23kg - lift barbell to waist and then over the head, two times
32kg - lift weights in dugglebag to waist, two times

Really?? That is extremely heavy and unsafe weight to be made to lift over your head unaided. I don’t know when you would ever be made to lift that amount over your head In the role (it’s why hand luggage has a limit of 7-9kg) I was previously an international flight attendant for Qantas and my medical was nothing like this, this sounds more like a fitness test? My medial, was like a regular medical check up, BP check, drug test, BMI, ECG, hearing test these kind of things. They did make sure you could lift 23kg because that’s how heavy the emergency exit is. I am really surprised they are making people do this now it seems a bit intense now.

Also received xref email on Friday afternoon.. It did go to my junk email though so for anyone who hasn't heard anything, maybe check your junk emails too :)
Anyone have any idea on time frames for references, security, medical and US visa to go through before being offered GS or is this different for everyone? Just trying to figure out what sort of GS dates there are for this year is all :)

How far do they ask to go back for references? Last 2 employers?

l395

You at least need a current, or past employer/manager within the last 2.5 years and another within the last 5 years.

Hi guys, Many months ago I applied for QF International BNE. So I have a quick question, what photos do we have to include with our application if we make it to AD? I received an email on Friday my application is still in progress which is a good sign. Thanks and all the best to everyone. :)

I actually took one of myself through a mirror on my iphone. Full length and then sent it to my printer and printed it on A4 paper. Not professional at all.
The main thing I think is for them to have a clear photo of you when you are discussed.
I think I have progressed past references now as they sent an email yesterday asking for details required for background checks. AD was SYD 10/5..

What's x-ref exactly? Do Qantas call up the referees or do you get copies for ourselves to submit?
So exciting you are up to the reference stage. :)

People, if you are going to an assessment day here’s some advice if you want to fast track yourself. Have EXACTLY what they ask you to in the information letter.

don’t fall into the trap of saying “I will get an RSA if I get through” or “I will get a first aid certificate”. Have it with you. Have the signed swimming certificate with you if they have asked for it. Have EVERYTHING with you at the assessment day. So when the assessors check your documents they will put a tick next to every single criteria. DONE. Next stage for you. There were 7000 Applications for this current recruitment. Trust me, stay ahead of the pack by being ORGANISED!!

Its a FANTASTIC company and truly the best job out there.

Hi islandwings, X-Ref is the third party company Qantas use to conduct reference checks. Those successful at an AD leads to email communication from X-Ref (no contact from Qantas at this time) requesting you to provide at least two referees from previous employers. X-Ref contacts these referees and then forwards their responses on to QF. Hope that makes sense. Best of luck with the process.

hi everyone, I’ve been checking in on this thread for the last few weeks. Does anyone have any info about how long the background checks will take? I applied in March, attended an assessment day in April (Sydney), the next day I was asked to compete x-ref details and was sent a link to begin background check. 3 weeks later i got a call, I was congratulated and asked if I could attend ground school in May but unfortunately I could not resign from my current job in time and also my security clearance hadn’t even been submitted yet. It has been 3 weeks now since submitting the security clearance but no more news from qantas regarding another ground school date.

I applied for Brisbane base and just received this email. Has anyone received the same thing? Has anyone even been invited to an assessment day FOR Brisbane base?

"Thank you for your ongoing interest in the Qantas Cabin Crew Australia International Brisbane based position. We appreciate the time and effort you have put into your application to get to this point and are excited to let you know that you have been successful in progressing through to the next stage of our recruitment process.

