Well, It's looking like fine weather for the Air Show!!

Wonder why they don't stage these shows at the Airport itself anymore - surely a substantial income generator??

What happened to the blackpool Air Pageants which were held annually during the '70s at Squires Gate? I went every year (never missed one!) and each time it was a roaring success. Crowds lined the side of 28 & 31 and cars were allowed to park on the grass. The whole place was open to the public and was buzzing. Now it's staged out to sea, it just ISN'T quite the same..

Come on Ms Kendrick, look to past successes if you really want to promote your airport.

If only for the sake of once a year!

Would the staging of the Blackpool Air Pageants not interfere with the running of the airport Sandgrown?, after all Blackpool Airport is busier now than in the 70s.

And A BIG THANK-YOU to ALL participants in our 2009 Airshow. As always, superb & professional and very-well co-ordinated between the three ATC frequencies in operation during the course of the Display. The KC135 Refueller was a unique sight in the skies around here, and to see a Vulcan in the air again...!

Cheers to all.

Pity the KC-135 and Vulcan were not asked by ATC to do a fly by of the Airport down the main runway given the 100 year anniversary - an ideal opportunity lost :uhoh:.
Typical Blackpool , I gave up trying to find a parking spot - ludicrous given the amount of attraction this event generated. Bloo%y parking meters with limited times and double yellow lines :mad::mad:

You couldn't hold an airshow at the airport anymore because the previous owners flogged off all the available land for the business park so nowhere for spectators to park and view an airshow on site ........

Business is business at the end of the day. If I owned BLK, I wouldn't hold onto lucrative land just so some people could take some photos once a year!

Well said Sandgrown, a great show and thanks to those who put it together and made it happen. Just a pity the great weather didn't last for the Red Arrows. I've been at the airport all weekend enjoying the sights and sounds of aircraft of all ages. It was great to see the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, topped off by the Vulcan and KC135.

MUFC Fan

I was just stating that fact as a reason why an airshow wouldn't be held at Blackpool anymore ......................... keep you hair on

Dont want the stats effected do we by joe public , spectators , photographers and airshow traffic .....:ok:

rufus.t.firefly,

Looking at your origional post - you seem to have no gist of economics of thinking logically.

The money involved to complete this would be stupidly high. I agree, it is a shame something like that could not be organised but seriously - would you expect BB to pay for that?

Try getting a parking space anywhere these days...

I heard earlier in the year that the airport were planning some kind of event on the 18th of October. This will be 100 years to the day of the airshow taking place back in 1909. Does anyone have any info as to what, if anything is planned for this date?

Many Thanks

Bo:mad:ks;If they could be slotted in the pattern, zero cost to BB. Displayers love to show off their wares and it would probably have made the ATC'rs day!
I'm not sure who would have been there to watch though.

Enjoyed watching the BBMF departing east over the M6 this afternoon whilst digging spuds for tea...can't beat a freshly dug spud.

By the time the BBMF passed over my house it was down to a lonely Lancaster. Lovely sight and sound though.

Well I can't really join in this conversation not being lucky enough to have been in the vicinity. I would have loved to have seen the Vulcan though.

I always doubted the wisdom of the MOD in decommissioning the Vulcan fleet.

I think I am right in remembering they later used then for flying fuel tankers.

TSR2 9th August 2009 23:31

You are quite correct Ernest, they were indeed used as Air Tankers between 1982 and 1984 as a stop gap whist awaiting the servicability of the L1011.

Question for those that are old enough? Around 40 years ago when I was a mere nipper there used to be a Lancaster Bomber parked up landside at the rear of one of the hangars close to the old terminal. The aircraft was open and not secure, which allowed us kids to crawl all over it. Anyone know how long it was at Blackpool, why it was there and what happened to it? From memory it was not in a flying state when I played in it.

TSR2 10th August 2009 09:01

The aircraft 'Just Jane' was in temporary storage at Blackpool for about 2 years from I guess 1962. It then moved to RAF Scampton as gate guardian then onto the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre where it regularly demonstrates high speed taxi runs to this day.

July 2009 passenger figures

Not a bad month. The biggest surprise comes from the Emerald Isles!

BFS 5315 69%
IOM 3090 62%
DUB 2623 94%
FAO 4492 84%
ALC 4765 85%
IBZ 2270 85%
MAH 1171 79%
AGP 5480 81%
MJV 3339 87%
PMI 5525 81%

Ernest Lanc's 14th August 2009 15:17

Good figures. Got to be remembered though the ALC 85% was achieved after the Tuesday flight was axed. Even so all these routed safe for next year, and will encourage Jet2 hopefully to expand:ok:.

Sandgrown 14th August 2009 18:51

Jet 3, eh, Ernest?

Things MUST be looking Positive!!!!

:ok::ok:

S.

Ernest Lanc's 14th August 2009 22:29

Must have been getting carried away Sandgrown:uhoh:, I have corrected:ok:.

Could be BLK are getting a new route from Jet2, has anyone got the promotional e mail from Jet2 which says? .

"Routes from Blackpool airport,

for 2010 coming soon......

watch this space!"
