Nope I wasn’t but they will need more than the couple they have and
also will need higher ratings? Unless of course they are away now on courses while the airport is closed?

Would guess for a seven day operation 15 hours..guess per day..they would need more than two controllers?

Depending on Loganair's SOPs they may not need a full ATC service at all. It's sparse airspace and an ungenested field and it's 4 rotations a day ...

Full ATC service? Think they will...
Imagine the subsequent court of inquiry...” So you operated a scheduled service into an airfield with limitedor no ATC services?.. ouch...

I guess that CAX won't be employing met staff so it is likely to be the ATC staff doing the wx observations that shall include leaving the tower to go to the white box on stilts to check the temperatures ... One controller can't control and go walkabout at the same time so likely they'll have assistant controllers also.

Surely in 2018 they have instrumentation in the white box which displays its data in the Control Room?

Already several of the airfields in the Western Isles which receive regular services by Loganair are operated with AFIS not ATC. In the Orkneys the regular Islander services fly into airfields without even an A/G service, though this is day VFR only.

Carlisle have been providing METARs for a good few years. I suspect a modern technological solution may be found that obviates the need for a controller to go out and look in a white box to check the ambient temperature.

As Tagron says, like they have been doing every day of the week for decades at Campbeltown, Islay, Tiree and Barra.
The difference at Carlisle is that they have already had publicly-available instrument approach procedures for years. Changing them to be for use by approved operators only (as is the case at Campbeltown, Islay, Tiree and Barra) would I suspect be tricky. The additional problem is that at Carlisle there's a significant risk of military traffic associated with Spadeadam wazzing through the instrument pattern. That would up the assessed level of risk carried out under CAP 1122, making it less likely they'd get approval for IAPs with AFISO only. Similarly, since Carlisle has a significant amount of visual circuit traffic, the difficulties of safely integrating that with instrument traffic with AFISO only make it unlikely CAA would approve that.

Took a good luck at the work at the airport today.
Terminal outer structure complete, lots of internal work including walls ! Needed..
Car park in front nearly finished..not sure about apron.

The runway still needs a bit of work..I’m still not sure about that huge dip at the west end..I thought that was going to be filled in?No sign of lighting?
Could be some interesting landings on that direction!

In all massive progress..still think it will be a white elephant and the Carlisle economy would have been better served by duelling the A69 eastwards?

The A69 certainly needs dualling, but the money required to do that is on a different scale altogether.

Just quote your own post and go to the bottom of the reply where it says 'additional options' then go to 'manage attachments' and add your photos.

The car park, which will include four disabled spots and 66 other spaces,

Weve been overwhelmed by the messages of support that we have received over social media and everyone I have met in the region over the last few months is so excited about this project. I would especially like to thank our partners, Loganair, who are just brilliant. Tickets are going fast, so make sure to book online.

The move comes after Stobart Group was awarded 4.95m by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership to develop the airport.
Interesting! And our mayor won't give 500 K at Dtva.

photos

I was in the area so took photos of the Terminal and new runway . Please can anyone tell me how to upload them.
Also got chatting to a few insure plus the Stobart manager . I'd asked if I could go into the building site to take photos.
Whilst discussing the larger than expected Terminal. I asked about other airlines. His response was they are talking to several one close to coming thru with ,' jet destinations'.
I'm not convinced..
Even if the terminal a seperate gloomy building is larger than implied

Try looking at www.imgbb.com. You can create an account for free and then upload your photos and use the created urls to copy to this site. Easy to do - even I managed it!!

Did you check how much of the building is used as the terminal?

Unless the plans used to obtain planning permission are incorrect, I think you'll find it's the other way round.
