GAPSTER 9th January 2013 22:23

ARN = Stockholm Arlanda I think.Skål

malakajin 9th January 2013 22:25

@ARN

I'm not bragging about anything . The first part from day 1 is reciting as a robot something which is written in a booklet . Anyone with motivation can do that . If i had past all 3 stages then yeah i would have been very happy bout myself but still woudn't brag . ARN in my list is Angorarn , Papua New Guinee . Think IATA does't respect the unicity rule.

GAPSTER 9th January 2013 22:29

Brag when you're a valid ATCO mate...Not really the done thing though. There yet?

ARNSpoty 9th January 2013 22:35

We all tend to brag sooner or later. It's not easy, i am aware of that.

@ GAPSTER - who is bragging, apart from you tough ego?

GAPSTER 9th January 2013 22:37

This is great!

malakajin 9th January 2013 22:47

there aren't bad or good jobs . there are only jobs done good or bad . i woudn't brag even if i was a valid ATCO . i figured where your gap is GAPSTER

ARNSpoty 10th January 2013 09:56

Guess thats a fair statement.

Lion Tamer 11th January 2013 16:28

February selection

Hello to all,

Is anyone going to Stage 1 on 11th of February and maybe staying in Premier Inn from 10th?

Good luck to all who will have interviews in this month :)

LT

aawallace 11th January 2013 20:49

No I have not heard anything yet. Why do you think people have had results back? I have not seen anything on here yet. It's been a long nervous week!

oLib0b 11th January 2013 21:23

I've had results from 7th Jan.. :P

Sametoyou 12th January 2013 07:13

Hey all, good luck to those sitting the tests or waiting on results!

Anybody going to the Stage 1 on 7th of Feb?

The Many Tentacles 12th January 2013 08:08

For the sake of my sanity I hope some of you don't make it to live training

sambatc 12th January 2013 09:19

olib0b - you must be better than everyone else. congrats...

20th and 21st of January

Anyone has any stage scheduled for the 20st of January (sunday)? If so, please pm me, I'll be driving on the 20th towards Fareham and I'll cross the euro tunnel, so I can go south though the coast or north through London. If someone needs a lift, let me know. Also, if someone will spend the night and is looking forward to have dinner it would be great too. On the 21st I'll do the return way, so please feel free to drop me a line if you need a ride to somewhere. My return schedule and route is as flexible, so I can drop you off wherever needed, even if just a portion of the way such as Fareham-Winchester.

Good luck to everyone going through the states. :ok:

Sdanny 12th January 2013 18:55

Hey, I have one question before blindly applying as an trainee ATCO for NATS . I am from Romania . Romanians MUST obtain a working permit to work in order to work in the UK at the moment . In the application process I was asked if I have the right to work in the UK . Considering the fact that my working right is conditional ( meaning i have to obtain a blue card to have free rights to work there ) am i eligible to apply ? Sorry I haven't contacted HR about this matter but they seem pretty busy at the moment due to high number of applicants . Thanks

Crazy Voyager 13th January 2013 10:38

AFAIK you must be eligable to work just to apply, so before you have the permitt you can not apply, as I've understood it.

Then again, the only people who can answer it 100% is HR.

And have they started stage 1s during weekends now? I wonder who the poor person who'll have to come in on a weekend is...

manderson1993 14th January 2013 13:05

So... how is everyone going with the booklet material? I'm in on the 24th for Stage 1. Feeling pretty good about it at the moment, just trying to memorise all the aircraft (any tips?).

aawallace 14th January 2013 13:17

Has any one else had their results back from the 7th?

PhiltheReaper 14th January 2013 14:12

aawallace: I hate to be a killjoy, but the post at the top of that same very page is someone saying they have so..

I can safely say: Yes! Some other people have heard from 7th :P

I hope your results were as you wished!

Phil
P.S. On learning aircraft Manderson, it is totally up to your style of learning, but personally i find making flash cards quite a useful revision tip.

aawallace 14th January 2013 15:02

Phillthereaper: Yeah I had seen his/her post on Friday and was just wondering if any one else had heard. Where you there for the morning or afternoon assessment?

jonnnny 15th January 2013 11:02

Is anyone else starting their NATS course on the 25th February? I've been on hold because I couldn't pass my CAA medical in time for the last course date in November.

waterflo 15th January 2013 12:35

Assessment

Hello, Sorry to disturb you but I am hoping you will be able to tell me how the assessment center was and what were the questions asked.

chukyrooy 15th January 2013 13:41

Hi everyone, I am an international student and I was invited for the stage 1 selection Test tomorrow, I have a work permit but it expires early next year, just want to know if this would hinder me from getting the job, dont want to make the long journey from London, only to be disappointed.

Thank you for your anticipated replies

PhiltheReaper 15th January 2013 18:14

This post is unreasonably long, it is addressed only to Chuckyrooy, Waterflo, Johnny and aawallace all other can TL;DR!

