Nice to see FlyBe with a good TV advertising campaign in Yorkshire. Features an aircraft, the airport and a list of destinations. Ends with a corny Yorkshire accent like mine, but from memory, it's the first TV advert I've seen for DSA since the place opened.

I quite agree, eurochallenger. Good to see TV adverts and long may the raising of brand awareness continue. Airport seem to have really pull out the stops this year.

Irrespective of who is paying for the ads, it has to be good news in the long term. Ask a lot of people in Yorkshire where "you can go to fly to xxxx" and Doncaster won't even come into their minds.

A report about the airport’s future – The Vision for Transformational Growth – says: “Government support for these proposals would demonstrate a strategic and better balanced approach to the provision of future air capacity for the long term.” The airport, which is owned by Peel Group, said that initial estimates suggested it could cost between £100m and £150m to re-align the nearby East Coast main line and create a station by the airport. |
Interesting. I was not aware that (some) trains from London to Doncaster (proper) take less 100minutes. Which might be more of a problem for DSA than a solution..

It's many decades since London to Doncaster took that long. Certainly since the HSTs arrived 40 years ago. I'm sure some nerd will be able to find a Deltic era schedule. Must have been about 100 minutes then.

Surely, a much cheaper and readily achievable option would be to run a tram-rail service every 15 mins from Doncaster Station to the airfield boundary and then some form of relay to the terminal? Its not like the pre existing line is busy.......

Struggling to understand this forum's obsession with public transport access for regional airports, specifically DSA & LBA - even for MAN public transport access (Staff and Passengers) runs at only 10% (CAA stats). Real passenger number growth at DSA will only come with more routes, reliable convenient frequency at competitive prices - sort that out and people will find their way to the airport - 90% by car

That's appalling if, after all the investment in rail and tram access, 90% still come by car. Even EDI claims 30%. Where do all the staff and PAX park? Either they must pay a fortune to use purpose-built multistorey Paris, or they are parked in fields miles away, in which case they would it would surely be easier and cheaper to use public transport.

Appalling??? It's what 90% people do, for their own convenience and comfort when there's a parking space to be had at equivalent or slightly higher cost.

Its not like the pre existing line is busy....... The half-hourly X4 bus only takes 22 minutes, and I've never seen it with more than five people on it. It is usually cheaper, quicker and more convenient for passengers at DSA to share a taxi, get a mate to drop them off or even park there - apparently very reasonable. |
Its all part and parcel of lobbying.... even Peel wouldn't recognise the need for an onsite train station.
The case is if you don't make noise no one takes notice. If they didn't make noise about the link road, it would never have been built and opened up the opportunities with the surrounding land that Peel will ultimately benefit from over the coming decade. |
