Hi everyone!
I recently sent my off my application form and am awaiting further info. One question: does anyone have any statistics/a rough estimate of the percentage of people who make it through stage1/2/3? I've heard the statistic '3%' a lot but I was wondering where most people fail. I'm sure I'll have more questions if/when I do the interview stages. Thanks, Mike |
hi all
i did my stage 1 assessment yesterday... very confused about the results... when can i expect them?? and well... on the positive end.... how do i prpare for the assessment 2... can someone gimme an idea...??? |
taking abt the stage 2 assessment..
i see from the NATS site that... they are: NATS assessment FEAST battery test SDM but i hardly understand what they mean.. can someone tell me wat they are? is there any preparations that i can do to make myself competent enough... HELP!!! am so serious abt this job... any help would be most appreciated.. Thanks a ton :):) |
well, I just took the online test and I think i completely cocked it up.
This is made worse by the fact that I got so close to getting in last year and this year I even paid for a CAA medical out of my own pocket to prove that my eye sight was up to the required standard. So very disappointed with myself. :( |
Online test...
hatemyjob...
Firstly i love the Name, Very true :ok: Dont be dissapointed!! you could have done enough!! I have to take my online test this week sometime...:confused: What is it all about? what did you have to do?! chin up dude... W_W |

Well Notnek, I don't know whether my example is similar to others but when I did my first assessment at the end of June there were 15 of us to begin with. However, after the ATC Test and the Numeracy test EIGHT of the group were sent home. So that is over half of candidates are sifted out in the first 40 minutes of assessments! From that statistic I would think that a success rate of 3% is very reasonable. I have my second assessment on August 10th down at Fareham so fingers crossed! "i did my stage 1 assessment yesterday... very confused about the results... when can i expect them??" WbATC, I took my first assessment on the Friday and got an email the following Monday week (6 working days later) asking me to complete the on-line Personality Test. I did this on the same day and the following morning I had an e-mail inviting me to Assessment 2. |
Thank you so much ClaretDave
Do you have any idea abt the stage 2 assessment??? i heard that there would be Collision Avoidance Test... wat is it all abt?? |
All I know about assessment 2 is that you can't really prepare for it. I saw something on Wikipedia that gave a brief idea. Like the earlier assessment I guess it is designed to test the areas that are deemed to be important strengths in order to succeed in becoming an ATC. Problem solving; logical thought processes; and reaction times for instance. I dont know anything about a Collision Avoidance Test but one of the 'games' on the NATS website seems to test that to an extent - I managed to get to level 6 before my birds started falling out of the sky :(

online application
Hi, I'm new to this I have already read a lot of this thread but haven't been able to find what im looking for.
I applied to NATS at the beginning of June and took the online checking test as requested by them but I haven't heard anything back for over a month now, is this a rejection or is it normal to wait this long? In the email i received, next to my name was a number over 10000 does this mean where i'm placed in the queue to hear from them or is this just a number? I'd be grateful if anyone can help me on this as I'm eager to get myself in :) |
You mean the pre-stage 1 test? A month is definitely too long for that, either email them or reapply.
|
Hi all,
I have my stage 3 assessment next month, I am looking for any information on what I should study and expect in the interview? Any help would be much appreiciated. Cheers |
@magicsticks
By any change is your stage 3 on the 19th Aug at Prestwick? If so you will see me there :) |
Statistics & stage 3
Just a quick reply to whoever was asking about the numbers that pass.
3% or so of those who start stage1 make it through to the college. However, be prepared to then lose some of your coursemates during that time to. As a rough idea, out of our course of 29, only 5 made it all the way through the college without needing to re-take one (or more) courses. Of the remaining 24, half were chopped along the way. If you get to the college, then you can feel happy to be one of the chosen few, but make sure you then work like hell to keep it that way. Regarding stage3, the interview is as you would expect any interview to be - strengths, weaknesses, examples of life skills, how you worked with others etc etc. Read up on everything you have been sent, and be prepared to put over just why this is the job you want, and how your skills reflect why you would be good at it. Good Luck! |
Does anyone know if there is a general emotion from the people that don't get through the training course? Is there a lot of regret or are most people glad they did it?
Also, are there related jobs which a lot of failed trainees choose as a career or is it mostly ' back to square one'? Mike |
Stage 2 results
Did anyone attend Stage 2 yesterday at Fareham? Anyone got their results yet?

