Passed stage 1 much to my amazement. Only completed 41/50 in the diagraming and 30/40 in the cubes.

The best advice IMO is to relax. I booked my test about 4 weeks in advance as i was coming from Ireland.
I didn't read the test material until the week before. Read it a couple maybe 3 times that week. Once the night before and once the morning of the exam.

I was confident with the maths questions. If you have any concept of time and speed i wouldn't even worry about them.

There was a couple of distance questions but fairly logical stuff.

I did the test in the morning of Tuesday the 29th and got my invitation for stage 2 on the 31st
At the moment there are only 2 dates this Friday 8th and next Wednesday the 13th.
Anyone know if they give more notice than that as i flights can be fairly expensive at such short notice.

Jccb9 5th February 2013 20:30

I know this has probably been asked about 230213403040 times but I've got my stage 1 next week and was wondering a few things, what do i wear? smart casual, smart? And what to expect in general?

Would really appreciate any feedback!

TimeLady 5th February 2013 21:35

I got through to Stage 3 also - you aren't by chance going to Swanick this Thursday?

I have no idea what to expect, it's a little disconcerting.

sambatc 6th February 2013 13:49

so, I got the call yesterday. Made it past Stage 3 and I've received a conditional offer :ok:

Well worth the wait! 2 1/2 years since I first applied (this was my 2nd attempt) but I don't care anymore! :}

anybody else penciled in for the May course?

Kimmikins 6th February 2013 15:14

sambatc

Congratulations! It's a great feeling isn't it :ok:

Jof_1999 6th February 2013 17:19

May course

Samba,

Well done its a brilliant feeling isn't it. I am possibly on the May course and if not the next one so either way I will be seeing you at the college.

Cheers,

Jof

sambatc 6th February 2013 18:44

sure is!

is there a facebook group for the May course yet?

malakajin 6th February 2013 19:37

Is it only 1 group per month?

Crazy Voyager 6th February 2013 19:42

The course start dates and places on them depend on how many people NATS want. This was also the reason the application process was halted, no business need.

malakajin 6th February 2013 19:43

Thanks Crazy! To be more specific I was interested in how many groups were formed since november last year and the present day ! Thanks

MrOneTwo 6th February 2013 20:33

Anyone else attending Stage 1 in Bham on 22nd Feb?

sambatc 6th February 2013 20:51

malakajin - if you look on NATS' website, they say they usually run 4 courses a year, starting in Jan/Feb, Apr/May, Jul/Aug, and Oct/Nov.

P Wilson 6th February 2013 22:17

Hi All

Quick question regarding airspace. I've condensed the notes given in the revision file to some bullet points, as I'm sure most do. And I also looked up online the different airspace classes and made some notes on them, too.

I'm just revising them at the minute, and I notice that in the document provided by NATS, it says that Class C extends from FL245 upwards. However, according to Wikipedia, it says that Class C between FL195-660 where FL245 is where the UIR begins.

Anyone else noticed that? If that question pops up on the test, which is put down? :uhoh:

tooomek 6th February 2013 23:32

it also states at the beggining that from 15th March '07 class C replaced classes A D F G above FL195 in both FIRs, the bit you looking at is regarding to upper air routes extending from FL245 upwards which is also class C airspace.

P Wilson 7th February 2013 03:11

Thanks for clearing that up.

manderson1993 7th February 2013 08:14

@P Wilson

I also found different information on the web compared to what was said in the booklet. However NATS told you that you need to study what was in the booklet so that's what I did. They won't ask you questions where the answer is what was on the wikipedia page.

Just keep that in mind :)

P Wilson 7th February 2013 13:27

@manderson1993

Indeed that occurred to me, but in my opinion there's only one right answer :P

njp 7th February 2013 13:42

Ooh, other Sheffield people for the 21st! Hello! I'm going at 4pm (as I may have to work beforehand - hoping I can swap shifts though as I don't want to be running straight from work to the test!) so I'm not sure I'll see any of you, but hello and good luck nonetheless :)

If anyone could clear up what's good to wear to a stage 1 that'd be great - I'm assuming it doesn't really matter too much though as it's just the tests and not an interview or anything, but it's still good to know what the norm is... I'm planning on going smart-casual, just a dress, tights, cardigan, pumps sort of thing :p

aawallace 7th February 2013 17:14

HI everyone,

I am looking to sit my stage two tests next week and i have a couple of cheeky questions.

