Re: Mon

Its true im afraid.. Monarch are completely withdrawing from Newcastle, whether its due to the credit crunch or not enough profit! Thomas Cook area manager confirmed this to me earlier =[=[

transwede 18th Aug 2008 11:49

It seems Monarch may well just only be operating next years TCX charter to SFB, according to TCX.

Does anyone know if NCL will be affected by this strike by one of the handling agents?

Jamesair 18th Aug 2008 15:42

According to an article I read over the weekend, NCL was one of the airports which would be affected.

nclops 18th Aug 2008 22:11

newcastle not affected by the strikes.......yet!!

Emirates Dubai

Just booked Dubai with KLM in October for £321 as opposed to £559 Emirates are charging. Would preferred to have supported the Emirates route but difficult to justify the £238 difference in price especially with short connections in AMS and overnight flights both ways. Looks like the cheapest economy ticket to Dubai direct is £559 with Emirates at any time.

An interesting story in tonight's chronicle about a Viking flight to Crete where apparently 150 passengers on board the plane ready for take-off were told either half of them had to get off or all their luggage would be unloaded as the plane was too heavy to take off!!

Sounds a bit odd, any one know the whole/true story?

Ronald Reagan had a solution to people that repeatedly hold the country to ranson, especially on holiday days.

I flew UAE to DXB a few weeks back for £360 rtn this was during the quiet months (may/june), I guess the price reflects how well the route is doing. Must say Emirates service very good.

" Must say Emirates service very good"

Pleased to hear it, soon to try it for the first time.

anyone else heard anything on the 'flyglobespan' rumours ?

it's all over the MME thread but interestingly not much here

Flyglopespan

Maxtoon - don't think its been mentioned on this thread as I suspect its a non starter. I can't see them moving from MME to NCL given that the routes they operate are probably sufficiently served by existing LCC operators. They can't compete with EZY or LS on price or Customer service. The only LCC that could come in and make a go competing with the current based operators at NCL would be FR.

Having said that the airline business is a strange one so anything is possible I suppose

I cannot believe the Journal ran a storey based on a couple of plane spotters on the MME pages!! Now I know why I stopped ready that comic!

Viking Airlines

deltahotel9 groundstaff have had some trouble with the Viking HER flight, in terms of weight issues etc.

From what I hear, each week the MD aircraft (in VIK colours, but operated by Skywings) leaves baggage behind in NCL. I think this week it has 100+ bags. Reason given is weight restrictions - though OHY operate Turkey with MD88 (is this aircraft better?).

Can't imagine passengers or the charter operator is amused. :=

Ops Guy 20th Aug 2008 12:35

Obviously these are performance related issues. :{ Runway in use and wind could have also been contributing factors. Oh and the fact that the aircraft are

I find this story totally hilarious and without any foundation what so ever. As said it's source can be traced to the posting of 'Reggies' on the MME thread who clearly have nothing positive to post. A 'journo' was noted making reference to their fantasy requesting further details!. The clever bit about all this is than in GSM as quoted "refusing to deny rumours" places pressure on MME to consider cost reductions to retain GSM. 'IF' a gap was perceived in NCL routes then in my view RYR are more likely to express interest. Having said this then it appears more likely in short term that limited cuts across many routes will be experienced for 2009.:{

Viking MD80 series

In view of the unfortunate accident in Madrid involving a similar type, perhaps Ops Guy should give SKY news the benefit of his obviously not inconsiderable knowledge and expertise on the subject. :E Wanchor :ugh:

I'm sure it would put the travelling public's mind at rest knowing that a spokesman with such expertise exists within the Apron Control department at Newcastle Airport.

Mr Angry from Purley 20th Aug 2008 17:50

One suspects as they Viking flight departed around 0130am the crews didnt have enough duty hours to undertake a tech stop for fuel.

On a similar note I used to work for a Company called Trans European Airways UK and they were a new start up with 737-300 aircraft and commenced flying Newcastle to Tenerife (or maybe Heraklion). The -300's were delayed so we had no choice but to use our 737-200's. The first flight stopped at EMA where I rushed out to the aircraft to speak to JD the Captain. He was stopping for fuel so he could continue EMA-TFS - There was also no way he was going to tell the punters he'd left the bags behind in Newcastle for fear of a riot. :\

Doesn't the Journal still have the hole in the top left hand corner where you can tie a piece of string for the netty!