There isn't a dress code for stage 1, it's very informal.
|
Dress code is smart/casual. It's in the e-mail.
I have my stage 1 at Prestwick on the 10th September. :D |

How many days would I really need to get myself prepared... so that i can schedule the date for the stage 2 accordingly? Thank you, |
mmcg, I must have missed that, but at my stage 1 there was people ranging from suits to a hoodie. It's not something you're going to be judged on.

Hi,
Re the S1 motivation paper - I've read posts from a lot of people on this thread which say that you need to learn every detail of every aircraft in the PDF but one person said that this is going too far and you can estimate on the day. I have a feeling that this is not true? I could learn every plane detail off by heart but I don't want to if it's not necessary. Mike. |
thanks
thanks wbatc, good luck with ur stage 2!!

nats stage 1
i have my stage one tests on the 23rd of sep which gives me approximately 2 months to study is this time enough to get ready for the stage 1 tests... i have done a few spatial diagramming tests and get most of the qusetions wrong :(. could anyone guide me on wht books i could refer to
thanks tushar |
Two months should be ample time tkolekar. I took a week to prepare for mine. The thing with assessment one is - you either can do it or you can't do it. The first part is your NATS knowledge from the pdf file. Someone further up doubted how much detail you should learn it in - the thing is if I said just learn the FL's of the different aircraft and they then asked how many seats were in a 747 then I would look pretty stupid - so learn ALL of the pdf and you will be ok. The numeracy test is mainly speed/distance/time calculations requiring a reasonable understanding of basic arithmetic - no calculators allowed. After those two tests - if you have failed them you will be sent home. The spatial reasoning test is exactly as described previously with the cubes. I guess the assessors are looking for accuracy here rather than fully completing the test. If you rush through all 40(?) of the questions in the time required but only get 20 of them right then I would think the assessors would take a dimmer view than if you only answered 25 of them in the same amount of time but still got 20 right. Obviously, to be an ATC you need to get it right a VERY high percentage of the time! The diagramming test will I think be assessed in the same way. If it helps, I think I answered 23/40 and 33/50 on the two respective tests and I was ready to bang my head on the table at the end! - I aint got a clue how many I got right though:ugh:

can you gimme an idea abt the stage 2 assessments?? |
Timings
Hi,
Could someone let me know how long the 2nd stage assessments take? (i.e 2/3hrs?) I live in Southern England however the next assessment dates for centres in my region aren't now until Sep so I'm aiming for Prestwick in a couple of weeks. It would be helpful to know so I can arrange suitable flight travel! Also if I were lucky enough to be successful, would future assessment days have to take place in Prestwick since thats where I undertook initial testing? If someone could advise I would be most grateful! Cheers |
How Long is the assessment day (2nd stage)
Hi,
Can anyone let me know how long the 2nd stage assessment day takes (2/3hrs?) as I need to get to Prestwick however as I live in Southern England I need to fly! Thanks |
thanks
thanks a lot dave that has definately eased the pressure of me a bit i am definately goin to give my 100% towards it hopefully it pays off
kind regards tushar |
@michael2424
It says on the NATS website that the 2nd stage takes place in Whiteley. Is this wrong or are you actually talking about the 1st stage? |
I reckon Michael is getting mixed up. I just checked and all my second stage dates were being held at Whiteley. Maybe he thinks stage one is the online test he did first.
Stage one takes about 2-3 hours by the way:) |
Starting on course 225
Just got a start date for the college!
I'm to be joining course 225 on Sept 29th- which is in only 8 weeks away!! If anybody else starting on that course has any info about accomodation or anything else i would really appreciate it. I'm pretty nervous and would love to chat to anyone that is going to be on the course with me. I and did my stage 1 at the end of November 2009, so it's been about 10 months from applying to getting on a course for me (i know a lot of people ask that question :) Good luck everybody who has assessments coming up (michael2424- the 2nd stage takes most of the day, you do about 2-3 hours of of computer tests, then have lunch, then there is about another 2 hours in the afternoon- i was there from about 9am-3pm if i remember correctly. Very informal though- wear comfortable clothes) |
Azabeth
Hi Azabeth
If you're on facebook search for the group 'NATS 225 aerodrome', there are quite a few people on there who will be on your course. Also, the NATS departure lounge has a list of accomodation on it. As for dress code at stage 2, I wouldn't necessarily say wear 'comfortable' clothes, as different people find different things confortable, I wore black shoes and trousers plus a shirt-smart or casual would do. Other people wore less smart clothes but you always want to make a good impression. Azabeth, have you been pencilled in for the october course for a while or have you recently been moved onto that one? |
Thanks so much for your replys & feedback guys! Silly me, I was getting slightly mixed up! I have allowed pretty much the whole day for the assessments so that should be fine I hope!
|