The nature of the airline industry means requirements are often shifting. Unfortunately, due to a late change yesterday we no longer have a requirement for Brisbane based Flight Attendants and now instead require additional Flight Attendants to be based out of Sydney. We would like to give you the opportunity to progress your application further if you would like to do so for a Sydney based position. If not, we can leave your application in process for a Brisbane based position should positions arise in the next 12 months.
If you are open to considering a Sydney based position, we would like to invite you to attend an Assessment Centre next week. Please be aware that if you are successful in securing a Sydney based position you would be required to transfer to Sydney at your own expense and commit to that base for at least 12 months. In the future, should an opportunity come up to transfer to a Brisbane base, you could then request a base transfer through our internal process. Please be advised that base transfers are not guaranteed and will only be available as per business requirements. "

Only two red crosses left - Auscheck results received and final qantas security clearance status.
Though it says auscheck application was only received on 28/5/19 so I feel I still have a few weeks of waiting.
They did mention they have multiple ground schools running throughout the rest of the year so I hope I don’t have to wait too long.

Just wondering if anyone can provide me with any sort of insight in relation to the colour vision requirements for cabin crew for QF or any airline??

I have recently found out that I am colour blind (quite badly) and am in the process of applying for an airline. Just want to know if anyone out there knows any info of the medical requirements and whether I should be concerned?

If someone could please provide me with further information that would be AMAZING!!

Sorry my reply was intended for Hannah..? For anyone waiting on news hopefully you hear soon. If any positions were available through MAM they would be available on their website and the Qantas Workday website. My understanding is that BNE no longer require additional crew and that people that had applied and were being considered were contacted to ask if they wished to be considered for a SYD position.

It can can be a lengthy process, be patient and optimistic. respond promptly to communication from potential employers would be my tips.

All the best.

Wow congratulations you must be stoked! I just did a AD in Brisbane for a Sydney position yesterday...can I ask how long it took to hear if they were progressing to contact references? Wishing you all the best for your ground school! 😁🙏

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if there were anymore AD scheduled for this year. Unfortunately I wasn’t invited to the last AD that was held in Melbourne however I haven’t had a rejection email and my application is still ‘in progress ‘. I am still hopeful of getting to an AD and am wondering how long that might be .......... any update would be fantastic. 😊 thank you. Well done to everyone who has applied, it’s a long journey

I agree with island wings :) you got as far as getting to Assessment day and who knows when they recruit for Brisbane *could be next year for all I know >__< and im sure by then you would have improved from this time, trust me a year goes by quite quickly, you'll get your next chance soon im sure :)

islandwings! im so sorry for my delayed reply, im still in the same boat as quite a number of Brisbane applicants, still haven't heard anything from Qantas yet. im very unsure how it will all play out to be honest, about 2 years ago I applied for Qantas Customer Check in Service officer and it still says "in progress" lol!!!! although I applied for the same role again 3 years ago and it said "complete"

so you can imagine whats going through my head when I see this kind of activity. im thinking either they are just going to go radio silent and not say anything at all until the next recruitment drive or if we're lucky to get any sort of reply which is what most of us are banking at the moment.

you asked me also what my thoughts are and im guessing they might be keeping a certain number of us for a potential recruitment day down the line during the year........(if lady luck is smiling upon us lol) which is why a large group of us haven't heard anything yet.

I also read on this forum that a large group of Cabin Crew International staff made an internal transfer to Brisbane Base which is why I think played a large factor for us not getting a AD.

therefore I feel during the year once they are comfortable with the numbers for their Brisbane base and know how much more are needed they will give us an invite to AD......but im guessing even if we are to get the call to AD it would be quite a long while till then (if we're lucky probably near the end of the year, but hopefully sooner ;__:)

thats just my two cents.......I could be totally off in my thoughts and predictions so take what I say with a grain of salt....

I wish the very best for all of us :)

Hi BNE applicants. I just received this. I'm not entirely sure if they did any recruitment in Brisbane for BNE positions. I was really hoping for this opportunity. Wasn't to be.

