What Stage have you got to? If they're asking you for confirmation of results I'm guessing stage 3 (or through?). If I were you I'd call HR and tell them what your result for English Language was...they will find out anyway annnnnnnnd the thing you have got going for you is that it doesn't specify whether English Language or English Lit is needed, so hopefully it won't cause you any problems.

Yeah, I passed the medical on Friday then found out on Saturday that I only had a 'd' in English Language - talk about conflicting emotions! I genuinely thought I had a straight 'c' grade and didn't even realise there were 2 seperate grades - I've applied for several jobs over the years and this is the 1st time I've ever had to produce proof of them.
I'm gonna ring HR in the morning and see what they say - fingers crossed they won't kick me out at this stage! |
Stage one tests
Hi was just wondering, has anyone thats done the stage one tests before been able to complete the amount of questions within the time given or is there not enough time complete them all. Also if theres no time left is it recommended to take a guess for the questions that are left.
Any advice welcome for stage one tests :), Please pm me Thanks |
Hey,
I have my S1 test day tomorrow, i have read a lot of this thread and have a relatively good idea on what to expect. I do have a few Q's, -Do you need a calculator? -Do people dress formally, full suit etc? Also in my research i have been doing i see that you don't actually need a degree to get on to the course, but I have just completed a BSc & MSc in Communications and Computer Systems, will this put me in a better place than the people just coming straight from their a-levels? Cheers, Paul |
Paul I doubt it because I just got on the course and I haven't even got full a-levels.
You aren't allowed a calculator. You can wear a suit but there's not much point because you don't speak to anyone so you have no chance to make a good impressions. Obviously don't turn up looking really shabby though. Helen |
Bird In Control
I remember having it (record of achievement) as I used it as a mouse matt for many years but I have little to no chance of finding it now (4 moves later). I have contacted HR and the lady said a covering letter from my school stating when and what grades I achieved will be sufficient. I e-mailed my school and they will be sending this letter tomorrow so I will let all know if this letter is indeed good enough for NATS.

Hope all goes well whoever was doing testing today. Saw everyone downstairs completing various questionning sheets.

Stage 1 Interview Prestwick
I have my S1 tests on 19th August at Prestwick.
I am glad I have found this forum as there are lots of good tips! Good Luck every 1! Stephen |
Interview Stage 1
Hello all,
Can somebody help me please. Ive been given a few different days for stage 1 interviews but I can not make any of them. What will happen if I decline? Can I simply apply again? If so how soon? How often are these interviews given out? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
you can only apply once every 12 months! So if you cannot make it i believe that you will not be allowed to reapply again until next year!
Hth Darren :) |
calculators are not allowed and although you dont have to wear a suit and you dont really sit down on a one to one basis, i always believe that first impressions make all the difference! So my input of advice would be to wear a suit and be on the safe side! Its always best to go over prepared rather than under prepared!
Darren :) |
byrnemartin81, if you can't make any of the days given, it's best to contact HR directly (contact details should be on the application site). They can usually make sure your application is put "on-hold" until there are some more dates.

Stage 1 tests
Hi, Just read through the forum been a great help... Just wondering does anybody know were to get examples of the cubes that are in the tests nats give you at stage one... Also for anyone thats had to travel from southampton airport to the coperate technical centre.. whats the cheapest way to get there?
Thanks for your help |
Just a question for someone who's been through NATS selection and come out successful on the other side. I imagine that as all the training is paid for, there's some sort of bonding arrangement whereby you must committ to working for NATS for a minimum period. Anyone know how long for?
|
The Mixmaster,
I wouldn't have thought that a past winner of 'The Sunday Times Best 100 Companies To Work For' would need any form of "bonding arrangement". After all. why would anyone want to leave? :E P.S. By the use of the term 'mixmaster' are you someone who reduces music to its lowest common denominator? ....Thump-clap, thump-clap, thump-clap, etc. :} |
Zooker - It's telling that they're PAST winners. When did they feature....1946? Sorry for the facetiousness...can't help it on the pprune.
I take it from your friendly and responsive post thats a NO then mate?:ok: PS. Thump...clap? I can assure you i'm no one man band...in fact that sounds like a rough saturday night out in Plymouth!!:} |
Ahh, Saturday evenings in Plymouth, (EGHD).
HO! HO! HO! :E |
Will do. Cheers for that man.

