Hello everyone!

I have a phone interview with Airservices Australia this week and was wondering if anyone know what to expect or what I should do to prepare for it?

Thanks.

Hi SydneyATCLover,

I got the same email, it's a pretty good feeling isn't it! I thought I went ok on the online assessments at the time but you never really know do you.

Good luck with the rest of the process

help needed for assessment centre day

Hi All,

I'm attending the assessment centre day test in a couple of weeks time, can anyone give me some advice on what to expect on the day? On the ASA website, they mentioned about group exercise and briefing exercise, can anyone give me some general guide?

thanks!!!

Well done on getting to the testing day, can't help with that sorry but just wondering how long it has taken you to get this far?

Good luck on the day btw!

Hi,

I received my success email for the online tests on the 18th of May. I completed the OPQ (Personality Questionnaire) on the 27th of May. Since completing the OPQ I haven't received a confirmation email, also checked the website for my application status but nothing is shown. Not sure if I haven't passed or need to keep waiting for a confirmation email?

Thanks

Melbourne hotel near airport

I'm going to the assessment day in August, can anyone recommend somewhere close by to stay, I'm flying in so prefer near the airport. Affordable is also a plus. Thank you in advance

Hi there,

I'm in the same position having not heard anything since completing the OPQ mid May. I'm hoping it's just a delay with processing and not a bad sign.

If anyone who has been through the process recently can give us some feedback on their experience that would be great.

I always thought I was fairly patient but it turns out I'm not very good at waiting :)

Oldbluedog 3rd Jun 2015 12:01

Yes, still waiting here as well. All in good time.

I'm also in the same boat, did the OPQ around the 18-19th of May, haven't heard anything back at all. The status of my application is 'online testing complete'.

pirate5 6th Jun 2015 09:44

it needs patience to get the email for tele interview

to those who did OPQ but havent got emails for tele interview,

I got my tele interview appointment confirmed 2 weeks after OPQ, so it just needs time, dont worry, havent heard anyone failed because of the OPQ.

good luck to all

supersanchoman 10th Jun 2015 06:25

Anyone else still waiting to hear back after OPQ?

Completed the test on the 18th of May and haven't heard anything yet, profile just says "online testing complete".

Born 2 Fly 10th Jun 2015 13:32

I'm in the same position as yourself, still waiting for a confirmation email.

stampin8or 21st Jun 2015 07:35

Hey guys,

I got the call on Friday afternoon letting me know that I got in!!!
You just have to wait for the call. It'll say "reference check complete" forever, and there's no way of knowing until that call.

Then you receive a letter at some point letting you know when you need to do your medical and security. Until then, you just wait.

dingochun 22nd Jun 2015 02:34

Congrats! I'm still waiting for the results of the opq I did mid-may :(
They will definitely let you know if you're not successful right? It's the waiting that's the worst.

Class C medical

Does anyone know what is involved in the class C medical, I've managed to get through all the rest of the testing so far. Thanks

bennett.wildfire 22nd Jun 2015 13:12

I got the phone call on Friday too and my application details have current status updated to "Complete Class III Medical". Med Cert III is valid for 2 years so may as get that asap. Now just have to wait (a few months apparently) for the offer application to arrive and move to Melb.

Know I. Deer 22nd Jun 2015 22:48

Got the call on Friday too! Thinking I'll just sort out the Class 3 medical now considering it's valid for 2 years once you get it, I've already got an ARN.

Lily64 23rd Jun 2015 06:27

The medical's not *horribly* onerous unless you have some kind of pre-existing condition. Even then, quite a lot of conditions can potentially be approved but it may take quite a while and a lot of extra appointments. It's hearing, sight, blood tests (cholesterol, diabetes etc), ECG, mental health, blood pressure, height, weight, reactions etc etc - it's very broad ranging. According to my doctor, they're pretty much looking for any risk factors as well as any condition you might currently have. If you do have a medical condition of any kind, they're also looking at how it's managed. They're very conservative.

It can also take quite a while. The actual medical is about 2 hours, but it's CASA that approves it after their medical officers have reviewed the DAME's report. If there's anything even slightly out of the ordinary, it *will* be queried. eg. I had to provide detailed surgical reports from 20+ years ago (which really wasn't easy!).

Until you get that medical back from CASA, don't assume that you'll get it. I wouldn't do anything you can't reverse until you have a definite start date (which may be many, many months away). You won't get that until the medical's approved.

Cheers,

Oldbluedog 23rd Jun 2015 06:53

What is the date of Canberra ?

stampin8or 23rd Jun 2015 19:52

They'll tell you if you got in or not :)

Lily64- that sounds really intense. I hope that we can get our medicals approved before intake

Know I. Deer 23rd Jun 2015 23:12

Very good point on not doing anything irreversible until medical is passed and offer is through...getting the medical out of the way sooner rather than later so that's another thing done can't hurt.

