Has anyone received their letter regarding the process for getting the medical and security sorted?

WhisprSYD 6th Jul 2015 09:08

From my POV I didn't think sunnySA said anything that appeared demeaning.. I read it as genuine advice. As in, don't stress about timelines as there are any number of reasons why information may be taking longer to be dispersed.

For the record when I went through the process (5-6 years ago) it took 18-24 months from application to offer. Patience is the key..

stampin8or 6th Jul 2015 09:16

Fair enough if it wasn't meant that way, but it could have been taken both ways (and it definitely was).

I guess it depends. They're getting a new system so things may slow down a bit.

unique_name 8th Jul 2015 05:51

Enjoying Brisbane this week?

The name is Porter 8th Jul 2015 15:30

My name is Porter- what gives him the right (or anyone else) to talk down to us then? We're all only trying to help each other out on the topic at hand, which is (in case anyone forgot) our recruitment process.
Talk down to you? This is one job where your sense of entitlement won't secure your future. Attitude is a fair proportion of success in this game. Carry on like a ******** and it will be noted, mainly on your training reports. Then again, one would hope that dickheads don't make it through the recruitment process. ;)

The ones offering you good advice are the ones already working as ATC's. If you want to be dumb enough to have a crack at them before you have skin in the game, fill yer boots. They're going to be the ones terminating your training.

Brisbane is great, Especially after the win we had last night. ;) I have my assessment coming day coming up soon and a little bit worried about the maths side of things. I have study pretty hard and can do a lot of it mentally, I just don't know what to expect on the day. Can anyone give me a bit of insight to put my mind at ease?

stampin8or 9th Jul 2015 02:12

Hey unique_name: study your basic maths skills and your 3D shapes- you'll do great, I'm sure!

unique_name 9th Jul 2015 03:24

Thank you for the advice. I'm looking forward to the testing as it seems like a bit of fun. If I get selected, i'm looking forward to the college and study. :) Best of luck to everyone who is going through the same process. :ok:

Lily64 13th Jul 2015 20:40

For those who have attended an assessment day, we were specifically asked not to talk about what the day entails. It would probably be better if the discussion stays general without mentioning what the tests are.
Cheers,

This might help those thinking of applying...

JB1991 19th Jul 2015 13:51

Has anyone heard about the process for their Class III Medicals? I know I can go out and get one done by a DAME, but should I be expecting correspondence from ASA beforehand?

Lily64 25th Jul 2015 01:00

Don't worry about the medical until you're asked to get it. You'll get a detailed email with instructions of exactly what they want you to get, and where you should get it from. The medical's quite expensive (around $500 minimum), so don't get one until you're asked to do so.
Cheers,

What's the start date for the October course?

bennett.wildfire 29th Jul 2015 02:37

I was told I'm starting on 9th of November. Anybody else in the same course?

Know I. Deer 29th Jul 2015 22:55

Great news bennett.wildfire! I assume it's a Melbourne course?

Still waiting to hear which one I'll end up on.

Knackers 30th Jul 2015 01:25

What's the start date for the October course?
5th October I'm told.

Lily64 30th Jul 2015 01:26

Is that en route in October?

Hey Bennett if I recall correctly you were opting for tower? Is that what the 9 Nov course is?

bennett.wildfire 30th Jul 2015 23:38

I was opting for tower but they put me on enroute. Oh well.
And yes, it is in Melbourne. Still waiting for my letter of offer though.

Lily64 30th Jul 2015 23:50

My understanding is that they're only training a few people a year for tower at the moment so the current wait for a course could be well over a year...

Yeah, when they told me I asked about the possibility of doing tower instead and I was told the next tower course wasn't until the end of 2016.

Snikeron 1st Aug 2015 13:43

Anyone else received news on 9 Nov start?
Odd that we interviewed together bennett but I haven't heard about a 9 Nov course start -- and I opted for enroute!

Have you submitted and cleared all your Class 3s and the security check?

EDIT: Just rang HR today - I applied at a later date, so I'll be on the next course instead

Request for info

Hi All!

I have been following this thread for a while now yet this is the first time I am posting. I am an ATC from Europe entertaining the thought of applying for the job posted recently by Airservices. While I admit I have not read all 164(?) pages of the discussion, there is a wealth of information in here already for which I am thankful. I have read through the ATC Enterprise Agreement and familiarized myself with the contents yet I always find it is beneficial to get the details from those who work by them. So if any of you would be kind enough to PM me with some details regarding how an average week/month looks like I would greatly appreciate it. I am most interested in the roster for TCUs but all pieces of information are welcome. Thank you very much in advance!

