And there's the rub.

I've been on both sides - one of many who found themselves out of work - and one of the lucky ones who got to help recruit and train the recently unemployed into a growing airline. In the first instance I was fortunate that someone saw my rating and experience had value and they quickly helped me to land on my feet. In the second, we chose the best candidates we could find. The pilots from the recently defunct carrier stood head and shoulders above the rest of the pile of CVs in terms of their experience and ability to "fit in" quickly.

You can moan all you like about your perception of fairness, but in the end, as the one doing the hiring holds all of the cards, your suggestion that the situation is somehow unfair is, quite frankly, petty whinging. I suggest you choose another hill to fight for, because you'll surely die fighting a losing cause on this one.
