Would depend on handling agents and whether your expectations are from a drivers point of view or SLF?

As the DART system is nothing to do with Thameslink will it be a paid service or free like Birmingham?

I seem to remember very early artist's impressions showed covered escalators from the station to the terminal. Given the serviceability of the station and airport lifts, L&D hospital would need to have been doubled in size to take all the heart attacks of passengers having to walk up when escalators got the out of service sign.

Nothing in life is free so there will be a plan to get the money back over a number of years and years and years..... and years.

The airport will probably achieve 18 million passengers without it so no doubt the Dart is needed for the next 18 million passengers.

4th January and despite the airport going back into its winter slumber it has run out of car park spaces in the multistory due to the closure of the short term car park.

The result is chaos with the traffic queuing from Parkway. It already feels like mid summer.

It was inevitable there were going to be major issues with parking due to the loss of the short term car park. The surprise is that it has happened so early after its closure when the airport is on its winter timetable.

The mid term is running at reduced capacity as well, which will become permanent when the Dart route is being constructed. There was a plan to put in a temporary multistory in this car park to help ease parking problems in the CTA but the programme was abandoned late last year.

Never assume,
A car had lost a wheel or something on the first corner into the drop off zone, cars had to enter via the exit loop near delta and then let some cars out, etc, minibuses had to 2 point turn to enter via the exit loop.
This went on for over half an hour till some head scratching and decision was made to manually lift and shove the car into the drop off zone, i watched its all and got caught up in it whilst leaving from the cta. fire crews arrived but it had been moved by then.
Lots of cars were swapping lanes and asking questions to the airport staff dealing with it.
One consequence of having single lane entry into the drop off zone i suppose.
It was all running smoothly up until then.

Thanks for the update about the knackered car. I thought it was a bit early for traffic problems but I would think there will be issues later on in the year as the short term was always full in the summer and the multistory's top 2 floors were not equal to the lost spaces of the short term.

I was in Jersey recently, & heard on the local radio station that Easyjet Luton Jersey was going to be year round as from this year.

Sun Express to Antalya operates Monday and Friday, so they will not be operating for TUI

Currently the airport has 9 airlines operating passenger flights. Only 3 are actually UK registered companies, with one of them (Titan) doing just the one flight per week. I'm sure this fact is insignificant, but it must be the lowest number of UK operators since the 1960's.

Since 1967 now I've had a think. Autair, Britannia and British Midland had been regular then for a few years, then along came Monarch in 1968 making it 4 UK airlines. Channel and Dan Air made it 6 in 1969. Channel didn't operate 1970-72 but we had Skyways in their various incarnations instead 1970-72. Invicta and Donaldson made it 8 UK operators in 1971.
Mind you, the total number of UK passenger airlines is barely half what it was in 1968. I can only come up with 11 now, compared to at least 20 in 1968. Numerous takeovers, mergers etc. coupled with the trend for non-UK registered airlines to set up major UK based operations have all had a big impact.

Seems to be less UK airlines now, which might account for that fact.

Heathrow has just three British registered airlines in operation at the moment. Once Wizzair UK is up and running, LTN will gain it’s fourth.

Pretty sure its 4 at the moment anyway: easyJet, TUI, Titan and Thomas Cook. I guess people haven't been counting Thomas Cook as they're purely seasonal but so are foreign airlines such as Sun Express and Iberia/Air Nostrum. Not that it really matters, there's still far too many people using a space thats too small for all of them. Hopefully once the new main terminal opens in March we'll start to see some improvements.

When the terminal extension opens there will be still a long slog ahead to finish the building work including remodelling of the ground floor of the existing terminal to remove the existing retail outlets to allow for the security area to be increased.

Also the baggage reclaim area, immigration hall, pier b and the finishing off of the departure lounge. Must be a good 9 months of work left if not longer on the building.