Did anyone get an AD for a BNE based position? Congrats to all those in Syd & Melb going to GS. Hang in there BNE peeps. Hopefully we get an AD some day in the future for Brizzy! :) xx

Thank you for your ongoing interest in the Qantas Cabin Crew Australia International based position. We appreciate the time and effort you have put into your application to get to this point in our recruitment process. The nature of the airline industry means requirements are often shifting. Unfortunately, due to a recent change, we no longer have a requirement for Brisbane based Flight Attendants. Whilst we not have any further QCCA assessment centres scheduled in the immediate future, we will keep your application on hold and you will be invited to attend an assessment centre, should any further opportunities arise over the next 12 months.

Hi Issapu, thanks for your reply. It was much appreciated. :) I was so excited when the original ads went up for QF BNE CC. I thought, wow what an awesome opportunity. Islandwings ^_^ right back at ya :) thank u for ur reply ^^ I also received the exact same message as you this afternoon so also no AD for me either, although I was expecting this which kinda makes me believe once they know how many new Cabin Crew they have received from interstate and what they have got to work with, probably later down the track (maybe near the end of the year or abit after that) they might hold an Assessment day to fill in the gaps they may have open, although i do feel that it will be very fierce competition as alot of people want Brisbane and the opportunity to live in the sunny QLD.

after reading that email it says near the bottom if there is a AD within the next 12 months we will be invited......so at least we "made it" so to speak to the next stage lol!!! ,... I have a small gut feeling (i could be totally wrong) maybe near the end of the year they might start to talk about holding a AD.

but until that time, im just going to keep up the grind on my other stuff till then.......*i still have to loose a few more pounds and get abit more fit than I am now, so it might be a blessing in disguise LOL!!!!!"

This is by Far from over for us Brisbane Candidates.........dont feel discouraged guys, just be patient ........this is just a small road bump in our journey

I was really gunning for this opportunity also....but I ain't giving up....

im sure i'll see you guys at the AD one day in the near future :)

p.s a Congratulations to Sydney and Melbourne Crew that got through to the finals, and those who didn't get through, if u really want it you will get it. just dont give up :)

Hey everyone,

Is this process really confusing for anyone else? Like the time frames of things. I now have all green ticks for my background check yet I havnt heard anything regarding my medical.
Last time I spoke with talent acquisition they offered for me to start ground school in May but I was unable to give my current work 2 weeks notice so I had to say no to that date and am now waiting for a new ground school date.
When I spoke to talent acquisition about this she said not to worry as there are many ground schools going through this year, so it makes me wonder why I haven’t heard anything since.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I cant seem to message you back and it says you’ve sent me another message which I can’t see.

I actually havnt done the medical yet. Mayb I worded my last post a bit funny. When I was asked to start ground school in May I hadn’t done medical or even submitted my background check. I too am interested to know what the medical involves so if anyone can share info that would be great.

Now my background check is complete I guess I play the waiting game to be contacted to attend a medical and hopefully get a ground school date.

tryig to stay positive and hopefully I’ll be training by the end of the year :)

Hey
Wow 2 weeks is really fast! I emailed the recruitment team and they said it generally takes 6 to 8 weeks and I should hear back about doing a medical once the background checks have cleared.

Maybe they're just waiting for more people to be cleared before organising training schools because they also told me in the email there will be quite a few being held this year.

Does anyone know how many people will be put on hold? And how it's determined who gets put on hold?

Thanks!

If anyone from Internal or any current of past Qantas Domestic Staff members can be so kind and help me with answering this question.

what is the differences being a Domestic Cabin Crew opposed to being a International Cabin Crew? (apart from flying inside Australia and the other outside of it)

is the pay different? how many flights do Domestic staff do a day? would people aim to become a International Cabin Crew than being apart of Domestic?
you have more of a life being part of the Domestic Crew than International is what I heard and the contract is supposedly better? (i could be totally wrong its just something I heard)
also if there are other things that I left out please feel free to share if you like!

Currently I have received an email from Qantas saying that they are not currently recruiting International Cabin Crew for Brisbane BUT will invite me to an AD if positions are available in the next year.
but now Qantas seems to have opened up positions for Domestic Cabin Crew FULL TIME for Brisbane base,

If lets say I become a Domestic Cabin Crew for Qantas and while that's happening suddenly Qantas decides to invite me to an AD for International down the road can I switch to International right away? or would I have to be with Domestic for at least a year or so before I can get a transfer?

