Being a legacy carrier is no guarantee of survival either though. Look at the recent news re Alitalia (albeit a long time in the making) & look what happened with Sabena.

Smith

FlyGlobespan also have some lucrative Ad Hoc contracts which keeps the cash rolling in even when the passenger bookings are driving some airlines to the wall, in addition to 'Global Travel' which brings in a hell a lot of revenue from travellers from 'North of the Border'.

I think a lot of people from outside Scotland don't realise how big Global Travel/FlyGlobespan is.

GSM at MME

The GSM fleet for Summer 09 is 3 x 767, 1 x 757, 2 x 737-700 and 5 x 737-800

So far there timetable requires

1 x 737 for ABZ
3 x 737 for EDI
3 x 737 for GLA and 1 x 767 for GLA and BFS to SFB
1 x 767 for YYC and YVR services
1 x 767 for MOD services

This means that all the aircraft are being fully utilised.

Meaning no spare aircraft to operate any MME services.

Have noticed other bases have almost full timetables and there is nothing for MME. Also the current Winter 08/09 timetable finishes Sunday 11th Jan. If GSM where staying at MME TFS inparticular would be continuing until Summer timetable. Also 11th Jan gives GSM 4 to 6 weeks to prepare the 733 for it's exit from service.

Looks like GSM are pulling out of MME. Anyone able to confirm this or are
they looking at getting another 737NG for Summer 09

Baladdy.

Still showing 2 spare A/c, any ideas as to what they may be up to.
Regards,
Jubilee.

They could maybe get their hands on some 738's 739's cheap from XL !

4567 31st Aug 2008 13:49

Are GSM selling the 2 737-600's? If so surely there going to get a couple of new 737NG'S!

Is Global Holidays part of the Globespan Group?

Strong rumour from someone who has no sources and does nothing but stir up unsubstantiated nonsense? Again.

Deeko01 4th Sep 2008 06:33

how good would that be if they did buy someone up, certainly would be a right smack in the face to the people who say they will go bust!!!

We will see...

This one made me chuckle, FGS buying one of the worlds largest tour operators?.
I'll have a pint of what the instigator of that rumour is on!.:)

4567 4th Sep 2008 15:31

As great as that sounds i somehow doubt it will be TCX.

I would love to see GSM buy Jet2 that would be great and would astonish and put them in a state of shock especially for all those on the Jet2 forum saying GSM won't be around for long!

Have to wait an see though! Wouldn't get any hopes up.:)

N707ZS 4th Sep 2008 15:46

European might be a better buyer for Jet 2, wrecks and relics is more down their line.

luvly jubbly 4th Sep 2008 23:42

I thought remenants of Zoom most likely.

Jet2 have 737s and 757s albeit very old ones.
But not such a bad idea.....
They also have a NCL presence which would tie in neatly with a closure of the MME base

4567 5th Sep 2008 14:56

Never thought of that Luvly Jubbly.

See Press are now starting to notice GSM haven't released there winter timetable!

BUDGET carrier flyglobespan said it was still in discussion this week with Durham Tees Valley Airport over its summer 2009 flight schedule. - nebusiness.co.uk

GLA-SFB Seating

Hi Folks,

A question for all those in the know regarding my upcoming flight to SFB from glasgow on the 17th October- 1st November.

I am about to pre book my business class seats and would like to know from anyone with any real knowledge as to the leg room in businnes class (I know they are using a plane with less seat pitch) but wonder what seats are best.

The very front seats (Excluding the flight deck!!!!) are available (Seats 1A, 1C & 2D, 2F) Although I think there is a bulk head in front of these does this increase or decrease the leg room? What would you all say are the best business class seats that are available????

Is there an age restriction for those seated at emergency exists?? The eldest will be 70 on the date of travel.

Many thanks in advance to all those who answer.

Wee Willy McGorbals 5th Sep 2008 23:30

Don't know about emergency exit seats, but I gather ANYONE over the age of
60 will be offered a left hand seat on the flight deck, (own zimmer frame required)!:E
