conc1845, which stage?

conc1845 17th July 2012 17:32

RossGeller, I'm still at Stage 1 (second attempt). I was held up due to not supplying enough info on my optical prescription but nobody informed me of this. By the time I gave them the info they'd shut the window. A bit annoying!

Rang sereral times today but could only leave messages so going to email a contact now.

RossGeller 17th July 2012 17:40

conc1845, sorry to hear about that. From my experience email is always the way to go. HR is excellent and they are extremely helpful, but also they always have their hands full! I have also called and left messages a while ago, but ultimately, the email is the preferred form of contact. ;) Let us know what you find out for all the others at stage 1 who might be in the same situation.

helichopta 19th July 2012 09:19

Feeling left out?

My guessing is that everyone is being held at their respective stage until numbers are correct. No point waist resources sending 20 people through a test if 50 can do it at a time. Just relax for now...

giveitago 19th July 2012 10:32

Svix - It's pretty much this, there's a little additional thing but it's not that difficult. Of course we're explicitly told not to divulge details at each stage so can't really say much more!
Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum lark so forgive my ignorance :bored:. I am waiting confirmation of a Stage 3 date in August and wondered if there is any more information on the new interview format.

2nd time of applying and waited a long time now for this interview, don't want to screw it up and have to wait this long again!

Cheers
giag

luke12 21st July 2012 07:32

Hey. So regarding stage 1, has anyone been contacted with the details of the online test yet?

T250 22nd July 2012 10:33

luke12,

I haven't had anything apart from standard 'we've received your application' since applying again middle of last week... Maybe they're swamped already!

Gilley 24th July 2012 12:20

I'm still waiting to hear about the online test too, keep checking my email every 10mins!! ;)

conc1845 26th July 2012 21:17

I think I can second what RossGeller said with email being the way forward. HR replied fairly quickly saying my application is still active and I will receive dates once they become available. So to everyone waiting for Online Test results, give it a few days (read: weeks) I imagine.

helichopta made sense with getting the in numbers before opening the test doors!

Zigurat 30th July 2012 09:34

Spectacles and Maths...

Hello folks,

I submitted my application to Nats last week. I wear spectacles but all the info regarding the eyes took me by surprise. SO I sent the application anyway idicating "no glasses". The next day I visited the optician, collected all the numbers, and sent the data to Nats the following day. I have read someone lost the chance because of a similar issue, what are your impressions?

Other than this, has any of you guys sat already to the stage 1 math exams? Could you please specify what kind of exercises there are?

Thank you and good luck to everyone in this pursuit!

RossGeller 30th July 2012 16:37

Zigurat, I don't think you'll have a problem if you sent them the data already. You did the right thing and I'm pretty sure you explained in the email. Now you just have to wait a bit. Worse thing that can happen is to make a new submission. By the way, can't you edit it?

Zigurat 31st July 2012 07:04

Hey Ross! thanks for commenting. Im sorry, I didnt understand, edit? What are you refereing to exactly? (Im new here so im probably missing something :bored:)

RossGeller 1st August 2012 08:36

I don't know how the system is now, but I thought we could log into our applications and edit them, or at least some information of it. Is that possible at all? Did you hear from HR already?

Zigurat 1st August 2012 08:53

I have no idea. I didnt try to reenter my application though... I stuck to the mail they sent me right after filling the application form, so I tried sending there the info I collected afterwards.

No news at all so far.

So, what stage are you in? Is this the first time you apply?

lkrd1 1st August 2012 13:46

Anyone heard anything about online tests yet regarding new applications? I have also emailed hr numerous times with no response at all? It has been about 2-3 weeks since emailin them!!

TR24 1st August 2012 14:52

I applied 2 weeks ago today. Not heard anything yet. Good to know I'm not the only one.

sambatc 1st August 2012 16:06

those Stage 1 dates are gonna sell like hotcakes when they eventually become available....

Stage 2 too I guess...

mts1 1st August 2012 22:30

Just for a matter of hopes does anyone know if HR work in August?. Or should I just expect my reply regarding stage 1 as from September?.

RossGeller 2nd August 2012 06:12

mts1, ehehehehe. Like everywhere else, when people go on vacation the team becomes smaller and can't handle things as quickly. But they work alright.

RossFindlay 3rd August 2012 10:13

Some ATC Situations?

Hello! I am Currently working at an FTO that has recently started training ATCīs...in a bid to help them with their English skills I was wondering if anyone has any situations from your experience that I could use as questions to get them problem solving (thinking quickly in English)? I.E. If īthis` happened what would you do...

Thanks :-)

sambatc 6th August 2012 12:56

nearly a month since applications were re-opened.... I wonder when they're going to send out the invitations to the online basic checking tests, and stage 1/2 dates for those already past the first hurdle?

rachael94 6th August 2012 13:48

oh no

I feel like an idiot! I sent my application off around the 12th July, and thought it was weird that I hadn't heard anything back by now (6th August) so logged on to my NATS account and reviewed my profile. I fixed a grammatical error that I came across then finished the thing off - but I think I've sent off my application again because I received another email from NATS, the same as before, saying that they had received my application! I'm aware that you can only apply to NATS three times, hopefully I haven't stupidly used up two of my three chances! :ugh:

mts1 7th August 2012 11:44

rachael94: Not at all. NATS knows how many times you have taken the tests. The fact that they should have re-sent the email you mention is just as a confirmation of your update. Which is something very far from wasting one of your three chances.

chrisbeckett2004 7th August 2012 17:48

Just put my application in too..fingers crossed..

finchyp1 8th August 2012 10:34

Put my application in almost a month ago now, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with an eye on my inbox all day long! Good luck to everyone when the interviews eventually come about!

