
Thanks Dip!
yeah im aware what the medicals are like, having held a class 1 for commercial flight training previously. And how annoying casa can be with time frames! Luckily ASA have given me plenty of time for when they want the pre-start stuff completed by. I plan on quitting my current job to leave me 2 weeks work free, which should give me enough time to do those studies that you mentioned, however havent been provided with them yet. Good luck! |
And congrats to LeonidasM too!

Some good news coming out now at least! Congrats to everyone. I also just received an offer for the July EnRoute course! Plenty of stuff to sort out in the meantime
|
How is everyone going on the Enroute course that started in April? Does anyone know if the Tower and Enroute course starting early July are fully booked? Also is it possible that the successful applicants from this months Assessment Centres would start on a course at some stage in 2018? Cheers. |
We are going well; about half way through the first chunk of theory now.
Last we heard, the July courses are not yet filled. Unsure if this round of assessments is for July only, but they have indicated at least one more course for this year after the July start. |

But i'd also go out on a limb and say that there is a good chance those being assessed/interviewed this month very much have a chance of starting on the July courses. |
Okay thanks. |

G'day guys,
Just putting it out there since I've read offers for accommodation in the past, as well as advice that it's better to live with your classmates; I am moving interstate to commence the ENR course on the 2nd July. If anyone would like to arrange accommodation together, or offer somewhere, please PM me. Look forward to meeting you all then. Cheers. |
Hey all,
Just thought I'd chip in, I'm attending an assessment day on the 17th. If all goes well, I'd be looking for accommodation within Melbourne too. Anyone know how many more assessment days they are running in this block? Cheers |

Hi, I'm there for mine on the 16th. I think they're running for the 5 days that week. Any one know what the success rate is from the assessment days? Do you have a pretty good chance of being selected or do they only choose the top 10% or something? |

When did everyone who is going to this current round of assessment days actually apply? Is this still from the applications of late last year or have there been new ones since?

Airservices have opened their Air Traffic Control trainee applications again. Closing date is 21 Jun 18.
|
Does anyone know if they are strict on the 10 year old qualification? My qualification just passed the 10 year mark (2007), if they won't accept it whats the quickest qualification I could do for ATC?

Testing
Hi all,
Long time reader here, first time poster. I have recently reapplied for the position with Airservices. Does anyone know what changes have happened with the testing since 2016? It seems aptitude and personality testing are done simultaneously? I recall reading above that you can still be invited to an assessment centre even if you don't pass the aptitude test? Any advice would be appreciated. |
It's still only two chances - hidden away on this page: "You can only apply for this position twice, so if your first application is unsuccessful, you can only apply one more time. Once your application is submitted it will be counted as one attempt."
Trainee air traffic controllers | Airservices Shifts are typically 8 hours with some longer, some shorter. Console time depends on how busy it - when quiet it might be 60 on 30 off, when really busy it might be 150 on 30 off, but 90 on 30 off would be typical. Night shifts are a different kettle of fish and some towers are single man at least part of the time so you're it until your relief arrives. |

The clause is "ATCs should not work more than 2 hours without a break but must not exceed 3 hours without a break, except in extraordinary circumstances....". It doesn't specify how long a break should be - 3 x 10 minute breaks between 2 hour stints obeys both rules.
|
The hours worked without a break isn't really an issue, at least in Melbourne Centre - working in excess of two hours is unusual. The numbers have improved but there are still plenty of us in our 50s, so heading out the door sooner rather than later.

I am not sure if there are any "changes" as such to the testing. But the type of questions for each domain MIGHT change. For instance, one could study spatial tests with 3d cubes (because they used these in the test on the applicant's first attempt) only to end up with a different spatial test using rotated shapes, if that makes sense.
If you're not aware already, the tests involve verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, numerical calculations, spatial reasoning and checking tests. On successful completion of this, you will be invited to complete the OPQ (occupational personality questionnaire). To my understanding, you will only go to the assessment centre if you pass both the Online Ability Assessment and OPQ. Feel free to PM me and I'll link you some of the sites I am doing practice tests with. Thanks for the advice, tried to PM you but it won't let me unfortunately. Hi Guys
I'm on the July en route course and moving over to Melbourne from interstate soon. Would be great to hear from anyone on my course. If anyone is looking for accomodation please let me know. I keep hearing it is a good idea to be with people on course. |
June application
Hi! Anyone else applied in June and was invited for the online assessment? |

So finally sat and completed the online testing tonight. Anyone have any idea how long it took for Airservices to let them know whether they'd passed or failed?
I kept in contact with one person who's been very helpful. She quoted it took 5 weeks for Airservices to update her on the outcome... |
Testing
Hi all,
What we're people's thoughts on the testing? Anyone not yet completed it? |

I completed the online testing and checked on Thursday night - my message had changed to something along the lines of "you have been invited to complete the OPQ testing". When I logged back in on Friday, it had changed back to "Under Review".
I think that maybe with the mix-up with the link and the extension from the Wednesday to the Thursday deadline that there might have been some issue in the internal system. Hoping that we hear something soon! Good luck everyone else |
Hi folks,
I checked online, my application status went from 'Online Testing Completed - under review' to just 'Online Testing Completed'. Anyone know if this is good, bad or nothing important? |
My one was never under review...it has been showing completed with a message saying..."you will be invited to the next stage of Opq's assessment in the next few weeks. Please ensure your email address is updated and correct."
no clues how long gotta wait though ..someone in this thread wrote 5 weeks 😂 |

Does your still say "under review"? I checked mine and it says "online testing completed". Whether this is any indication of passing, I do not know.
This is the same message that I saw on Thursday evening, so hopefully it is an indication of passing, guess we'll see via email. |

Mine also says testing complete and when I view my application there is a message saying I'll be invited to compete the OPQ assessments within the next few weeks.
This is the same message that I saw on Thursday evening, so hopefully it is an indication of passing, guess we'll see via email. My previous application from some years ago states 'Application Outcome', when I view application for that one it states something about reviewing the email they sent me. I am quietly confident it is a good sign. Airservices recruitment seem pretty on the ball with the whole process and maintaining records and if you read the comment it seems pretty clear (verbal reasoning anyone?). Is there anyone on here that has applied who can see something different? |
Thanks but did they just take out the phone interview stage? Or is it still there. Their website doesn't mention anything about the phone interview.
|
They definitely removed the phone interview for the last few rounds of recruitment (instead they had an in person interview on the assessment day in Melbourne).
|
Assessment Centre
No email, but I received a call, brief phone interview and off to the assessment centre at the end of the month. How did everyone else go?
|
Was the call from a private number out of curiosity?

That's interesting that you haven't done the OPQ yet. Is this the 2nd time you've applied and thus completed the OPQ sometime in the past?

Across 2 forums, yours is so far the only report of any feedback or progress after the online testing. So now you've just made everyone even more anxious than they were already :p *goes and checks phone and email another 7 times * |