Well Chuckyrooy, I would suggest you contact HR with that question. Personally a year is after your potential start-date so I would go for it. But it isn't my decision, so I suggest you ask.

Waterflo, we can't say exactly what is asked at the interview stages, or else NATS applicants here might be disqualified from entry themselves! Best bet is, read as many pages as you can stomach of this thread, people oftne quote "the last 70 pages" however, in reality the last 5 pages here are least are almost completely full of rubbish, so exclude those in your search if you are strapped for time. - There is a wealth of information in this threat, to answer your question.

johnnny, really sorry to hear that mate! I have a stage 3 coming up, and I hope to sneak onto the February course if at all possible. Perhaps I'll see you there. P.S. There is a facebook group I believe.

aawallace, thanks for your reply to my post. I wasn't there on the 7th, just saw your question and tried to help mate.

Phil

@ Manderson;

I’m pretty much in the same boat, extracted every fact, figure and key piece of information from the document and now is just a case of committing it to memory and ready supplementary stuff. Memorising all the aircraft and their attributes is probably going to be the hardest for me (a lot of similar information/numbers with slight alterations, very easy to be caught out).

Feeling okay about the spatial and diagrammatic tests, although one thing is bothering me. A lot of the information in this thread is contradictory (as are most internet threads) but one thing people are astoundingly unanimous on is the difficulty of the cubes/spatial test. I’ve done a number of cube net practice tests and don’t find them hard at all (giving myself 20-30 seconds to answer each one) but that seems to be the bane of many applicants, I don’t want to develop a sense of overconfidence :S

Also reading through the old posts I’m incredibly bitter that the assessment isn’t done in the Tower Bridge Hilton anymore, that would’ve been so amazingly convenient for me :P

chabba18 18th January 2013 15:13

I have my stage 1 on 7th Feb too :)

Question

Hi Guys, Got my stage 1 assessment in Sheffield in 5 weeks, extremely nervous!

I know exact details are not permitted and I wouldn't dream asking but can anyone give me a quick run down of how the day goes?

I am booked from 2pm til 4pm....does that mean the whole assessment is just 2 hours long? I'm sure I had read on here before that it was a whole day affair, have they changed it?

Plannign on setting aside a day to read this whole thread but today is not that day so just something quick would be great guys.

Good luck to anyone sitting any assessments soon.

jbba94 18th January 2013 20:11

Is there diagramming and diagrammatic reasoning or just diagramming in stage one?

I have looked through the thread and some people call it diagramming whilst other call it diagrammatic reasoning, even though they are different tests.

Also, on the practice leaflet, there is only diagramming questions, which makes me think there isn't any reasoning and people have just confused the two.

gurasa 19th January 2013 15:20

if i dont want to work for nats, do they give any diploma or degree or something like that?

GAPSTER 19th January 2013 16:59

No...but if you be sure to tell them before you start I'm sure they'll come up with something

Greendotz 20th January 2013 12:57

This snow is starting to make me nervous :uhoh: Hopefully the trains will be able to cope in the coming week.

GrummanSk 20th January 2013 14:58

Does anyone know how long after you take the online test you get a response?

Glamdring 20th January 2013 14:59

...like a P45.

shaymarriott 20th January 2013 17:26

@garusa -

If you don't want to work for NATS then don't apply... the college qualification is non transferable. And I assure they won't want to pay to train you for ATC if you're not going to try and carry it through.

Mazza128 21st January 2013 22:55

I'm going for my stage 1 assessment 11th feb in Whitely. Anybody have any advice. This is my first attempt. Is it shirt and tie etc?? Also anybody else going on this date??

Glamdring 22nd January 2013 09:12

On the contrary, the college qualification, which is an unvalidated ATC licence & rating(s) is very transferable.

sambatc 22nd January 2013 14:55

I was just double checking driving times on google maps, when I notice they have an entry for NATS at Swanwick centre.

NATS
A Google User reviewed a year ago
Overall: Poor to fair
Disliked: Chairs are uncomfortable and the menu is appalling
either a visitor taking their visit to the canteen a little too seriously, or an employee with a cracking sense of humour :D :E

PhiltheReaper 22nd January 2013 15:04

Mazza128: It isn't technically shirt and tie, but I personally did attend in a suit, and most people at least opt for the smart/casual option.

All the guidance on this should be provided in the invitation email.

Also, as for the help you wanted with regards general tips, the last 30-70 pages of this thread will give you an excellent idea of what you have just signed up to as a recruitment process.

Phil

Mazza128 22nd January 2013 15:43

Cheers phil.

I was planning on shirt and tie. Also Cheers for the advice to look back through the pages if was really helpful. Just been ploughing through the info booklet needed for the assessment. Hopefully starting now will stand in good stead with regards it all staying in there!!!
