On a serious note, there are many PAX who, while not registered disabled, are unable to stand for anything like 30 minutes.

In terms of pax able to stand, MAN runs a scheme that anyone who needs assistance can apply for a special lanyard to help them through the various stages of the airport, including wheelchair/walking assistance as well as using the assistance lane in security.

The only proper aviation security is that carried out by the Israelis, a lot of the rest is reassurance to the gullible..Meanwhile has anyone any news of developments etc at Manchester?

And to answer the question about staffing versus passengers, the forecasts didn't envisage such huge growth in the face of Brexit and such, even the MAN TP forecast had us at 30m in 2020-2022 period, but looks like we may hit that next year at this rate, so, one could say yes, pax demand has outstripped staffing for a short while.
Not to drag it on but security is an operational issue and MAN would of been aware about capacity plans for this summer for quiet some time. If there are an extra 10-15,000 passengers passing through terminals per day then resources have to be examined. It's not hard to recruit seasonal staff and long queues will damage retail revenue for an airport as people will be going straight to gates.

I do agree it would be irresponsible for MAN to make any rash decisions in regard to TP until maybe 2020 until any potential fallout is clear.

Message from your overstretched airport this morning:

Due to demand our car parks are only available for pre-booked passengers today. Please use alternative transportation if you have not pre-booked.

I was passing through T1 security yesterday and have to comment. I went through Fastrack, loaded all my gear into the trays and moved towards the body scanner. Nobody in front or behind me “Wait there please sir” was the order. 5 minutes later I was still standing waiting to be waved forward so asked if I could proceed. The answer was priceless “No sir, there must always be one person in the queue”. So I stood there, hands in pockets until another passenger arrived and then the whole charade started again for the next guy.

So does the last pax at night have to stand all night until the first to arrive in the morning joins the queue?

.....if this is true, it's an interesting (and increasingly common) example of someone following a rule without any appreciation for the reason or rationale. Does anyone know what that might be?

Sounds like someone has mis heard the regs.

No more than one person in the queue more like.
You really can't make this stuff up.

I was speechless but I just stood there nodding my head in compliance…there’s no pointing in arguing. I’ve encountered bad experiences in airports across the world but Manchester is consistently awful arriving and departing. It reminds me of Riyadh.

Absolute chaos around the airport road systems today, presumably due to the fact that all the car parks are full and there's no "on the day" parking options

Subsequently the entrances to all short stay car parks are closed leading to mass confusion from taxi drivers and people picking up friends/family etc.

What is this airport coming to

At first reading I was surprised this has happened on a Wednesday, but I suppose it's been a build-up from weekend. It's hard to see how it's going to be any better tomorrow. Are any car parks closed i.e. not available, for a reason other than being full?

I wonder if there is a backlog in car parking from customers who are delayed on Thomas Cook flights. I believe there are still 2 A330 out of sync in Boston and Punta Cana at the least.

I suppose the situation where they closed staff west/T2 long stay and also took over Jet Parks plus as well as some of the T2 militia storey/T2 long stay for staff parking doesn't help.

Shows how much work needs to be done to make public transport an alternative, as it must be an option for some?

I think the problem is purely down to the down-sizing and de-commissioning of current carparks.

MAG also won't allow staff to park in staff car parks when they go on holiday anymore.

No airport has infinite capacity for car parking but what they do have is a mechanism to monitor the "available capacity" and alert the public accordingly.

The only measure by which the public were alerted on thus occasion appears to be a single twitter post ?

I'm not local but we're there no warnings in local media TV BBC etc ?

Who on earth is monitoring twitter if they are driving to the airport !
