Loobysue, the company a strong financial position, it's the speculators that are predicting its demise, based on the loss of last year and there has been no other evidence supplied by anyone to support this allegation further. The loss caused the company no debt, and it has significant cash and property assests as mentioned many times on here.

Insurance companies are speculators to and assess risk on the information they have and current events, Globespan was uninsurable last year against faliure for passengers when the chaos of last year was evident, guess what Globespan are still here!! in a much stronger position now and will continue to be so into the future unless the press and other organisation continue to scaremonger as they are currently doing. Its a shame you've become victim to this scaremongering too.

You hear certain things on the rumour mills and one is that GSM MIGHT be in trouble. But then so MIGHT a lot of other airlines!

However, In this current climate i'm suprised, that you would be suprised if GSM did go under. I don't want to upset employees as it is only rumour, so I will merely quote the facts and not speculate.

- They do not have the best reputation. Watchdog did them no favours to start with!
- They are a fairly small outfit offering low cost travel. Escalating fuel prices will hit the smaller lo-co's before anyone else as profit margins are already squeezed. They are offering a low cost product on basic equipment and there is only a certain amount someone will pay before starting to look at a scheduled carrier.
- They have been desperate to find a market for their canadian route in the southwest. They have tried three airports in Three years. Any loyal customers they made in EXT would have been told to go to BRS for this Summer. Now they will have to move to CWL! If I was a customer, I would be pretty peeved! Previous Zoom customers may be relieved that the route has been picked up, but it is a different product than what they have been used to and is to a different airport and is indirect.

This is not an obituary for GSM but i'm saying that they are likely to be going through the hardest economical time since the airline was started and they are not in as strong a position as your EZY's and FR's in the world of lo-co's.

Lets hope i'm wrong and at the end of the CC you can all call me a ######!

Birdscarere - lots of airlines flying around have not so perfect reputations so if that is a prerequisite for going under then we should all be a little scared and two words for you 'hedged fuel'

The reason I am scared to a point is i was caught out with XL, booked it direct and have lost out as i used my debit card,which was not a Visa debit card, had a look on globespan and yes it was a good price but another site mentioned taking the extra insurance out to cover me and also give myself peace of mind, I was only trying to shut the door to make sure this horse didnt get out of the stable with out me on it back, and to my horror it said they did not cover the airline, I have never used them before for this sort of cover so i dont know how they decide who and who not to cover, I just thought in light of all the mixed reviews it might have been useful info, sorry if you think i have wasted your time

No, you had a valid point and I hope that you have found some reassurance - its just that this particular thread gets lots of anti GSM posting, which gets annoying and very repetitive, so genuine posters asking for advice/help can get caught up in that.

I hope that you find a holiday that suits you and gives you peace of mind. I do think that GSM will be ok though and if you book with a credit card you will be fine.

It seems that warnings fall on deaf ears and some are even dimwitts or otherwise.

But another warning. If the new thread gets dragged down, if there is any unfounded GSM bashing, abuse, threats or slagging off other posters it will get closed again and there will not be another.
