Monarch 4
dboy - please tell us a bit about your experience so we can understand why you feel that way?
How long ago did you lose your job? How much experience flying the A320 do you have, and how recent was it?
I hope you find something soon.

To put it another way, put yourself in the shoes of Easyjet management. You have two choices; a pool of candidates who are highly experienced on your current aircraft types and are well familiar with the routes you serve, or a pool of new pilots who will take several years to offer the same benefit. Surely that's an easy choice. If your high end sports car needs a brake job, are you going to hire the shop who's been working on the same model for years, or the newbie who spent his training working on Fiat Pandas?

No no i am still working for an airline and have no intention to leave.
It is just that i find this really unfair for those looking for a job and i can imagine this is a slap in their face.
That is why i say :"join the queue". Everybody is equal when looking for a job (no matter if you are a victim of the Monarch debacle or the highly paid captain with emirates who wants to come back to the UK).

Your lack of empathy is concerning. Do try for just a minute to put yourself in someone else's place. You might find your view of the world is a tad too "black and white".

Lack of empathy? I do feel sorry for guys, but what makes you in the end so different than other fellow pilots also looking for a job? What gives you the right to jump the queue? Just because you are coming from Monarch?
From company perspective i understand, they just want to fill in the gap, but from companies you cant expect any moral.

What 'queue' is that?! BA have been taking on bus rated people in preference to non rated people for some time but I don't hear you banging on about that.
I'd love to live in the world of ethical recruitment but as far as I can see the 'queue' is defined by them who are offering employment - rightly or wrongly. In this case I have no issue...

It can be a tough world out there. Having had the experience of suddenly finding myself resting when the company I worked for ceased trading it's not really an experience I would wish on my worst enemy.
In my case I watched some of the pilots I had trained walked straight into jobs whilst it took me about 6 months to secure a position - sometimes you can have too much experience!
I say good luck to all Monarch crew and staff looking for a job.

I've been on both sides - one of many who found themselves out of work - and one of the lucky ones who got to help recruit and train the recently unemployed into a growing airline. In the first instance I was fortunate that someone saw my rating and experience had value and they quickly helped me to land on my feet. In the second, we chose the best candidates we could find. The pilots from the recently defunct carrier stood head and shoulders above the rest of the pile of CVs in terms of their experience and ability to "fit in" quickly.
You can moan all you like about your perception of fairness, but in the end, as the one doing the hiring holds all of the cards, your suggestion that the situation is somehow unfair is, quite frankly, petty whinging. I suggest you choose another hill to fight for, because you'll surely die fighting a losing cause on this one.

Maintenance is carried out at Kemble. G-ZBAP was stored at Kemble as M-RAFF before being leased to Monarch. Most recently two ERJ-145's were stored at Kemble and have now returned to service.

It's a common practice that when aircraft are to be stored they go to an airport or airfield that offers attractive deals for parking.
A previous employer of mine folded in 1982, 35 YEARS AGO, and even then to park a DC10 at LGW cost £52 per hour, £1,248 per day!

monarch pilots are highly trained, loyal, and now there is a huge pool of type rated and experienced people who other reputable airlines are now wishing to snap up in the likes of virgin ezy tui titan and BA -
even ryanair & Norwegian are interested.
pleased to see that the cabin crew also have also been thrown lifeboats as carriers need CC...best of luck to them all
its is the ground ops folk that will find jobs harder to come by sadly

Like i said before, equal changes and equal opportunities for everybody. No matter the background. And if the ex-Monarch are as good as you claim, well than the selection would not be a problem at all.
Good luck to you'all.
Good luck to you'all.
You own a garage and you are doing OK, but it is a competitive market. You need another engineer.
Do you select from the pile of CV's;
A cadet who has done an HND in car maintenance at the local Polytechnic, worked at Kwik-Fit on Saturdays, and who after a few years will be perfectly competent?,
Or do you select the engineer from the garage down the road who was originally trained by Audi and who has worked on cars for 5 years?
Which one of those two will be able to work unsupervised, and tackle any job presented from day one?
