Looks like there is going to be a premium price charged for the new non stop rail service from Parkway to London. This would mean there will be no flexibility for passengers to swap trains if a fast or slower one was due.
|
Seems Luton has lost two thirds of its passengers today. I guess that will look good compared to next week.

Is that Departures, Arrivals or Both ?

Just been announced by airport terminal managers that retail opening hours are now 5am - 7pm instead of 4am - 10pm.

Level seem to have suspended all Luton flight
|
Ryanair are grounding the airline virtually in full - you cannot book a LTN-DUB flight for 4-5 days after next Tuesday as it stands.
|
There hasn’t been a Level flight now for at least a week.

I would think you are indeed correct. With so much happening right now days seem like weeks. Will Level return? I actually doubt it.
Passenger numbers for this year I am putting at maybe 5 to 7 million. Even that figure is inflated because the first two months were similar to last year. |
On a plus note Luton's FBOs business is very brisk. Whether this is execs returning home early or them not relying on scheduled services only time will tell.
When was the last DHL movement, they seem to have upped services to LHR so perhaps taking advantage of free slots there? |
Biz jets taking advantage of available slots now at Heathrow, so quite possibly cargo has moved?
|
I have spoken to someone who works for a limousine company at both Farnborough and Luton that covers all FBO’s. Biz jet traffic has collapsed so I don’t know what information the above post is based on.

Ok so there are no major sports, conferences, film premiers, chaps going to Ibiza to daddy's villa etc. going on but there has been an upsurge of movements, whether this is sustained we will see. Checking now, (00:20 GMT) 4 active VVIP movements without the ones blocked. (oh and a BCS flight so DHL not totally moved to LHR) |
I thought business jet traffic is massively down from my own observations with just random movements now rather than a stream.
|
This is the peak hour. As seen now operating well under a third of normal and some of those figures will be the airport workers around the terminal. Aircraft are being moved out of Luton for storage due to the airports high charges.

As of 12:00z today: of the 32 commercial passenger flights departing from Luton this morning, the passenger numbers travelling ranged between 1 and 149 per flight but only 4 flights had more than 100 customers.
im not going to mention which flights were which because that could be classed as commercially sensitive however it’s clear that airport activities will be coming to a halt sooner rather than later as numbers will only decrease further due to more severe travel measures being put in place. |
A number of jobs have now been cut for some stores. We have the majority of shops closed. I do believe my shop will close within the next 2 days as the company have asked for most stock back. Looking at flight boards, you only see red with the occasional spacing. I do believe most flights are people trying to get back home. I did hear about the airport potentially closing after this weekend or some point mid next week. It’s not looking promising.
Staff are beginning to stress about finical issues with the number of cuts now being made. If I find out anymore information I will be posting. |

.[/QUOTE] That is not what I am hearing from another source but the situation is very fluid. I obvoiusly cannot say where my information comes from. |
Remember the morning rush at Luton? Just 3 departures on Saturday between 6:00 and 8:00
No arrivals from 9:30 to 12.10 |
|
He can only speak for LLAOL and can’t speak for the companies that are based at the airport.
He says work on airport expansion has been suspended but what bit of airport expansion is he talking about as 95% of pre expansion work is being undertaken and paid for by LLAL and not LLAOL. I can only think of the new apron and modifications to the run up bay that might be paid for by LLAOL. Work on the Dart, which is all about airport expansion continues. Nothing about the DCO being suspended or plans to drop the dual carriageway unless he speaks for the council which I doubt. |
Blue Air has temporary stopped operations from 21st March
|
Plan is Wizz will move all their A/C to Doncaster on Wednesday, Ryanair to suspend all LTN operations, will keep A/C based at LTN to fly circuits every few days.
|
No Easyjet or Ryanair flights showing on the departure boards for today, just 7 Wizz flights.
|
|
The contact stands must be much freer now that Wizzair UK have decamped to Donny
|
11 Wizz flights in total today as the boards have had additions added. Still strong demand for Budapest and Bucharest with 3 flights each with an additional 3 flights to other Romanian destinations.
|
Most of The Wizz flights to Bucharest are sold out. Available flights are selling for close to £400 for a single flight. With no flights on Saturday the first availability is Sunday. All flights seem to be by A321.
Plenty of inbound availability. |
Even with the limited Biz Jet flights now, they are outnumbering Sheduled flights now.
|
Something was doing circuits today around lunchtime. I was a long way away but it looked like it had a high wingspan.

I was thinking it was a 146 as it had the right profile but I was too far away to see the engines. Think it did 3 approaches.

Feb 2020 Stats
Irrelevant now but Feb show a slight drop in pax numbers and rolling figure was 17,999,452!

I wonder how many months it will take to recover to the previous peak...

It will indeed be years, as the world will come out of this looking very different than it did from only a couple of months ago.
Once the virus is conquered in the U.K. that will be only the start. If the government has any sense it will ban foreign travel to and from any country that still has cases, as we will just reinfect the country again if we don’t. Then there is the financial cost to the country and individuals. While the council will no doubt go ahead with the DCO just to bag any permission, expansion will be many years away. If the airport came out with anything above 12million for 2021 it will have done well but future growth will be slow as the world recovers. Also Luton could lose out to Gatwick and maybe Stansted as they will also be looking to fill a void. |
The other massive challenge for LTN perhaps above other London airports is Brexit, if the Government continue on their kamikaze course. High unemployment from corona will drastically reduce incoming migration and if greater migrants from the last 15 years head back than anticipated either because of the economy or they’re made unwelcome that will further compromise the massive Wizz operation even further. That is assuming Wizz like many other airlines can weather a long shutdown.