Do they still Use the SDM test as i have seen conflicting infomation on this thread? Also, what are the NATS tests? I have been able to familliar myself with the feast and dart tests thanks to wickipedia, However, i cant find any info on the NATS tests.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

PhiltheReaper 7th February 2013 18:02

The NATS tests are the FEAST and DART tests.

Phil
P.S. For those wondering, I have fallen fowl of the NATS policy and can no longer apply until November 2015.

For those interested, it is because their 12 month waiting policy is "imminently" changing to a 24 month waiting policy. Please contact HR for more details.

extalex 8th February 2013 15:52

Hi everyone,

I attended Stage 1 Yesterday (7th) at NATS CTC. Found the first ATC paper to be nice and simple, and the mental arithmetic I had dusted off came in nicely.

As others have mentioned, I was surprised by the number of applicants to fail at this first hurdle. Although confident I had passed the first half, your heart certainly gets beating when they're reading names out at the front.

Stage 2 invite has already arrived, but no dates bookable at the moment. I want to leave it a few weeks anyway and mentally 'zone' before the next onslaught.

All the best to everyone else!

Alex

tooomek 8th February 2013 16:32

I was there yesterday at 1330 as well, got through too but as you said there's no dates available at the moment :(

Sametoyou 8th February 2013 16:35

Congratulations extalex and anyone else who has succeeded so far!

I too attended the stage 1 yesterday (7th) and about half failed the motivational paper. So relieved when we were told we had passed it! I thought the diagramming and the cubes were tough, just as I'd expected.

Thankfully I got an email today inviting me to Stage 2! :)

Good luck to anybody waiting for results!

Sametoyou

phoenix_87 8th February 2013 22:33

Hi! I have been invited to attend stage 1 and i was just wondering if anyone could clarify something for me? Is there a numeracy test aswell as the ATC paper or is it just the ATC paper asking questions about the document they told us to revise? the reasoning im asking is because i keep reading here in the forum that there is a math paper of some sort at stage 1 but today on the NATS facebook page NATS answered in a comment that there is no numeracy paper on stage 1 so i am a bit confused!

Thanks :)

tooomek 8th February 2013 23:07

either of you from 13.30 group?

Sametoyou 8th February 2013 23:11

Tooomek, I was there at the 13.30 tests :)

P Wilson 9th February 2013 00:24

How many people tend to be on these test days? From the sounds of things, could be quite a few.

Sametoyou 9th February 2013 07:35

P.wilson I think it must depend. I've read others talk about 30-40 people attending on the day and others not so many. At the group I went to, we had quite a small class with little more than 15 people! :)

extalex 9th February 2013 08:45

Congrats to you two, and any others who got their Stage 2 invite.

I was there at the 1130 group, so wouldn't have bumped in to either of you. Our group was quite big, about 30-35 but this was reduced to about 12 after the first paper.

Alex

tooomek 9th February 2013 12:06

@Sametoyou,

I was sitting in the corner on the windows side, blue shirt, you? might bump into each other on S2 :)

Sametoyou 9th February 2013 13:10

@tooomek

I think I might remember you! I was the the girl in the middle of the second row from the back (the row made up of only girls after the motivation paper, if I rememeber correctly!) if that makes any sense!

Richard H 9th February 2013 16:25

So, I just submitted my application online.
Fingers crossed!

Kimmikins 10th February 2013 11:01

I'd email HR and ask them. There is (as far as I'm aware) always a motivation paper to start the assessment day.

sambatc 10th February 2013 13:03

this blank link you're clicking on... what does it say? That might give you a clue.

tooomek 10th February 2013 14:15

NATS calls it ATC paper and you must have a document under 'Test materials document' link which you have to prepare from. It's clearly explained in the email.

jhpic 11th February 2013 10:52

Hello, applied over the weekend for the position. Received an email inviting me to do the online test this morning. Did the online test - averaging between 19 to 23 out of 25. So took the test, and think I messed up on one section, so i reckon I got 5 or 6 out of the 25 wrong.

Does anyone know of anyone that has failed the online test? Is it really a low pass mark? Reckon I got 75% ish.

Thanks.

tooomek 11th February 2013 11:30

booked in for S2 on 27/02 - anyone attending?

Sametoyou 11th February 2013 12:06

Just scheduled in for S2 on the 27th too!

extalex 11th February 2013 14:47

I'm considering it, but not sure If my month's wages can stretch to another trip down to Southampton in the same month!

Alex

jhpic 11th February 2013 17:17
