The proposals, which are due to be presented to cabinet on April 12, give an indication of the council's plans for the site and also show how much money it will initially cost the local authority. The report estimates that councillors will need to agree to set aside £3.1 million for the project.

This money covers the legal costs of a compulsory purchase order (CPO) for the airport and not the cost of the land itself. The news comes after landowners Peel offered a lease of the airport to the council but the terms of the lease are described as "not acceptable" in the report.

The South Yorkshire Airport City (SAYC) project highlights that the 800 acre airport site has potential for further development. It points to ample space for new hangars and aviation activities which complement the main terminal developed in 2005.

The report claims that these factors, combined with constraints at other airports, present opportunities to significantly increase both passenger numbers and freight capacity at DSA.

3.1 million doesn’t seem a lot?

The mayor at Teesside received 17 million from the government just to build two hangers??

Hangers which Doncaster already had?

Think that’s legal costs and other admin to get a CPO in motion, but more detail will probably be available after next week. Led to believe they are seriously considering the lease offer, probably the most likely scenario to see the airport reopen if they can find an operator willing.

I see Mark Chadwick is leading his disciples down a blind path, claiming to know talks are still ongoing.

I've been informed that talks are still on going
Peel announced they've had no talks
but the information I have and its from a reputable source states talks on going
Last one was in March
Talks are not going on, they have ceased which is why they are looking into leasing/CPO.

I wish he would stop posting utter rubbish which he has absolutley no idea what he is doing. It will do more harm then good.

:ugh:

I have been reliably informed that the moon is made of cheese.

I cannot divulge my sauces.

Apparently the vote is tomorrow to gain full council support for the next step, I expect this will be favourable. Still of the opinion that a lease agreement is the only plausible solution to see the airport reopen.

He's at it again this morning distributing 'facts' which he has zero idea and is simply guesswork on his behalf, sadly the diciples follow the messiah, in some sort of cult following.

Are they actually being removed though? Do find it a bit too much of a coincidence that this is happening on the day of the council vote.

Next they will be rolling the runway up to so that they can use it later.

Asturias56 12th Apr 2023 09:16

ah - with all these new electric air taxis coming in 2 years (according ot all their promoters) they don't NEED a runway

TimmyW 12th Apr 2023 13:10

Definitely being removed.

Council probably haven’t agreed to this. DSAmole might know but maybe they’ve found a buyer for the lights?

TimmyW 12th Apr 2023 13:35

It's another nail in the coffin either way. But we keep being told the CPO would only be for the land.

Its madness that the coucil are still perusing this.

TimmyW 12th Apr 2023 14:30

Ros Jones has made an update stating talks with interested parties are still onoing and they have agreed for Peel to take down the lights and put them into storage.

I guess it’ll also obviously include the stuff on said land otherwise that would be impossible

What intrested parties as according to Nick and Peel and dsamole the UAE consortium pulled out.

The lease for the land in which the landing lights are situated is coming to an end.

G-FORZ 12th Apr 2023 16:10

Would the wording “…council have agreed” not suggest there is some agreement in principle to the council acquiring the site, it would appear they have no current legal position to allow or disallow anything. Peel presumably don't want to renew a lease on the lighting site they don’t own and won’t be used for 6-24 months if the airport were to reopen, so remove any equipment and leave it to new owners to take on the lighting site lease when required. Seems plausible.

No - there was an agreement to not do anything to substantially alter the airfield while a buyer was sought.

99.9% sure PEEL has zero intention of letting it go without a fight. When approached by the first consortium (a group of TUI investors) PEEL we're quickly to throw them out claiming it wasn't a "serious offer". Then comes consortium number 2, and number 3 the "UAE".. from which they simply got the offer they wanted but rejected both on grounds of "we dont know the source of your funds". Simple, get out of jail free card. Now, PEEL are hoping that the CPO cannot be funded and gets thrown out thus leaving them with reason not to put in for redevelopment plans citing "no credible offers".

Yes the approach lights, runway lights and so forth are all being removed and placed into "storage".. which is probably being carried out by Harry Hudini LTD.

Not perfect, but I'm going to guess that in the big scheme of opening an airport, landing lights are chicken feed...