Sat stage 2 recently.
What a terrible, stressful day! As soon as your sat down, your working, and working and working. Test after test. As the day progresses you slowly become less alert, and by the time the final test comes, your already tired! I assume the last test is the most important though! Anyway, if I have passed I am going to admit there is a God. Ill keep y'all posted. |
Hey guys, has anyone done their S1 and think that Brain Training on the DS would help for the mental arithmetic at all?
|
Hello people. I just like to check a few things. Im at stage one and have been linked an online test is there a time limit on this do I have to do it asap ? is it just a mini stage 1 test ? the only other question I have is the mental arithmetic paper does it only include d,s,t calculations or is there more to it. Thanks
|
Hey,
Just thought I would share a list I made for all the acronyms on the test materials for the S1 interview. MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service I found it helped me revise. Cheers, Paul |
Had my S1 yesterday in Fareham, went ok I think. Everyone was wearing suits or shirt and tie if that helps anyone.
Regarding the brain training on the DS, the maths paper is all caluclations regarding time and distance |
Hey, I had my stage 2 at the coorporate technical centre last monday, I stayed over night as it was too far for me to travel. the closest train station is swanwick, i think its about £6 to the ctc from there, but there is a free shuttle bus back to the station afterwards, just ask the receptionist, she was really helpful.
also, there is a post on page 131 of this forum of links of examples for stage 1. I wish i had seen it before mine, but make sure you get to grips with cubes as they are also in stage 2 aswell! Hope this helps! Good luck!! |
Just a quick question for anyone who's been on a tower/Swanwick visit, are Jeans/T-shirt suitable?
|
Personally I'd go smart-casual - you never know who you might meet or what contacts you may make for the future! Better to make a good impression!
|
Had my S1 today (12:30 group), anyone else on here have theirs?
Good luck and let me know how you do. Did anyone else on here think they did bad or not as good on the cubes but think they did very well on other exams and still get through? Seb |
Can someone please explain cubes to me?
What do you do with the black bits as opposed to the white bits? Many thanks. :uhoh: |
Can someone please explain 'cubes' to me too? :E:E
|
Cubes
Cubes are six sided 3D shapes...
NATS use patterned ones during stage 1. You're shown one 3D cube then given a choice of 5 flattened out cubes, one of which has the same pattern. Choose wisely. Standard spatial awareness test. Simples. |
"What do you do with the black bits, as opposed to the white bits?"
- Simply imagine that you are in "The House of Mirrors, where left is right and right is wrong" ! :} |
no offence salsaboy, i took my stage one on friday 7th august, its actually the other way round!
Your given a flattened out cube with patterns and given 5 pattern 3D cubes to choose from! Be careful though, just cos the cubes are there doesnt mean that one of them has to be right! Yes there is an option to say " none of the above" HTH Darren :) |
None taken Darren, I've never taken the test! Just trying to help.
Hope the clarification helps the applicants though. Cheers. |
Thanks for the replies gents.
Simples. :\ |
here you go! Click on this link and go to number 36 it will tell you exactly what you need to know! :)
http://www.psychometric-success.com/...20Test%201.pdf Darren :) |
If it helps, I have recently taken the 'cube' test, and "failed" miserably! :ok:
|
Noted. Cheers JonathanB.
|
Hey Leanne, I was also at S2 on the 10th, if thats the Monday your referring to.
|
Are many people going on tower/Swanwick visits? how do you go about it and is it worth it pre-S1?
|
No need to do it for S1, did that yesterday. Just learn the sheet they give you. But it shows you are eager! Only way to show that off though is stage 3 when you actually meet someone that cares!