Anyone? Please. Any morsel

Plazbot 14th Aug 2015 06:36

That is the roster worked in UK and Middle East. One group in Brisbane worked something similar but with day shifts every few weeks (could be more these days). I am not a current employee but your rosters are based on a fatigue score maximum value and not less than 10 hours between (and some other technicalities). Afternoon, day, morning and back same night then 2 off was the traditional way of doing things.

StATCLover, I see you asking for details about the future EBA but it seems you have not read the current one properly.

http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/...05_2012_15.pdf

Page 19 onwards refers to work hours. Create what ever you (they) want based on those rules.

In my opinion it is a bad idea having duty hours covered in the Enterprise Agreeement as they become a bargaining chip every 3 years. They should be contained in the Civil Aviation Regulations.

Cleared For A Coffee 14th Aug 2015 08:33

I see Airservices are recruiting for international applicants again, is this something which is likely to continue for the foreseeable future? It seems to open for a period every year now.

le Pingouin 14th Aug 2015 12:21

I'd think so for at least the next five years. Understand this is just my opinion as a controller - I have no inside knowledge of recruiting plans.

Our age profile is rather top heavy - plenty of us will be 50+ in five years and looking at retirement.

We're moving to a new system between 2018 and 2021 (on paper at least) so need extras to cover the transitional period - I'd expect any surplus numbers will be rapidly absorbed in replacing retirements.

Basically we're pedalling hard with training and barely keeping up.

le Pingouin 15th Aug 2015 14:01

A number of international recruits have gained PR and continued working. Sorry, no idea what support Airservices gives in obtaining PR, other than presumably offering continued employment.

Have 15th Aug 2015 14:57

Thanks very much, le Pingouin!

The IMMI note that any one, holding 457visa and has been working for at least two years, can apply for PR if his/her employer would like to nominate him/her for a permanent position.

For those gained PR, are they nominated just after two years' service or they have to wait till the end of the 4-year-term?

Maybe a little hard for you to have this kind of information....thanks again!

kpnagidi 17th Aug 2015 03:30

@Have

Job Details - Experienced Air Traffic Controller - INTERNATIONAL | Airservices

Check the FAQ link near the bottom.

Have 17th Aug 2015 08:29

Hi Kpnagidi:

I check the FAQs. There seems some contradictions. AsA says you get PR first, then they would consider permanent offer. While Immi says you get Permanent offer first, then they would consider your application for PR....

I am quite confused....

Thank you very much for your reply!

kpnagidi 17th Aug 2015 08:59

AsA will not (at this time, neither forseen in the future) sponsor for PR. If you, I, get PR, they might offer permanent employment. There are visas that require being sponsored and other that don't. I suggest you check what's avail at immi, weigh the risk involved and it's a personal decision only you can make. Certainly no guaranties.

All the best.

Plazbot 17th Aug 2015 11:49

Have, do you have level 6 English?

happyjet 19th Aug 2015 12:01

Long time reader, first time poster of this thread. Was reading this Airservices adds flight simulator course for trainee air traffic controllers | Australian Aviation and wondered if it was still part of the training of controllers, doing the flight sims and jump seat rides on airlines. Sounds great!

jhsd 20th Aug 2015 05:20

Snikeron or anyone else, I'm curious as to when you started the application process? I started back in Nov last year and I found out in June this year that I got through. HR also told me that there will be nothing for me until at least the next financial year. So I've got nearly a year wait now for a course!!

Hey bennett.wildfire,
I am also starting down in Melbourne on 9th November.

Feel free to email me.

Trainee/candidate age

Recently noticed ASA advertising for ATC trainees. At 47, well-educated and cognitive functions still "not too bad", would my age be an impediment to be considered as a serious contender for trainee candidate? Is there a mandatory/preferred retirement age for ATC's?

Thanks, James

RVL Roll 25th Aug 2015 08:49

Still waiting....

I started my application process in July 2014, told in Dec 2014 that I passed interview. The last email I received was in May 2015 informing me that I had been successful and put forward for a short course. They are looking at dates for July 2016 but I am still awaiting an offer letter and to be told tower/area/en route.

Hopefully something is forthcoming soon, the HR process seems to take its time.

Good look to all in the process.