SecretUsername 24th Jun 2015 00:52

Hello all, first time poster long time lurker here.

I also got the call on Friday! I'm sure those of you who also got it can relate to the relief after living with this application for a year.

As far as the medical goes, you need an "Aviation Reference Number" (ARN), which we'll get in due time. I'm not in any rush.

For those interested, here is a rundown of what you need to pass for the medical: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_reg/casr1998333/s67.160.html

It doesn't look like you have to be an elite athlete, just someone who isn't going to drop dead at the controls.

Congratulations to my new colleagues and good luck to everyone going through the testing now. If you're in the latter group, just remember patience is the name of the game.

stampin8or 24th Jun 2015 01:25

Don't we have to wait for the letter before we do the medical?

Oldbluedog 24th Jun 2015 07:45

Book Phone Interview - Check

One more rung in the ladder.

J.

Lily64 24th Jun 2015 22:06

You'll get an email or a letter asking you to do the medical, and giving you all the information you need about providers and what needs to be done.
Cheers,

Snikeron 25th Jun 2015 02:52

Yeah got the call on Friday too! Have my application status sitting on "Complete Class III Medical" like Bennett.
I'll admit I already got my Class 3 sorted :}, but in hindsight I think I got a little excited with wanting to get everything on my end sorted and out of the way.

I'd say wait until they give you the go to get started - there's plenty of time still, and you don't want to be sitting and wasting approximately half a year of the 2-year validity period (I'll likely have to renew around the end of the course). The medicals are thorough, though not as stringent as that for pilots as far as pre-existing conditions go.

The news so far is that our batch (which at AC was told would start in Aug) is likely to make a start early 2016 (probably Jan), and even the batch in June had to be apparently moved up to October this year.

All the best to candidates in whichever phase! It has and will be a very long process indeed.

JB1991 27th Jun 2015 04:17

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm also one of the lucky ones who received a call on Friday afternoon. If all goes well, I should be looking to start on a tower course early 2016.

To give anyone that is wondering an idea of the timeline so far:
- I applied on the 14th October 2014.
- The required online testing was to be completed no later than the 5th of November 2014.
- I had my assessment day in Melbourne on the 4th of Feb 2015 (there was also a phone interview prior to this).
- Then I finally got a phone call on the 19th of June 2015.

As you can see, it was a pretty long process just to get to this point. From here I still have to go and get a CASA Class III medical.

I'm looking forward to potentially being on course with some of you next year!

stampin8or 28th Jun 2015 07:41

Hi to all who are up to the medical stage! We may be training together soon :)

pedigree_9 29th Jun 2015 02:48

Hi all! I too am I long time lurker, first time poster. I attended the assessment centre day 3 weeks ago and yet my status still hasn't changed from the online portal. It is still set at 'assessment centre completed'.

Can anyone tell me if they waited this long without a change in their status? It sounds like most people on this forum have found out within a couple of weeks from their assessment centre day if they had been accepted or no. I'm hoping that no news is good news....

Any replies will be much appreciated!

Thanks

pedigree_9 29th Jun 2015 12:03

Hi SydneyATC. Thanks for the response. That was a really quick turn around for you. It does seem to be an erratic process given that my assessment centre day was two weeks before yours and I still haven't heard anything and you have. If you don't mind me asking, what did your status change to online?

Thanks

stampin8or 29th Jun 2015 19:08

Hi pedigree_9,

It took 1 month for me to get to the reference check stage.
It then took another month for me to find out that I got in. Just be patient.

pedigree_9 29th Jun 2015 21:00

Thanks stampin8. Glad to hear you were in the same position as me. I'm happy to be patient, I just wasn't sure if I had slipped through the cracks.

Cheers

It's definitely tough when you've got no visibility of what's going on, and when dates are inconsistent :(

sunnySA 2nd Jul 2015 10:09

Relax, I'll think you'd find that other priorities come into play e.g. Recruitment staff attending Assessment Centres which means that other tasks get delayed. There can be sick leave and/or holidays (extra staff wouldn't be seconded to cover), plus some Recruitment staff are part-time. It might be slower than you'd like and it won't change the outcome, you are either suitable or not, be patient, as frustrating as this is.

stampin8or 3rd Jul 2015 07:47

I was just trying to sympathise with pedigree_9. That's all.

All I was looking for was clarification on how long some people have waited which stampin8or provided to me. I wasn't seeking to understand what is happening in the recruitment team. SunnySA, perhaps you should take your own advice and relax.

mmmm, pedigree 9, might pay to keep your mouth shut rather than open it and confirm yourself an idiot. SunnySA might turn out to be your training officer, or even better, your Check Controller ;)