I'm so sorry for the long message and the questions, I'm just really confused as to what I should as if I should take the chance, go for the Long shot and wait it out for International Cabin Crew or just go with Domestic for now?

Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can put some light on this (long) question, I really do appreciate any help and any advice that may come.

kind regards and big hugs

I haven’t heard anything different, but their actual
GS is being held in MEL? Not SYD? That’s interesting!

Issapu :)))

Currently, a lot of domestic flight attendants are subcontracted through MAM. The recruitment process is different and it’s a casual contract. International flight attendants are employed under full time QCCA contracts. The pay/conditions are different. It’s not really possible to “swap” between the two easily, the divisions aren’t interchangeable in that sense. If I were you and really wanted to fly, I would give the domestic a shot - when they open up international again then you can go for that, there are no penalties for going for an international interview whilst working at domestic.

International and domestic flying are two different jobs in my opinion! Both have their positives and negatives... you won’t know if you like them unless you try!

I also applied around 4 months ago. I have 4 green ticks so far for background check - waiting on 2 more! I am okay with the long process as I have a couple of weddings in September (I didn't realise it would be this long to be honest and thought if I was going to as successful as I am this far - that I would be out of GS and onboard already), so I am hoping for any GS to be offered late September onwards! Ecstatic to be getting through these stages either way :)

All my contact so far has been from private numbers - however, if i've missed a call they've always left a number in a voicemail to call back on.

Hi,

This is a very detailed excerpt but hope it will give you a thorough idea,
Cheers :)

What is involved?

Each assessment is designed to run for approximately 60 minutes and is divided into three parts.

Please be aware that your blood pressure and heart rate will be checked prior to any functional or strength testing. If your blood pressure is above 160/100, or your heart rate is above 100 beats per minute you will not be able to complete any functional or strength tests. A GP clearance letter will be required. It may be necessary for you to have a follow up appointment with the physiotherapist in order to complete the missed components of the assessment. Please refrain from ingesting any caffeine or smoking prior to your assessment to ensure an accurate reading.

Part A: Detailed subjective history; and
Part B: Testing of specific manual handling abilities and techniques Including:

Lifting and carrying of different loads
Grip Strength
Repetitive Lifting
Lifting techniques
Lower Limb Flexibility and Strength
Upper Limb Flexibility and Strength
Cervical, Thoracic & Lumbar Flexibility and Strength

Part C: Further Testing (only if applicable)

Urine Sample.

This is a drug test that will detect the presence of small amounts of illegal drugs in your system. If you are on a prescription medication which you believe will affect this test please bring in a letter from your GP. Ensure you disclose all medications you are taking as some may affect the test.

Blood Pressure Screening

This is basic test which measures your resting blood pressure. This can identify people who may be at risk of heart conditions or who may be unsuitable for intense exercise.

Hearing Screening

This is a screening tool which checks your hearing in each ear based on your responses when tones of varying frequency and volume are played. If you have recently been exposed to loud noises, or suffered a cold or sinus infection, please let the assessor know.

Vision Screening

Your vision will be checked both with and without aids. If you wear glasses or contacts, please remember to bring these to the assessment, as well as fluid to remove contacts if required.

Cardiovascular Fitness Screening

A 3 minute step test is used to assess your endurance and fitness. Please wear clothing appropriate for exercising.

Psychological screening

A short screening questionnaire is used which asks several broad questions about your mental wellbeing. Please answer truthfully to the best of your ability.

Lung function

This test assesses your breathing and lung capacity, which can help determine your suitability for endurance tasks.

What Happens after the Assessment?

The physiotherapist will submit a report to your potential employer based on the findings. Note that the physiotherapist will not tell you any of the results or recommendations that they make. Pre-employment assessments are not “pass or fail” but rather a summary of your current abilities and medical/injury history.

