Well there's a surprise, I guess the directors are too busy acting out their roles in the Stobart Head Office Pantomime. They must be gratified with all the laughs they are getting, the audience may even start throwing things soon!!

July 8: However, along with the shortage of qualified Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) available to meet training and regulatory deadlines, some areas of the construction programme require additional time to achieve regulatory approval. “We have been working around the clock and physically we are ready. But it is extremely important that this major project... is safe and operationally compliant so as to be sustainable in the long term. This requires both a full complement of trained and experienced operational staff being in place from commencement – to deliver a sustainable flight timetable – and also an infrastructure which fully meets regulatory requirements."

Well I bet Stobart's will be able to park a lot of trucks on that runway , that's about all the commercial traffic its going to see , what a shambles. I feel sorry for all the GA tenants

Was aware of the NOTAM which infers that the lack of APP and IAP is a temporary measure. As I previously mentioned the revised AIP pages (effective 13 September) included with the Supplement have deleted any reference to APP, however they still include reference to the IAP charts. Therefore one can speculate that if the IAPs are going to available an APP is to be provided, but apparently not provided by EGNC ATC.

Maybe Southend, can we expect an announcement shortly that they have now decided to go with APP and a Remote Tower at Southend? That will buy them another year plus delay to sort it out- enough time to get all the other problems sorted??????

Meanwhile, airport website still advertising commercial flights starting 3rd September and no mention of the fact that the airfield is closed until at least the end of the month

The interview with Andrew Tinkler does not give us any new insight into the issues. It is disappointing that the story that ATC shortages have delayed the opening is still being peddled. Whilst the problem of approach controllers did have an impact on scheduled services being available, I understand that the newly-employed controllers have been undergoing training at Southend. The real issue that Stobarts do not want to speak about is that the airport is still closed to all fixed wing aviation, including GA which does not require the same level of ATC control, because the CAA, who have been visiting weekly, are still dissatisfied with the works and have refused to sign them off and certify the airport as fit for operations until remedial work is completed.
For the life of me I do not understand why Stobarts have not come clean about the remedial work required. I'm sure that most of us would have been sympathetic as we have all been there with major projects. As it is, the subterfuge has just left a bad taste and encouraged a lack of trust in Stobarts as an organisation. Coming after a total lack of engagement with stakeholders and a string of broken promises with regard to when the airport would reopen to GA (anyone remember in November when we were told 19 would be available in February?) this has all sowed doubts as to whether they are trustworthy and have real intentions to operate a sustainable operation.

Despite once being a driving force behind the airport project, I don't think Tinkler has been involved in a while so not surprised he didn't really have any think new to add.

The "Carlisle Lake District Airport" F****b*** account really is a laugh a minute at the moment - there's annoying your customer base, but this seems to be an attempt to deliberately wind them up!!

Such a shame they never got the CAA go ahead to open for commercial services within the timescale that they had initially announced - or re-announced! Maybe 3rd time luck with services starting in 2019?

I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed and the Terminal and roads and car park is far better than I envisaged as I thought that the original plans involved the Terminal being situated in a small corner of the ground floor of the adjacent new office/distribution centre but this looks 100 times better and it actually looks like a proper airport.
I wish Carlisle Lakeside Airport all the very best for the future as obviously a lot of investment has been made to bring this project to where it is today.
I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed and the Terminal and roads and car park is far better than I envisaged as I thought that the original plans involved the Terminal being situated in a small corner of the ground floor of the adjacent new office/distribution centre but this looks 100 times better and it actually looks like a proper airport.
I wish Carlisle Lakeside Airport all the very best for the future as obviously a lot of investment has been made to bring this project to where it is today.

The actual passenger terminal facility IS only a small corner of the ground floor of the building you can see here - the rest of this building is indeed allocated for Stobart offices...
