Any info you guys can give on your experiences with this part of the application would be great!
I filled my ARN application on the 13th of May via email and when I checked upon it on the 28th by phone, it had already been issued... Call them up.

Online test query and assessment day

Hey everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone can verify if the initial online testing is the same as to what's on the assessment day?

I've got my assessment day in July, and have been doing some practise shl tests online to polish up, however I feel that some of the practise ones I've been doing seem slightly more challenging in some areas, than to what I remember doing on the initial ATC online test.

Re assessment day computer testing:-
Some was fairly similar but from memory there were also additional very different tests as well that tested some specific skill sets.

I think that is a fair answer that doesn't reveal any information that would give any unfair advantages

visa type

Can any of the international experienced controllers starting with Airservices tell me which work visa they are starting on.

Is it a 457 or a 402 ?

I asked about that ... the 402 I believe is a training visa while we are training ... once certified, the visa turns into a long-term working visa 457 ... I am leaving in 3 weeks so that better be right! LOL

Hours of operation

Can anyone advise where to find hours of operation for Australian airports? I have looked in the AIP but with no luck. The structure is quite different from what we have...

Hi;

I am applying on a 402. I understood that after FIELD TRAINING we will file for 457.

As CLEARTOLAND78 said...that better be right!

Cheers, Sixchecked

Age query

Hey all. Long time reader but first post on the forum.

I'm currently thinking about the possibility of a career shift into ATC and I had a question about age. Specifically, is 40 considered too old to start the process, or would it be a non-issue? Not looking to call anyone ageist or anything like that, just after honest feedback so I don't start down a path that I may find made more difficult because younger guys and girls are preferred.

I currently work in the aerospace field, but more on the engineering side of the fence.

Cheers,
Woodsy

Arrival advice

Hey all. My arrival date is coming up at the end of the month. I had a few questions.

I just received a welcome packet email from Airservices. My questions are for those with experience from arriving abroad. I know that Airservices covers 6 weeks car hire. I was told I should buy a car in Melbourne. I know it seems cut and dry, but does anyone have any tips on how I should go about the process, i.e. Should I have a car for the first day or can I swing it with getting a ride from someone who has a car already (I would be more than happy to pay my share of gas) just until I can formulate a strategy.

If I require a car hire right away, can I get away with a taxi or car service to take me from the airport to the housing complex until I am rested and ready to deal with a car hire? Is there anything about a car hire in Australia that I should know that may catch me off guard?

Sorry to bug you all (it's late here in the United States and my nieces and nephews are worn their uncle out). But I do appreciate all the help. I still cannot believe that I am actually about to do this.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Check your benefits tab on the employee portal re car hire. DON'T pick up from the airport, costs an additional $99 or something for a 10 day hire..

2rights, there is no age discrimination, either positive or negative. You sink or swim on your own merits - that applies to the entire process, from initial testing to final field training. You'll be given exactly the same chance as everyone else.

That said, the training is very full on so favours the speed and flexibility of a younger brain. The generalisation is the older you are the harder it gets, so you at 40 will find it harder than you at 25 (but you still might find it easier than the 25 year old sitting next to you). What matters is it boils down to whether you can meet the standards or not, not your age.

From a purely statistical point of view at 40 you are behind the eight ball.

Hey sir --

I cannot access the portal anymore. After I completed all the tasks as an applicant, it said I was done. Should I be have access to it? Should I be talking to someone about it? Thanks!

Hey guys,

I've just had all my medicals and both DAME/DAO confirmed they sent the results to CASA on tuesday of this week and I know the casa site says to give 28 days from when they get everything (already paid processing fee) but how long have you guys experienced it has taken? is it better to wait until next month then call em up or do it earlier? I had to ring them for my ARN and got it verbally .. still haven't received any corro from them in regards to it haha. Thanks all for your help!
