Any sign of Flybe schedules for Summer 2017?
Ryanair at LBA giving notification today of increased flight regularity to the popular med destinations plus other east European destinations.
Hope Flybe can pull something out of the bag and soon. They are putting customers off with higher pricing and lower hand luggage size (than Ryanair LBA). I have today booked a one way flight tomorrow FAO-LBA at £75 (10kg 40cm (flybe 35cm)hand luggage + 15kg case) Flybe price on Thurs FAO-DSA £116 (2 cases - 40cm hand luggage too big). I'm a Yorkshireman and ££ will dictate choice. Daily flights for regular used destinations 2017 will boost LBA preference. I know Ryanair cut a hard deal, but are exclusive agreements with Flybe and Thomson stifling potential growth at DSA?

I wonder how much capacity is sold immediately after the launch of next summer's programmes, especially when the launch is before the end of the previous summer season. I imagine it's in the main capacity sold to families looking for cheap deals, and for whom price is more important than timings, service and the like.

Personally, I'm hard pressed to forecast, with any certainty, what my circumstances will be 6 months from now, let alone more than a year. It appears to me more like a cash-flow building exercise, getting fares, or deposits in from customers as early as possible, to spend over the leaner winter period.

Flybe take over from 30 Oct

Flybe showing 6 weekly flights to DUB. Interestingly the flights times are DSA based but the current scheduled other two flights departing at the same time are also on sale which indicates at least a third part based aircraft....

So probably some new routes to be announced.

New Dublin route is great from my point of view. And the fact the plane night stops in Dublin is likely to mean a hotel less in a typical Ireland visit. All good.

Having said that arrived back from Paris on Sunday night, to queue for 30 minutes outside to get through Passport Control.

The aircraft doesn't night stop in Dublin. It has a 1hr 5min turnaround on a weekday which is unusually long but perhaps it has something to do with an aircraft change from another base or some kind of slot allocation...

I agree. The UK Border area of the international arrivals hall is not the best fit for purpose. Just imagine what it gets like when all the Wizzair flights come in close together in an evening...

The downstairs area for the rarely used gates 4/5/6 should have always been the entry point for the international arrivals hall. With the correct set up and queing system you would easily be able to accomodate two full A320/737 passenger loads in this area. The baggage reclaim belts are directly behind this area and already has staff restricted access. So with minimal work it could completely transform the arrival experience without the need for any extension etc.

You can claim spin as much as you like, but over 145,000 pax in August is indeed the best month ever at DSA. 2017 will almost certainly be the airport's best year ever too. No need for spin. Though I agree, Dublin needn't have been brought up in the press release, as FlyBe is simply taking over the Stobart route.

Deal to bring in an airline to fight reality - massive passenger growth (£20+ tickets/half empty planes)- positive headlines of 'booming airport'. Didn't DSA try this when they 1st opened? The peel deal with BE must be eye watering.

Don't quite understand your point, Leeds Approach. The FlyBe flights from DSA aren't cheap at all when compared to Ryan Air, Jet 2 and Easyjet to the same destinations from LBA, MAN and EMA. Yet the figures don't lie. DSA and FlyBe must be doing something right to attract passengers even though cheaper options exist.

Dare I suggest that passengers in the region are finally discovering the "reality" that DSA is an easy airport to get to (at least by car) and its relatively small size makes the whole airport experience more comfortable than, say, LBA?

Yes that is exactly the spin that Teesside, Blackpool, Manston, Prestwick etc used when their passengers went up and up - but now look!! It's not about whether somebody or bodies are 'doing something right' it is about whether what they are doing is sustainable and makes money. Newquay airport, for example could charge £0 to fly to Spain and guess what their passenger numbers would rocket up too! Why has the national flag carrier of Ireland tried DUB twice and not hung around? Why has Belfast been tried by numerous airlines and ended? Why have RYR and EZY come and gone - the answer is simple; the catchment population is small. All airports and their rich owners will do deals and so the catchment population is all important because after the deals are finished airports will have to rely on the natural underlying demand.

You would need to show proof that BE flights from DSA [pro rata] are dearer than the others you mention as I have huge doubt about that. Are flights to CDG etc full on the 100+ seater?

Those multi million passenger airports can offer 'cheap' flights because they have the demand through having a much bigger population catchment and hence natural underlying demand. Like I say it's Teesside all over again. I remember the whoops of joy when BMI baby were flying all over the place - but after the subsidy were those routes making a profit using the natural demand of the catchment population?

We will never know the details behind that airport/airline deal as with every confidential deal and we will not know the yields from each route. There is a BE/DSA poster advert 5 minutes walk from LBA that shows flights from £20+.

What we can approximately deduce is load factor from the (rather recently unreliable and distant) CAA statistics. Perhaps some DSA enthusiasts could work out some of those load factors and post them on here? Berlin, Paris, Jersey etc? It does not tell the whole story by a long shot but it gives an inkling.
