Hi, I know this thread is dedicated to the NATS ATC training. Still, I'd like to ask if there is anybody here on the panel for ATC training starting with AirNav Ireland this November or next year?

Though they do seem to be a little faster generally this time round compared to last year:) Best of luck! |

Seems to be quite varied. I heard back in 3 days, but I know other who were successful that waited multiple weeks…

I was unsuccessful unfortunately I'm so disappointed. when I asked what the reason was for being unsuccessful they told me it was because I didn’t have a wide range of examples for my interview. This seems a bit odd to me as a recent graduate I only have examples from either education or work experience and I have a lot of experience in the hospitality/retail sector which I drew from as well as my educational background. It seems a shame but all I can do is try better and maybe get in some relevant voluntary experience |

Has anyone heard about any new upcoming stage 3 dates? The message changed from "no longer available for registration" to "no slots available at this time". This makes me think that either some dates became available or maybe I'm just going insane:ugh:
|
getting through is really about having examples for those questions and knowing what the interviewers want to hear The interview is led by HR and is very formulaic. The aim doesn't seem to be to get to know the candidate's strengths and weaknesses, motivations, assess how they would fit it etc. - it's more like a checklist of competencies you must meet. Either you demonstrate all of the competencies they are looking for, or you don't. The result of the above is that interview technique is very important - I.e. you have to be able to "talk the talk". It's a bit frustrating - IMO the process shouldn't require candidates to be good at HR interviews, but that's the system we have to live with. |

I hope you go for it again next year though! Wish you the best of luck. |

A more open ended and subjective interview where they might ask something like “why should we hire you?” Favours candidates who are traditionally “good at interviews” or “smooth talkers” but maybe are not as well qualified. The recruitment team let you know well in advance that the interview will be competency based so in theory all candidates have an equal chance to prepare some STAR based answers. Of course it’s a disadvantage to candidates with less ‘life experience’ but can you blame them for preferring people who’ve already demonstrated relevant skills for the role… |
Historically trainees who have less life experience struggle more at the college. It’s as much an attitude thing as anything else.
Hence why there is an emphasis on past experiences. It’s not so much “does this person have the skills” as the tests will show that. It’s “will this person have the right approach and attitude to this job”. |
Ultimately it's up to NATS but IMO you have to have a balance. Clearly it can't be too subjective when they are interviewing so many people but recruitment is not an exact science either and the process could allow for some more general questions about motivation etc.
To get to the end of the process without being asked why you applied is kind of crazy. |
On day one of my basic course we were asked what motivated us to apply. In a course of 15+ only one person actually wanted to be a controller while the rest applied because of the salary.
NATS know that as an interview question in this career it’s absolutely pointless to ask as the answer won’t give them any insight whatsoever into the individual. |
Hi does anyone know what number I should expect a call from? I got a missed call today and I’m wondering if it’s them but when I tried calling back it didn’t go through
|
I'd assume it would be an 01489 number given they'd be calling from Whiteley - no idea what the rest of it would be though.
|
Mine was from the guy who led my assessment centre. It was the same number they gave us at the beginning of the day in case of an emergency/reason we'd drop off the call :)

thx for the reply. Can I ask when you had your assessment and if you were successful? Also the last 4 digits of the num that called so I can check
If it was one of the recruitment team calling from their work mobile (it would be if you were successful) then they’ll definitely pick up within working hours. |

I don't really feel comfortable sharing the phone number on the forum - as Retsek said, it will be a mobile number. Give them a call back, their voicemail is a unique one stating their name etc, so you should be able to work out if that was them. I missed my initial call, got left a voicemail, called back and had to leave a voicemail as well. Just try to give them a call. |

Lol yes as Retsek said, I was successful and found out 2 days after my stage 3. My stage 3 was 2 weeks ago tomorrow (2 October, found out 4 October).

Definitely second what you said! It might happen to miss a call, when it happened the person left a voicemail and I got an answer when I called back. So far I've found the communication to be pretty good.

Has anyone who was unsuccessful managed to get any feedback?

For anyone interested- Reddit Thread worth reading where some ex/current employees talk about the realities of the job. Nothing too bad, just some bits you won’t have seen in the promotional material.

Think I will get a stage 3 then ?? I’ve not been told no just yet but also haven’t been told yes.
Thank you for your patience whilst we assessed the results of the Trainee Air Traffic Controller applications. We have had a greater volume of response than anticipated and as such it has been necessary to base progression to the next stage in order of performance at Stage 1 and 2. We will be in contact to confirm whether we will be able to proceed your application as soon as we have undertaken the initial assessment centres. |

The feedback's crucial for me since the interview portion of the assessment was only the 2nd time i've ever done a formal interview so I'd like to know if I got failed because of it or one of the other sections. Hope you find some other employment (at least until being able to reapply next year) ^^ |

Sadly got rejected last week (a week after doing my stage 3 assessment), and have yet to receive any feedback. I emailed them last week as well as today but it seems like they're just very busy with other applicants and whatnot.

I'd like to ask about a particular test, cuz I found the instructions confusing hahaha |

Anyone know what the Cut-E test is called, where you move a shape from one spot to another spot (the exit) by moving other blocks out of the way?

Did anyone get accepted into the college from the latest Stage 3 assessment?

Hi guys, got my start date confirmed as Jan 2025 a couple of weeks ago! I was told I could expect to be contacted by the training team at some point with further information about the course - does anyone know about around when I can expect to hear from them, and what information I should expect? I’d also like to know any tips/info about the course if anyone has any! Thank you!!
