The word 'incentive' seems to be drawing some speculation about what it actually was especially from the Tories who seem to think it means cash. Definitely getting the route some more publicity!

And could Bourgas and Dalaman be the next routes from Cardiff by Wizz? A photo of part of the Wizz magazine was posted elsewhere with them down as new routes. Nothing onsale though.

Yeah I noticed that the Wizz interview does list both BOJ & DLM as destinations from CWL……could this be new for 2022 ??
It was also commented elsewhere by the Wizz boss that they never have a one aircraft base and always like to base more so hopefully there maybe some further announcement from Wizz soon.
Be great to have some positive good news for CWL and hope both Wizz and FR go on to expand further.

WestJet have added a few new U.K. routes today to both EDI & GLA…….737 Max…….commented elsewhere that there “maybe more to come” form WestJet.
Wouldn’t it be a good “catch” for CWL…..considering how popular YYZ was back in the days of Air Transat and Zoom. VFR to Canada was always popular.

Indeed it was, however that was 20 odd years ago, sadly many of the "rellies" have died off so the VFR demand will be much diminished. Same sentiments have been expressed with regard to BHX, and I suspect NCL, LBA and EXT too. Mind you, if the economics are right then &37 Max operations from regional airports could well be a go-er. Time will tell what Westjet decides.

Would be nice and I know they were on the Welsh government's list of potential airlines for target long haul routes a few years ago now but it would be surprising if they did turn up at CWL! Probably end up at Manchester or Birmingham!

Totally agree with you there, VFR may have fizzled out but YYZ would be a great resurrection and nice “plus” for CWL…..obviously all Covid dependent now. Before Zoom sadly failed we had 3 weekly flights to Canada (x2 YYZ x1 YVR) with 757 & 767 all with excellent load factors too. Zoom failed partly due to Zoom U.K. at LGW competing against the big boys but the Canadian sector was so much stronger but could not survive.

Looks like Wizz maybe be about to re-sell CWL-SSH again…..this route was removed from their booking engine when announced the CWL base was delayed to March 2022…..however it is now once again listed as a CWL destination (although not available to book yet).
Could we see more from Wizz ?

Good seeing AGP go all summer next year instead of peak season only but still baffles why we’ve not seen more from FR……they seem to favour the slow approach.
Would imagine DUB would go daily eventually too and BCN was late being released for this year too. Be great if there was another Canaries route such as LPA ?

Nice to have the ATR 72 operating through and SOU back on the boards (didn’t Manx do this route on certain days in the 90’s?) but what is going to happen with the based J41 in between the VLY sectors ? I thought the BHD introduction was to utilise this aircraft……..is this going to filled by another destination in lieu ? Or has the VLY relaunch been postponed further to January 2022 hence no based J41 and split load with SOU as a result?
On the Eastern webpage, it is now showing ABZ, VLY & SOU as destinations and no mention of BHD…maybe just a glitch there.

I had the same thought about a previous CWL-SOU route, Letsflycwl.
Was it not part of a BRU-CWL route with some services calling at SOU en route? I suspect it might have been after Manx Airlines Europe became a franchise carrier for British Airways in the early 1990s, later to become British Regional Airlines (later acquired by British Airways), and after that British Airways Citiexpress following a merger with BA-owned Brymon Airways and finally BAConnect that was sold to Flybe in 2007.
There is an hourly direct rail route between Cardiff and Southampton with a journey time of around two and a half hours so it will be interesting to see what sort of take-up there is on the CWL-SOU and SOU-CWL. sectors.
The road journey between the two cities and city regions is an awkward one.

Manx/BA used to advertise as direct flights to BRU & CDG but it was not unheard of them stopping off at SOU and vice versa.
I think on top of these they did also operate to SOU as a stand alone destination with a J41…..not that frequent but think it was 1-2 flights a week….most probably an attempt to make revenue on a “ferry” flight positioning the aircraft.
Fares showing £65 one way to/from SOU at the moment…..be interesting to see the passenger uptake on this route.

I'd be very surprised if Anglesey resumes so it might become a more permanent thing.
The odd thing about Eastern booking engine is that you can only book Cardiff to Belfast as part of the return flight in a Belfast to Cardiff return booking.

I thought they signed a 4 year contract with the Welsh Government to operate VLY ? I imagine they’d have to return once restrictions change again or that airport in VLY will be a white elephant.