Someone has posted already the detailed info -
But to answer your questions no blood test, just urine sample which gets sent for testing and breath test on the day.
There is a hearing test, you put the headphones on, listen to the recording and press the button when you hear the beeps - pretty straight forward.
Also a vision test, for colour blindness and also basic vision test reading the chart from various distances.
Yes I had to do push ups (was allowed to do them on my knees and i think it was only 15), sit ups, planks, overhead press, lifting weighted bags, pushing and pulling a cart. All the usual type manual handing exercises.
Don't feel stressed if you aren't 100% confident with push ups etc - like the other person said it isn't pass or fail, they just send an overall rating to Qantas.

Hey all,

Currently doing my ASIC...is anyone else at this stage too? After they were all ticked off how long did it take to do medicals? Is anyone else here from Brisbane (now Sydney lol) or is it just me? 🙏 It’s so hard to estimate time frames 😭. I wonder how many ground schools they’re having this year...it can’t be many I’m guessing?!

Congratulations to everyone that’s made it passed medicals! You’ve got this 😁

I would encourage you to be patient and remain optimistic and positive. Have all your documents ready would be my advice as when asked for them - RSA / First Aid etc it is great to be able to send them straight back. Any questions then feel free to drop me a message. Hi, myself and another person on here are starting ground school on August 1st. We are Sydney based. For me I think it was approx 3 weeks from having all green ticks on background check to getting a phone call from Qantas asking me if I would complete a medical. Hi,
the green ticks are in relation to the background check.. have you submitted your check yet? When you log in you will see ticks for different parts that have been completed by qantas/auscheck/asic. So once your submitted the background check there is nothing for you to do, just wait! Mind you I was checking the ID services page everyday to see how it was going.
Not sure if this answers your question?

Hey Bella18,

The green ticks will be for your ASIC (security id). The ID services team send you an email to upload all your identity documents and as each stage is completed, you get a tick. (I.e application received by auscheck, application approved by auscheck etc.). I think some people are getting confused because on the Qantas Workday page, you also get a green tick if your status is in progress...but this is just to show your overall application is still being reviewed. ☺️

Hope me this helps xx

Yesterday, I received an email from Qantas congratulating me on passing my security check... and that I have been placed on indefinite hold. I am so devastated because I am so unhappy in my current job and was hanging onto this glimmer of hope that I’d be in GS by October at the latest.

I’ve read through this entire forum a hundred times, and saw that people were waiting up to 1 YEAR to get contacted for GS, and had to redo all their certificates (I got all mine done 2 months ago.. It’s a Virgo thing haha!)

I had a cry to my mum about it for ages and she looked at me like the dumbest kid on earth! Saying that I have made it past hundreds of other applicants and that I should be grateful to get this far, and that gods timing will come into play when it needs to!

So I’m taking the time to stop sulking, and celebrate my achievement of making it thus far! I’m going to go to the gym 5 times a week (maybe..we’ll see..let’s be real... I’ll go once) and manifest my
Golden Call moment and push through my current toxic work environment.

Really wishing every single one of you the BEST of luck with your applications and can’t wait to see you all on board soon!!

in an awful job situation too! I applied for Brisbane and my hopes went through the roof only to receive an email saying there won’t be recruiting anytime in the near future. Literally, heartbroken. But like you I’m hanging in there with hope and trusting Gods timing. It’s so hard. At least you know you HAVE the job! Which is so exciting! It’s the DREAM!!!

Hey guys,

I’m so so sorry for what you guys have been put through. I can’t even imagine how gut wrenching that must’ve felt! Just know that I speak from experience when I say everything happens for a reason. And it WILL happen! Please don’t give up hope! Book a holiday, hang out with friends...do anything to take your mind off it. But know you HAVE the job! Now it’s just the waiting game!

