Anyone help on this?

Interesting comment but have no inside knowledge of any possible purchase but offer the following observations.

The three A330-200s came with the take over of My Travel and owned by TCX.

These TCX assets must now be a serious liability, as parking fees at Manchester airport cannot be cheap.

Worldwide there are 30 or so A330-200s of similar age that are stored and presumably available for purchase.

Considering that JET2 is operating A330-200s on summer leasing, it would be within reason to expect that JET2 are receiving offers to take over the airframes at virtually any purchase price.

I understand, from another forum, that it's gone to have its "pickle forks" seen to.

Thats what i heard too.

horsebox 8th Feb 2020 13:05

Ref the 330's of Tcook. I'd heard j2 have looked at them. Talk of £2.5m each, and spares/tooling aquired from the liquidators? But nothing concrete beyind rumours right now.

At the rught price they could fit in well with j2's operation..

Albert Hall 8th Feb 2020 14:40

Two of the TC A330s are worldwide fleet leaders on hours flown and were mid way through the Airbus life extension programme in which they were the first aircraft to be enrolled. Although they have plenty of life left yet, it would be a brave new operator getting into the A330 for the first time to take these particular aircraft on, unless you knew exactly what you were doing and had the engineering specialist expertise to do it. That’s not to say Jet2 couldn’t or don’t, but it is sensible not to rush into such things.

garry8g 10th Feb 2020 14:15

Jet2 B737-800 (G-DRTM) flew from LBA to BOH this afternoon (EXS045D).

Presumably to get the Jet2 Holidays livery finished prior to entering service.

Jenny Tails 10th Feb 2020 16:13

I've heard the ex-TCX A330s at EGCC are destined to be parted out as there hasn't been sufficient interest in them. Likewise for another aircraft that was mid-way through major checks when TCX went pop - supposedly too expensive to get the checks re-done

This is the spotter in me asking, but will the EXS A321’s rotate through MAN and BHX, or will the same 3 be at BHX all summer and the same 4 at MAN

Flying Wild 10th Feb 2020 18:24

Given there is a hangar at MAN equipped to maintain the Airbus, I suspect there may be the occasional down route tail swap.

Jet2 Summer 21

Jet2 apparently goes on sale tomorow for summer 2021.

Let's hope there are some new routes/frequencies

Thanks. I hadn't heard of Channel Express, so it was an interesting read on wikipedia to see where Jet2 all started.
I guess it is also where the EXS callsign originates from?

FamilyOf6 10th Feb 2020 20:36

I have some queries regarding airport and onboard elements of Jet2 service ahead of our first LS flights coming up soon. Is here a good place to ask, or is there a better forum? I am a member on flyer talk, but there doesn't seem to be an active Jet2 space there.

If they were going to announce new bases would they do it then or wait till later on in the year?

Yes Channel Express and Bournemouth are the spiritual fore-bearers of Jet2 today.
But the Dart Group moved the HQ to Leeds.
I have always been surprised they have not opened a Bournemouth base, but they are the darlings of the Midlands, the North and Scotland, with Stansted new for them last year and doing very well it seems.

They have a good reputation for flights and holidays, very family and service focused.

If you have on board product and service questions then why not post on the SLF thread on Misc forums here on Pprune....

I think you’ll find that Stansted has been a Jet2 base since 2017.

NEW ROUTE

Jet2 - Belfast International to Larnaca. Flights start 2 May 2021

BFS 1440-2150 LCA (Sun)
LCA 2240-0215+1 BFS (Sun)

N707ZS 11th Feb 2020 09:57

Interesting to see how old some of the recently purchased 738s are and number of hours flown. A practice which seemed to work well with the 733s.

Seems a lot better than buying new Aircraft, I dread to think what would be happening, if we had ordered the MAX from Boeing

Based on when BHX and STN were announced, the full programme had been put on sale. After a while, BHX and STN were then announced.

Even so, i wouldn't expect to see any new base this year. It's been well documented that Jet2 want to focus on their key bases of MAN, BHX and STN, especially with all the extra slots they bought from the TCX collapse

Jet2 BHX aircraft summer 2020

Latest info is

10x B737
3x Jet2 A321
3x Smartlynx A321
1x Titan B757 during peak summer.

Jet2 have come a long way from 4 aircraft just three years ago.

G-HLYF has positioned to MAN this morning.

Are the A321s due to operate any flights before the summer season begins? It’s still a few months away.

Another new Jet2 A321 (G-HLYA) was ferried from Cyprus Larnaca to Ostrava in the Czech Republic yesterday for painting into Jet2holidays livery.

JZH- looks like Jet2Holidays... HLY (for the "new" 321s - HoLidaY?? and what about DRT... DART Group?

Have I missed anything or barking up the wrong tree?

G-CEL Channel Express Limited
G-GDF Great Deal Friendlier
G-LSA LS1 The reservations system that holds the whole thing together
G-JZH JetZholidays (Jet2holidays)
G-JZ JetZ (Jet2)
G-DRT DART Group
G-HLY Holidays (All a/c in Jet2holidays livery)

G-DRT has been the sequence for the second hand B738s (since G-JZHH) but we have reached G-DRTZ now so it will be interesting to see what comes next 😉

Thought the LS ones were because it’s the postcode of the head office/OCC

LS was actually the two letter code used from 1978 by Channel Express, the airline that became Jet 2 under the leadership of the present Jet2 chairman and many years before the move to Leeds was conceived. Jet2 inherited the Channex coding legacy.

The connection to a Leeds postcode was not intentional, but no doubt a handy marketing ploy for a business putting down new routes in the north..

Smart company!

Any idea where “LS” came from? “EXS” I guess comes from the word “Express”?

nice to see them registering the 321 aircraft in C/N order, the reason why 'YF' was actually delivered first, will make it nice and tidy once they all arrive for the compulsives

garry8g 20th Feb 2020 14:12

Jet2 B737-800 G-DRTM entered revenue service this morning on LS249, Leeds to Fuerteventura.

Also, G-DRTL performed a short test flight at Manchester this morning at 06:41.

Neither Holiday House (The Mint) or Low Fare Finder House are in LS1.

LS being the last characters of Channel Express makes sense.

No but they’re both in an LS postcode.

Gurnard 20th Feb 2020 21:01

That may be, but it doesn't alter the fact that the LS connection goes back over 40 years to the time when the carrier's ancestor was based in Bournemouth and the Leeds connection was not relevant. See Flitefone's post (above) on the 19th.