Jesseladrian 8th August 2012 17:28

I failed stage 3. Time to overcome throught it and try again!

Sarah_Lou 8th August 2012 18:35

Recent applicants - anyone heard back?

Long shot based on the replies already on here - but has anyone who applied recently heard anything?
I tried to reply to the confirmation email (as it says you can?!) to ask about waiting times, but it just bounced back from the server... :(

Good luck to all with applications in :)

mts1 9th August 2012 19:47

Sarah_Lou: you are not the only one, it is evident they are holding us back. Don't worry. I for instance, one of them, and there are many of us. Just wait till your number comes up unless you see that everyone has been responded except you. My advice is to not bother them with unimportant issues.

Simon89 14th August 2012 01:17

Failed Stage 3, gutted to have gotten so close and fallen short. Ah well, I'll certainly try again once I've had a chance to work on what NATS say in my feedback.

mts1 14th August 2012 14:00

Simon89: Im sorry to hear. If you are so sure you want to give it another go, keep at it!, thats the attitude to have, don't give up!

Frenchmax 16th August 2012 11:06

Hi, I'm FRENCH and new to this forum.
I have completed my registration and now I am waiting for an answer as many of you.
I am a bit concern about my eligibility due to my nationality and diploma.
NATS ask GCSE with grade C or equivalent which should not be a problem since I've got a master degree of engineering.
But what about English speaking/listening ? Of course I speak English but I'am not fluent like people from English speaking country.

Is there some people in the same situation as me on this Forum?

Crazy Voyager 16th August 2012 11:25

As a Swede English is not my naitive language (even though I am fluent).

What you need is an ICAO level 5, NATS will test you for this if you make it through the application process. If you ahve doubts about being able to achive a class 5 maybe you should ask HR to test you beforehand if possible, it may be though that their reasoning is that if you make it thruogh the entire process and interveiw (which is all in English conducted by naitive speakers) you'll manage a class 5.

Frenchmax 16th August 2012 11:45

Thank you for the answer.
Before applying to NATS I tried Skyguide ( almost good...) then Geneve Apron control, but they do not recruit for the moment. However I met them (Apron control) and they assessed my English (I had and interview with an English "teacher").
The guy told me that that English level ICAO is about 4.
I think i can quickly improve it if needed, I just hope I can start the selection then see what happens.

HeaVn 16th August 2012 17:02

Hi Frenchmax,

I'm french as well and i had to take the english GCSE in order to apply.
I've got a degree in engineering as well but according to Nats it wasn't enough... For them, our english "bac" is not equivalent to their GCSE's...
But just double check with them,

Let us know

Frenchmax 16th August 2012 18:37

Salut HeaVn,
This is what I fear, but I still do not have answer from NATS. What is exactly GCSE, did you take only "English test" or the whole certificat (math, history...)?
How long does it take, when or where can I take it..... ?
So you are waiting to take NATS selection too. ?
I didn't find information about online test. Somobody can help?

whitelighter 17th August 2012 07:22

A GCSE is a General Certificate of Secondary Education. Unlike your scholastic system, you get individual GCSE's for each subject.

So you get one for maths, another for English and so on.

The problem with a single certificate you get is that NATS require specific grades for English and Maths, where as all you provide is a general certificate covering all subjects.

If you do need to take the GCSE you will only take one, you don't need to do all subjects as in France

HeaVn 17th August 2012 08:45

No, you only need the english one as our exam covers the other subjects.
I took it just before Nats shut everything down, i was about to apply...
The exam is not long, i think it was 3 hours. You can take it in almost every school, as when, i don't really know. You should contact some of them and sort something out.
Yes i'm in the process as well, waiting for a reply....
On the online test i think you have some mental maths and some basic checkings, i don't know much more.

Hopefully, i'll see you there.

Frenchmax 17th August 2012 13:01

Ok, thank you guy.
In the past, It was possible to download document from NATS website to prepare the selection.
Unfortunalety, the page doesn't exist anymore.
Is there someone here who can send me those documents ?:
test_materials.doc
NATS_Practice_Leaflet2.pdf

Thank you

RossGeller 17th August 2012 14:41

Crazy Voyager, are you sure it isn't an ICAO level 4? I thought 4 was the minimum to be an ATC. Is it level 5 for NATS? Cheers

Crazy Voyager 17th August 2012 16:51

It is level 5, level 4 is the minimum but (this is all of the top of my head, but I'm sure you can look it up in the docs if you'd like) ICAO also says that units that require a higher level may stipulate a level 5 is required, NATS has as I've understood it decided that all their units are complex enough (maybe due to the amount of naitive English speakers) that everyone requires a level 5 or higher.