All the very best and let me know how you go! I’ll be rooting for you ❤️✈️🙏

Good on you!! Great honest words!! My application is in the background check stage at the moment to! I can’t believe I’ve made it this far either! I’m 42 next month and this is my childhood dream job, even though I’ve been in the airline industry for 14 years now I put my dreams on hold to have a family and now I have this opportunity. Im looking forward to hopefully working with you in the coming years!! [/left]

Just a message to really get out of my system how badly I want this. Waiting and hoping for Brisbane to open back up one day after the applications were put on hold earlier this year is killin me! Trying to keep the dream alive in my soul. Any Brisbane hopefuls applied for domestic or Qantaslink in the interim?

Hi Gypsy Heart,

I too am on hold for QF International BNE. In the meantime, I applied for Qantas Link & Altara/Jetstar. I got an AD for Altara/JS Domestic in mid July and now been offered a GS mid August. It happened so fast. I have been sent my first study materials and my uniform measurement info. Done my medical and waiting for all the green ticks for ASIC. Once you've done a year with Altara, you transfer into Jetstar fully. Plus my correspondence is from Qantas. It's very exciting.

Did you apply for anything else? Hope you have had some good news. I wish you all the best!

Cheers :) :)

It was also advertised on Seek.com for Altara/Jetstar. Keep an eye on Altara website as they recruit whenever Jetstar needs crew. Also I believe my friend got her position for Qantas Link last year through the Altara website under Cobham.

It's casual which suits me fine. From the sounds of the AD I'm going to be a very busy casual.

Hey Dreamergirl

I love the positivity and supportiveness of others, definitely shows you'll be an awesome Qantas cabin crew member, hopefully sooner rather than later!!

May I ask if you applied for the Sydney or Melbourne base? I applied for Sydney but my background check still isn't complete even though it's been over 8 weeks now. Starting to think I'll also be put on hold as it doesn't seem like anyone else's is taking such a long time! Anyway I'll try to remain hopeful and at least this process will make me a more patient person haha.

Thanks :)

Hey,

Just so that you know and everyone else knows, Jetstar doesn't exactly work like that. After you have been at Altara for a year (thats one year after you graduate ground school, not when you start ground school) you become eligible to apply for Team Jetstar (actually be apart of Jetstar). There has to be positions available for you to apply for, you don't just automatically get it. And the year has to have passed before applications close. If you are successful in interviewing to be a part of Team Jetstar, there is still some time until you get it. You are then Jetstar Casual for atleast 6 months until you are able to apply for Team Jetstar Full-time and then the process repeats itself. They have to have positions available and open for you to apply for and then you have to interview for it again. Unless you are extremely lucky, the whole process of graduating and becoming full time can take almost 2 years

Have any QF international, external applicants (bonus points for Sydney base) heard anything past ASIC checks?

I’m been sitting on green ticks for a couple of days now and I’m wondering whether i’ll get the active hold or medical email.

Oh thanks so much for letting me know. Greatly appreciated! I was just going on what we were told at the Assessment Day by Altara/Jetstar. Sounds like there's more to it. Looking forward to GS this month. All the best CC wannabees! :) :)

Well, there hasn't been a ground school for almost 2 years in SEQ, so good luck to anyone that gets through it. And there are many problems going on with Jetstar at the moment, so really think carefully

Hey Bella,

Yes! The next stage will be your medical however there's honestly no answer on how long that will be...with our recruitment there are some people who were put on hold prior to the medicals...I fortunately was not! It's honestly just luck I think so try and stay positive and have faith! And yes, you will receive a phone call regarding your progression to the medical!

Is anyone on here employed as Virgin Guest services crew? There is no forum for what I want to ask, so I’m hoping one of you lovely people might be able to help.

While waiting for QCCA Brisbane to happen, I applied for Virgin Guest Services, it’s part time and minimum 25 hours, but just curious what the pay is like, and the number of hours averaged. Do guest services get penalty rates for Sunday’s and Christmas Day etc?

If you can point me in the in the right direction, I’ll be forever grateful :)
