The short term car park is now all but empty apart from those who abandoned their cars at the airport as they head for home.

Maybe next week the builders move in?

I know future proofing isn’t LTN’s strongest but you can see it today with the peir 1 being filled in and peir 2 being built

The re painting of the east apron to acomidate extra stands

The room for taxiway Fox

It’s all small things but they are helping increase capacity airside by a small fraction

Also a rumour heard today is that taxiway echo is scheduled in for a resurface because of the broken drainage and massive holes all of which helps the taxiway slightly float on a wet day

Taxiway Echo has a slope of 1.7 degrees which helps with the run off

It would be great if we didn't have to talk in riddles Falcon666.

La Compagnie for those that are wondering, and yes, for mx.

Always best to spit it out as I was thinking that it was a Monarch frame.

Yes it does help but the actual drainage is all cracked and broken. They just keep filling it in but its all sinking

It took a major effort to connect the main apron the the northern apron due to the height difference. So much so that that part of the existing main apron had to be dug up and regraded.

It appears that indeed the airport will go ahead with a temporary drop off zone in what will later become the car hire centre. This temporary zone will be located close to Taxiway Delta and next to the the proposed second multistory and will open in May, which will mean a major walk for all passengers.

Work on the the second multistory appears to be scheduled to start in June.

The short term car park which will accommodate both the temporary DOZ and the second multistory is now empty with the passenger bridge closed off.

The 12 month overrun in completing the terminal seems to be a costly affair for the airport, as the previous quoted cost of £110 million has been replaced by £150 million in many publications.

In the next few months the new retail areas will open up in the departure lounge although the weaving path past the shops is now open. The areas are zoned including affordable luxury and luxury. I would doubt that would be of any interest to the majority of Luton’s passengers although the airport desperately needs to add a bit of class.

The short term car park has sat empty all week. Portable tall metal fencing panels have been delivered to close off the site although access is already difficult due to the placing of crowd control barriers across all access points.

With the completion of the taxiway Bravo extension before Christmas there are no signs that the contractor has moved on to start work on the extension to Alpha or the new taxiway Foxtrot.

The canopy is the one I am looking forward to seeing when it's finally installed!

Not as much as I am. There is not a hint yet that it will be started soon as lorries still have to park on hardcore by the terminal frontage. A couple of days ago a massive crane was there.

I am of the opinion that the glass wave that was dropped from the artists impressions has been replaced by a job lot from Billy Smarts Circus due to its shape. Just hope it isn't red and white with little flags on top. If it is it will go well with the hot dog, coffee and pizza stands that greet all the passengers now outside the terminal. Just need a hoopla stand for the passenger experience to be complete. It certainly makes the Rumanians feel at home.

The portable metal fence has been installed with the first portocabin now on site in the short term car park. A digger is scrapping away the loose stones that border the kerbs.

I totally agree wholeheartedly with everything that you have mentioned but just a slight correction it's 'Romanians' :-)

Any ideas on the new retailers in departures, apart from Ted Baker which we can see in the photo?

Confirmed as Nextofficial, Oriel Brasserie who are in 2 terminals at Heathrow Oriel Grande Brasserie and are opening for Easter, plus maybe Fiorella bags, Habiliments, Pinko, Dant, Insignia, Kurt Geiger and River Isle as they all appear on promotional material for the airport plus others. Enrique Tomas has opened or is about to open but I think they are in the old bit. Out of interest they flog chunks of ham. You can buy a whole ham from them for up to 225 Euros

Not sure how much the airport will benefit out of this but there will be additional services to Littlehampton and a new service to Rainham.

Not much but London Bridge coming back online and CrossRail (Elizabeth Line) at Farringdon is going to open up much more access without having to tube it!
