Fire Category

I can't really add too much to that, the airport is currently CAT8 fire cover (CAT9 available on request) and would need to be CAT9 permanently for a aircraft bigger than an A330 daily. That i think would require a increase in manpower, and some other variables thrown in. Thats as much as my little bit of knowledge stretches to.

a completely new scheduled destination, it will operate Saturdays from 27/4 to 27/9.....keep rolling them out Jet 2.

This looks strange.....I actually posted this after Bombadiers post about Split

SPU announced by Jet2 - weekly (Sat) for S09

757 Speedbrakes 3rd Sep 2008 18:01

I got told this from the Chief Executive when he was onboard the aircraft the last saturday but thought I'd keep it quiet for fear of being shot down by fellow PPRUNE'ers!!

2nd busiest airport in Croatia. I hear it is quite a nice destination and pretty cheap too! :ok:

Not sure if it will be on the 737 or 757 but as Belfast are losing their 75 for good and Newcastle are rumored to be having 2 757's next summer (as like last summer) I imagine it will be on the 757.

Oh, ACE will be a new summer route too!

Not so good news for all those on this website who predicted jet2 would of withdrawn from NCL by next summer....................

Any more news on MONARCH next year????

How often does he appear on the aircrafts? Does he come on and give you all a pep talk and tell you all a few secret new routes or does he give you all a bolloking for using too much fuel :}

I saw him last year on a Jet2 aircraft I was on and my parents kept egging me to go speak to him but the only thing I could think of was "Hi Mr Meeson, fancy giving me a cheque for £60k and I will come fly for you." So obviously I didn't approach him, I think I know where he would have told me to go .....

Spot on!! With the news that every current route from NCL is profitable. :ok:

It's the first time I've spoken to him in almost 2 years. It's usually best in aviation to avoid those at the top for fear of 'foot in mouth' syndrome, which I just narrowly avoided! :oh:

Believe it or not, he doesn't really have too much say on recruitment and would only refer you to the flight deck recruitment manager or the careers page of the website. :(

It looks like it. There was an ad on the NCL website but was taken off not too long after that.

Passport Control

What is it with the rudeness of Newcastle passport control staff?

I am regular SLF.

1. I have been told off for not taking my passport out of it's wallet.
2. I have been told off for using a phone whilst walking the through the maze of barriers before passport control (I fully appreciate no phone can be used at the desk).
3. I have been told off not standing directly in front of the desk (I was stood between the side and the front

It's not just one person. It's the lot of them every week.

ACARS, you're just a naughty boy!

ACARS You are absolutely 100% correct !:D:D they are in their own little world, I've noticed it all on numerous occasions of late. My wife & I put it down to the fact that with the exception of the inspectors on the desks then they lack tact & judgement, have little to do that requires a brain & spend most of their day (or night) trying to justify their existence:ugh:

SWBKCB 6th Sep 2008 19:32

Came back through last sunday afternoon with the family, and didn't notice any negative attitude from those on duty at passport control - quite the contrary. Suppose it just depends who is on duty?

dougieb2 6th Sep 2008 21:23

Ditto

A few days ago I too got told off for standing at the side of her desk. I had to stand directly in front of her or she could not see my face properly.

A typical NE welcome

SWBKCB 7th Sep 2008 10:40

Guess I've just been lucky then, as I've done four return trips through NCL this summer and don't recognise these comments - staff and attitudes were as good if not better than the other airports I've used.

In particularly the security checks seem to be working better this year - more staff and machines and better organised. Service in some of the shops could be improved, but still a lot better than I experienced in BCN last week...

757 Speedbrakes 7th Sep 2008 11:38

Regarding secruity;

Whoever decided that staff can now go through the oversize baggage area instead of having to go through passenger secruity should be given a medal and a large pay rise!!!! :ok:

Lets hope this will now stay the norm!! :D

Unfortunately common sense doesn't appear to be very 'common' at Newcastle Airport but if anyone on this website knows who made the decision please pass on the thanks from all the flight crews!!!!

Staff channel through Out of gauge (Over sized baggage)

This was sugested by the now CEO years ago but, as always, the DFT objected. Thankfully commonsence has taken presidence in the this case and eventually staff can use this channel :ok:. Its a shame its taken so long. All the problems last summer in security search area would have been dramatically reduced if staff had been able to use out of gauge.

Robert William 7th Sep 2008 20:08

Its works but only when they have the staff to man it! Over the past few days they have been redirecting veryone back upstairs to the main search area (often back down again and then back up) infact this morning the out of gauge was closed completly and pax with oversized items had to be told to take them to the search area!!!!

Brad the Impaler 7th Sep 2008 23:04

This was sugested by the now CEO years ago but, as always, the DFT objected.
Complete and utter rubbish! He was the one who completely rejected the suggestion out of hand each and every time it was made by others with more foresight than him. To now claim it was his suggestion is tosh! Why on earth would the DfT have any objection to a dedicated staff channel at NCL when they exist at many other places. The real reason is down to cost as usual (evidenced by the post above from Robert William).
